If a potential new owner is swayed by a large crowd against Brighton then it would suggest they are pretty clueless - getting another owner with no real knowledge or interest in football is not what we need.
However you dress it up we're a mediocre L1 side with a declining fan base.
If it is a possible buyer with no football knowledge it is not necessary a problem if they have business acumen. Unlike TS they may well have the common sense to know you bring in the appropriate knowledge to run the business.
Unfortunately anyone with common sense and business acumen wouldn't touch a third division football club with the proverbial bargepole.
Perhaps the potential investor has been sold a pipe dream and will get a shock when he turns up and the ground isn't packed full with revenue flying in.
Nice positive approach
Hard to be positive with the absolute shit run of owners we've had since 2014. It'd be nice if something comes from this but I'm not getting my hopes up...
Sandgaard has undoubtedly made mistakes but putting him in the same bracket as the spivs, Roland, and the crooks who followed is a mite unfair.
Not going, wont be going again until there is real positive change.
Varney is out of touch if he thinks one game will sway a deal.
Is he getting Roland on board to make sure he does not kill any “deal” with stupid pricing demands for the Valley?
Deals are done and then announced and not by getting fans to waste our well earned cash on the TS shit show on some half promise by a long gone official of a long gone CAFC.
If TS walks away, we will go into administration and then a buyer might come in, but in that event, RD will kill any deal because he will want, let’s say, £75m for the Valley and Sparrows.

Needs patient investment as well - no chance of that into a club like ours. Brand is being reduced to junk status
Can this not have the opposite effect then? At a guess , I should think 95% of people on Charlton life have some sort of idea who Peter Varney is. Away from here though how many people know who PV is? If this crowd isn't as big as his hoping does it have a negative effect? The biggest selling point surely has to be that after years and years of all this sh!t we still have 9000 fans willing to part with their cash on season tickets
I would think the vast majority of fans know who he is.

How can anyone still be typing these words and hitting post comment 15 pages in. That arguement has been done to death.

roland sold standard liege a bigger club than charlton for £25m who have a stadium exactly the size of ours. I think roland wants see us suffer, have the last laugh. the overvaluation makes no sense
I envisage the negotiations going something like this:
Buyer: I'm willing to offer £x
TS: I won't accept any less than £x+y
Buyer: I'll wait...
That’s how I see it. The more time TS owns us, the more money he loses, the more fans get on his back and with both of those factors the more desperate he becomes to sell. Unless we are close to the play offs there isn’t much point a new owner coming in now and I think by the time we get to January we will be too far off and if they are smart they will wait till the summer when TS is more desperate
The big problem has been aluded to by Airman. For a sale you need a willing seller. I’m not at all sure that TS is at this point overly inclined to do so. I’m thinking he’s absurdly clinging to the notion that things will come good and he’ll get his money back. Neither are going to happen. I do think it’s only a matter of time before the penny drops but by then the interested parties we currently have might have lost interest and moved on. I definitely think he’ll sell but the timescale could be anything.
IF the is a potential owner in the background that has started negotiations ofcourse TS will start off with a high figure to try and recoup his investment. The trouble is he has little to actually sell that is worth anything. Imagine trying to sell any business that loses millions a year ? If you dont have substantial equity to offset the losses (which we dont) it's worth whatever the smoke and mirrors man can pitch the dream for. In any normal sense of the word the club is insolvent (as are most) and worth zero. Eventually TS will realise he cant keep burning money and bail out whichever way he can but unless some very wealthy owner steps up it is going to be a couple of years of pain ahead I think. Such a shame after how he got rid of the crooks that he didnt have the sense to make better decisions early doors as things could have been very different had money been better spent. He is like alot of self made men they start to think that they know best in everything they do and turn into egocentric personalities. I just hope he isnt that mad to get rid of BG and put Martin in 😳
From what I've heard, he's running out of money NOW, and fast....
" A couple of years of pain " is a highly unlikely timescale.
Mmmmm…….Zynex shares have evidently recovered dramatically to almost pre Covid level…..so I have been told anyway. Perhaps someone with the ability to check that out can confirm?
Correct, now at $13.80, making TS existing holding worth a bit more than $200m. I don’t think he’ll be going bankrupt anytime soon.
That was merely a short-term blip and not something any sensible person would take into account when calculating their worth. And the trend for the stock still seems to be upwards. (More so when the recent special stock dividend - one new share for each ten held- is taken into account.)
The 10c special cash dividend earlier this year would have put an extra $1mn + into his pocket.
He is still rich by normal standards. Might be having issues with liquid assets though.

Yes of course it goes with out say, I would agree with you, but if there is another owner to come in you would hope they are half sensible to appoint experienced football people to run the show.
what a mug... Yeah i'll be going. ffs. can't stand Charlton but i (probably the only Charlton fan who does) hate Brighton. Lived there for a few years and couldn't stand the place or the up their own arses people.

As I said, its a shit show.
It’s a cup game, it’s £15, it’s against prem opposition. Why wouldn’t you go ? Can’t believe Charlton have so many glory boy fans, bet you’d go if we get to the final …

It's not just about the ticket pricing though. Our fans are spread out and a cold wednesday night with an hour or two trip home doesn't appeal to many.
Throw in a ground half full with away fans and our lot playing the way they are i can understand why some can't be arsed.
Just received an email from the club, tickets apparently selling fast...🤷♂️...
Tickets
are available to purchase in the Covered End Lower and Upper as well as
the West Stand Lower and the East Stand. Please note, season
ticket holders in the Alan Curbishley Stand, who have already purchased
tickets elsewhere in the stadium can look to move to back to their season
ticket seat in the East Stand by emailing tickets@cafc.co.uk, however,
their place is no longer guaranteed..

I'm not all that keen either. The 7-0 defeat in 83 still hurts. That was some shameful shit that afternoon....5-0 down at HT.

Did they also announce that Garner has left the building.....?
Something is def/maybe happening with all this Chinese whisper stuff,.. no smoke without fire as they say, and now this possible breaking news/rumour about Garner leaving, this is just so Charlton..
Yes Ray...the 5-3 was wonderful! A young Martin Keown played up front and scored for Brighton but we turned it on. Lovely Robert Lee near post header from a typical John Humphrey pinpoint cross, was my fave. Curbishley with a couple of accurate strikes too. Our last two goals on 87 and 90. Classic away win!
Perhaps the potential investor has been sold a pipe dream and will get a shock when he turns up and the ground isn't packed full with revenue flying in.

Agreed he will always hold a special place in Charlton history for saving the club when everyone else like Varney Barclay run a mile .. without him there would be no CAFC to moan about

been thinking a bit about this... just to come at this from another angle - is it possible that TS is valuing our league cup run (perhaps even the FA cup one as well) at some kind of premium? Like it could be a sticking point if we somehow win it there would be value in a QF potential tie against a big club..? Could a win against Brighton and a favourable draw (either way, big team, or potential "easier draw" to get us to a semi) give TS the value he is looking for? Maybe Varney is coming from the POV that big support geeing the team up to a big performance could be enough to get the delusion fool out??
Maybe potential new owners could have said "if you make it through we will give you X over what we are offering" and that is seen in TS's eyes as enough to bail out?
@Airman Brown interested in your opinion on this? How much potentially could a QF away to man u or newcastle on sky be worth potentially to TS and do you think it could make some kind of difference or am I chatting out of my arse as usual?
I don’t think the potential rewards of the EFL Cup are material to a sale of the club.
actually the more i think about it, are you sure that is the case for the sale of a club in regards to TS who doesn't have the stadium or training ground? isn't our membership in the league, this particular cup run, and player valuations all he has?
I’m not sure what you think we are going to make from a run in this competition. Even if we beat Brighton, we don’t know what the fifth round draw might be and it’s unlikely the club would make £1m extra if it got to Wembley, which is obviously not very probable.
The prize for winning it is £100k, half that as losing finalists. Nothing for losing semi-finalists.
TS would lose £1m in the time it takes to get there. He might recoup something in the January transfer market, and that’s potentially much more controllable. Personally I think it’s a game of chicken now, as far as he’s concerned, but he doesn’t have much of a hand.
so you are saying an away QF draw (televised) at man u or newcastle is not worth much? That was my initial question btw - i'm not talking about prize money.
It’s not likely to be worth £1m -or actually happen.
