It’s not easy to focus on the football given how poor it is. Bowyer achieved the impossible I feel given how he got us up under RD and the team he assembled. I’ve got no way of knowing if Bowyer’s budget was better than BG’s, I suspect it is.
The advantage Bowyer had I guess is that RD had taken a complete back step re: running the club, he was literally looking to sell. TS is looking for ‘investment’ or an unreasonably high price for a club without owning anything of value. We’ve got another lunatic owner
Apart from the budget, Bowyer had other things going for him being an England International and former player for a start. An aggressive midfielder who left everything out on the pitch. Yes he had baggage from his youth and his man management skills left a lot to be desired but he was an attractive proposition for signings like Cullen and Bielik and their clubs.
He also had a relatively free hand from the Douchbag as you say. In the end he was the master of his own destiny but I know who I’d have rather have played under out of him or the current incumbent.
Be that as it may, Garner has been sold a pup and we now have an owner to whom I shall always be grateful for saving our club but who thinks he knows best and is just not football savvy. Please, please can the next one off the rank take us back to where we belong as a well run, at least Championship side before I leave this place for another world (no immediate plans on that front by the way😉).
IF I had a spare £50m odd to spunk on a football club, I'd
look for a grass roots club that owned some sort of infrastructure like it's
own ground and build that up. With the right investment and not as
many overheads / pre-existing debt, reckon you could really concentrate in
putting the dough in the right places.
Also think you could nick fans disenfranchised with
"modern" football and maybe look at building (and filling) a ground with the help
of some sort of sponsorship scheme. The amount of people I know that now go to Welling, Bromley, Dartford, Ebbsfleet etc. think there's definitely scope there
Reckon you'd need something like a 10 year plan in place to actually get anywhere on the football map but, although it pains me to say it, most existing clubs that you could take over with that kind of investment are in such a complicated mess, most of your money would be eaten up by debts etc, so get the feeling it would be a better bet to start virtually from scratch

Oh my days! Can you imagine? The prospect of a New Seekers / Heavy Metal mash up would have me heading for the hills, not the Valley.
I'm atca stage now where I feel the most less interested in the club than I have in over 40 years. I'm grateful to TS as he without doubt got us out of the clutches of the dark side but unfortunately the initial hope has now completely drained. We are not going anywhere other than a downward spiral and I dont just mean on the pitch. We are slowly being taken apart in a vain attempt to break even and the values that this club has been built on are being eroded. Nobody real is EVER going to invest in the club all the while TS is following his current course. I ignored his eccentricity and egocentric antics for a while and preferred to wait and see how things developed. The best thing he can do now for both parties is cut his losses if there are any serious parties interested in buying the club. Thank you Thomas but time to go mate

The budget we have if utilised by a well run club should be enough to get us out of this division but we’re drifting. Personally I think Garner is a good coach but I think he’s plying his trade in a division too low. I’m not sure mostly average third tier footballers either have the consistent ability and football brains to make best of what Garner wants. We won’t be spending in January and at best we’ll see a couple loans in and maybe one or two out. Just my opinion but I think that next season will be Garners last unless by some miracle we get promoted. I’m sure he’ll want out and will find either another managers job or my guess is a return to coaching first team in the Premiership.

That is not a way to galvanise a squad affected by injury. He is not our biggest problem and I think is an average coach but that's about it.
If you have bad results the manager is always going to get blamed. But with such an unbalanced squad and so many injuries, plus Stockley, I'm not sure what else I expect BG to do.
For me the biggest issue is the 'legacy players' brought in by an appalling recruitment strategy.
According to Cawley, JJ described our squad as having "discipline and professionalism" problems. Garner has said the same.
We also know most of these players are on long-term contracts, with wages that mean we can't get rid of them and bring better characters/players in, and ones who are better suited to this system.
For me, that is:
a) The recruitment teams fault, for failing to properly assess the personality and playing qualities of the players.
And b) The players faults for being unprofessional, which is the minimum we should expect as Charlton fans. If you're not going to be good enough for a promotion challenge, at least be hardworking. These are neither.
None of that is Garner's fault. You look at the people he has been allowed to bring in, someone like Egbo, who is up for every game, and you know the kind of player BG wants.

I think his credentials are from before he took the role of number 1 at Bristol Rovers. Even then what he achieved turned the playing side around but probably he wasn’t given enough time. Certainly his football is easy on the eye and a long way from a lot of teams in league one who play not particularly attractive football. I just think he’s trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear and failing. Easy to blame the manager but frankly our squad is bang average third tier. What we’re seeing are bang average performances and an occasional sparkle. I’m convinced he’ll ho on to bigger and better things after his time at Charlton is up. Our recruitment is also bloody awful.

In private he must know he's on the road to nowhere here losing money funding the Club's operations. I'm not sure that depriving the Club of income and forcing his hand to sell, if that's what your suggesting, is in our best interests though.
It would definitely reduce the EFL budget for player wages, which might be irrelevant if he's not going to strengthen there in January, but it would be inherited by whoever follows him into the ownership hot seat. I appreciate that it may not be by a huge amount, but it could be harmful until attendances recover over time.
If the effect of fan power is really to be measured by how much money we can make the Owner(Club) lose, I find that sad, but I suppose there's an argument to say the signalling of such action wouldn't influence the thinking of potential new owners, or would actually have a positive impact on them, so I'll keep on open mind.
I'd prefer to see a full Valley uniting to voice discontent, but I doubt that'll ever happen, unless we draw Man U at home in the Cup and beat Stockport first of course. Oh, and if the AC stand is opened up for it!
