Starting to get vibes that this isn’t an ‘new ownership’ rally, but a ‘put money in the transfer budget’ one…
would only be Charlton after all
I genuinely hope you are incorrect @sammy391
If this is a rouse for TS benefit, I think the natives might well turn very nasty.
I'm sure PV wouldn't sign up to such a 'scam', at least I fucking hope not!!

Better than having Brighton using turnstiles in Harvey Gardens. Nothing like this happens without a police decision.

There is no significant money in this. After VAT and concessions, Charlton will do well to make a fiver per Brighton fan at 45% revenue split.

That said I don’t see the merit of locking them out.

Would they be so generous to us?
I’m trying to work out if we were flying high in the Prem and a cruddy third tier Brighton offered us 6-7k just before Christmas after our heroes returned from World Cup duty would we take em …
    think we’d muster 4.5k at a push
  • I think Varney is simply trying to encourage a decent crowd size for a game against a PL team.
  • The Brighton game has the unbelievable potential to be either a new low point where we are humiliated both on the pitch and in the stands or bizarrely a high point where if Peter Varney is correct,  we have a new dawn on the cards.
Well this is Charlton, so I think I can have a decent go at predicting which it will be.

Perhaps last nights result has put a negative spin on my views this morning (would be hard not to!) but just seems another fade dawn!

Varney could well know money is needed for January, you’d have to be Thomas Sandgaard to not see that, so perhaps knows the money from the game would put money in the coffer

There's definitely something behind what he said.

I don't think he would just say that simply for the purpose of getting more fans in.

It's a bit of both. A good atmosphere and to hopefully encourage a new deal.

99% sure there is some interest. Sandgaard doesn't want to own the club anymore.

His own son got moaned at on a train, he's losing money and shooting himself in the foot. His wife has probably told him enough is enough and should give it up.

Owning a football club is not fun. If he sells us soon and holds his hands up, that would be dignified and at least showing some self respect and also care for the club in itself.

We only live once and this shouldn't be a battle or stubborn whinge fest from owners etc

No way Varney has tweeted it because of that.

20k fans paying 15 quid is 300k (and that's at adult prices). Once we've paid Brighton their share and deducted the costs from hosting the game there will probably be less than 100k left.

I'm sure Airman could give more accurate figures, but this isn't a game that's going to make us rich. It's not Man U away in front of 75k fans and live on sky.
He said earlier £5 per person. £100k split two ways based on a 20k crowd

    Read it again
  • Andrew Barclay currently going on a Hunter Biden laptop conspiracy rant on Twitter. Let’s hope he’s not involved this time round.
Would you rather Chinese than Barclay?

Who gives a shit about letting Brighton fans come to the game? Some people want to watch a game....let them watch it. Never bothered me when Chelsea or Watford (in the cup) brought 1000s of fans....scattered all over the East Terrace. All added to the atmosphere. Remember that....atmosphere? It used to be a thing at football.
I suppose it's The Valley and not Leicester at Upton Park  - that was a great atmosphere and we won.
  • I have it on good authority that Roland won't do business with Barclay.
So I can't see him buying the club from Sandgaard if he can't get his hands on the valley
  • Anyone looking to invest might have looked at attendances and thought we’re quite well supported. 12k plus v. Cheltenham for example. The actual attendance was more like 7,000 at a guess, which shows how support has drifted away as results have worsened.
The potential IS there, however, as the tickets sold figures show.
New owners, and a good summer window, could set things rolling again.

100% this is not the case. Bizarre to think it would be.

    Peter Varney is a businessman....

But he has charltons best interests at heart

    Simple as that

    As he ???

Seems like that’s exactly what happened with Thomas Sandgaard.

The only thing Sandgaard looks at is a mirror.
While posing with his guitar and telling himself how wonderful he is.
  • On reflection, the one word that sums up last night & my mood this dull, dreary Saturday morning is FLAT.

That performance as a whole was severely lacking in excitement with not one piece of action bringing the home fans to their feet, apart from the disallowed goal.

Sadly, this is becoming a regular feature of our play & one which is likely to deter some of the most committed fans from occupying their seats as winter sets in

    Our support is ailing.

    Our club is dying.

And with Sandgaard now attending fewer matches, the opportunities to resurrect that old, familiar chant, "politely" asking an owner to sling his hook, are few & far between.

Would a call for pertinent banners to accompany such chants help to reinforce the Christmas Wish, top of the faithful's list ? Perhaps the Mega Ego would be further punctured and ideally, press coverage ( however minimal) would " put out there" that once again, Charlton fans are revolting....

Just a somewhat pathetic idea, I'm guessing, that will elicit groans of "FFS!" from most but with the January window about to creak open, and with optimism daring to show its face following PV's enigmatic call to arms ( or should I say bums ?) perhaps something should be considered for the Bristol Rovers match ....Surely a visual & vocal show of our feelings at this time would indicate that it's time to smell the cawfee, TS, & your time's up ? Muttering under our breath & booing the players isn't going to cut the mustard, as Delia might say.

Finally, time is running out at a rate of knots for the celebration that @Arsenetatters & I had promised would greet a new, PV supported owner. The BIG cake would now cost double its original estimate and sadly, jumping is now off the agenda as far as Fanny is concerned. Sad but true.

The only positive to take from last night's performance was the inclusion of 2 Young Guns in the starting line up and the manner in which they conducted themselves on the hallowed turf. We need to hold on to the likes of  Zach & Lucas - something I fear may not be the case if TS remains in situ.

The "onwards & upwards" mantra is seriously in danger of being mothballed.
To what end though? I rather assume TS will sell if a serious bidder emerges. Any club is always for sale if someone with more cash comes along.

Is there really any serious suggestion he will not sell and is actively blocking it when he is losing money?

Isn’t what we really need is for the supposed interested parties to come forward and maybe break cover? We aren’t exactly talking about a huge corporate takeover that is guided by stock exchange rules etc.

if there is serous intent perhaps it’s more the RD side of negotiations that is  the biggest hurdle.

I see it as completely the opposite. I think RD will negotiate but it’s Sandgaard thats still unable to see the reality of his situation and thinks he has more to sell than what he has.

    I have zero inside knowledge.

But logic tells me TS is losing money currently and no longer enjoys any adulation from being an owner. He needs out.

On that basis I’d be surprised if he is being unreasonable. Clearly he might be negotiating but can’t see that he has much to haggle with and can protect his wealth better via a swift exit. Should that even be a genuine option.

I don’t have inside info either but there are several posters that do have some connections that have hinted at TS being the stumbling block rather than RD. Notably Airman Brown and Dubai. Perhaps they might want to clarify if they can.
