That interview doesnt fill me with confidence.

How have we "rebounded"? We are getting worse, not better.
He sounds defeated. Now having to change his formation and perform open heart surgery. Doesn't fill me with confidence. He should just tell Sandgaard where to stick it & walk. No good will come of this I tell you.

I feel like Brownie is anything but a Charlton supporter. Constantly says how disappointing our opponents are, never talks up our good stuff anymore (it's limited I know.)
    He's been "Oohaah'd".
I actually had a conversation and beer with him last season and said how fucking shockingly shit we are and that this is by far the worst footballing period in our history , during the time it’s probably one of the best for the scum and palace …..
so the truth has probably hit home with him and he can’t pretend it’s not utter shit anymore !!
  • Our lack of threat from set pieces is seriously holding us back as well

I said weeks ago that Garner was not up to this job.

Real problem is the useless owner and until that changes for the better, we will suffer.

No, the real problem is the useless players.

Garner is doing the best he can with a crap bunch of players.

    This I agree with.

To be honest, I’ve watched every match this season and I’m not sure if I could tell if Garner’s up to it or not. With this squad Alf bloody Ramsey would struggle.
I still think it’s too early for the axe to fall, but this squad is better than 18th. It’s not great, but it’s probably the 10th-12th best squad in the league so Garner is underperforming at the moment
Just looking at the starting 11 on Saturday, while they're not good enough for where we want to be, which is top 6 with a chance of the automatics, they're easily good enough to be competitive in L1, and above the likes of Exeter, Fleetwood, Cambridge etc

At the moment the team isn't one thing or another, as shown by the chopping and changing in formations and personnel.
  • I think Garner is trying to find something. We have to give him a few games to achieve what he wants to achieve. What disapointed me was our lack of width given the players we had on the pitch. JRS doesn't seem to know how he is supposed to be playing in the formation and Garner needs to fine tune that. Defensively we were better although not perfect. Lincoln played deep but didn't have the pace to hurt us, but I think they have their issues that not all clubs we play will have.
  • Sounds like a man who thinks his time is limited.

Of course, we go 4-4-2 and immediately DJ, one of only a few semi-credible candidates for playing up front, is injured for a few weeks. There was nobody to replace Stockley or Leaburn. Aneke needs to come back now, and if he doesn't then it has to be Kanu.

As for our wingers, I think I hate all of them. I've turned into Bowyer ffs

Nothing has been forced on Garner, a patient passing from the back style is what he wants to play, it's not as if he secretly would rather play direct football or counter attack football.

Indeed my concern is that you'd expect us to be playing this style better by now, two months into the season, when we're actually going backwards.
Even worse than that he's ditched his favoured formation & gone 442. And from the highlights (very limited viewing I admit) all Woolacott's clearances were big punts downfield for out front 2 to fight for. Not what was being played up until recently.
Good, I'm sick to death of the sidewards, forwards, backwards, sidewards, backwards, sidewards, forwards, give the ball to the opposition and they score tactics.

We have the majority possession and one of the best XG - SO WHAT IT MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Just win some games for the love of God/someone/something/him/her/she/they/them.
But they’re not tactics, they’re just a sign that your players aren’t all that good.
But your final sentence is a good call. Perhaps you should write to Garner and suggest it?

PS This is all very déja vu.
  • An off the boil and uninterested CBT is the last thing we need. Where has this come from as he's always been really motivated?

Wonder if it's an outcome of Stockley's moaning and stick at how he plays.

I’m sure he’s desperate to do well (he’ll be out of work otherwise), so something’s not right.

I must admit, I prefer wing backs to wingers in the modern game. But Garner has to maximise what he has got. I think the stakes are pretty high for him career wise so he needs a bit of patience from us.
  • Charlie Kirk won't try to take his man on, had at least three one on ones Sat

Garner now has fewer points per game than when he was sacked at Bristol Rovers after 11 matches in 2020/21 - 13 from 12, as against 12 from 11. The PPG record was identical before Saturday.

Swindon took 20 from their first 12 matches in League Two last season.
  • Big fan of Garner as I've said many times, but lose on Tuesday & I think he's in trouble.

Personally I don't think he's the problem though
Lose Tuesday and by the time we kick off against Portsmouth next Monday we could be in the bottom 4
Lose Tuesday and the covered end will be singing Garner off with "...getting sacked in the morning"
Skintgaard's current passion for penny pinching may stay his hand, for a while at least.  I'm not sure what wins between Skintgaard's rampant, fragile ego and his parsimony.

As for being part of the problem, Garner certainly is.  He's stuck far too long with one plan for which he's never had the personnel and his constant drivel about how 'we deserve to be further up the table, if this had gone, if that had happened..."  is fatuous and rapidly eroding any credibility.

I wouldn't advocate sacking Garner unless and until a credible alternative is lined up.
To keep any semblance of adequacy Garner has to be far more pragmatic, play to mitigate our (myriad, serious) weaknesses and when a tosser puts in a non-performance, like CBT on Saturday, hook him straight away, there's 5 subs so use them, there's no space for shirkers or wankers.  Slagging him off afterwards in interviews gets nobody anywhere.

These players are better than 18th though. Blame should be shared imo
  • Re the Garner appointment: Pay Peanuts you get Monkeys!
If you want Champagne you pay Champagne prices!
  • My thoughts on Lincoln:

    The Cathedral was nice
William IV pub had good food and Madri
We are getting relegated along with them if we continue to play like this.

  • We need to play a more balanced side and JFC will give us that, cant understand why he isn't in the team.  Egbo is the only player to come out with any credit from Saturday and thats just because he was the only one brave enough to come over and sign some autographs and shake some hands at the end

We can't play with one up top as we have no striker good enough to play that role. We can't play two up using wingbacks as we've looked totally lost with 3 at the back. We can't play two up top in diamond because our wide players, as frustrating as they are, are the only ones that resemble any sort of threat. So that leaves a traditional 4-4-2 where there's the risk of being overrun in the middle. I don't see he's had much choice but to try it when the other options haven't worked.
I don't blame Garner, he's not been backed and the players he has aren't really suited to any formation. Not a lot he can do with that.
  • Garner is getting away with murder. Its poor players, poor manager and a very poor owner.

All shit and all to blame.
  • Sangaard Jnr should be given a go...

I mean why not, we're fucked anyway?

  • A system?  I thought he had?

A shit system that fits a shit squad!
