This has to be the worst team in our history. It's certainly the worst i've ever seen - easily.

Unless we sign three or four defenders and a couple of strikers we are going down and i hate to say it but Steve Gallen has to be questioned . I know he's hands are tied as regards money but the players he has brought in in the last three years have been awful.  Who in their right mind suggested Lavell and O'Connell were good enough to play league one football?

Our owner has to appoint a good manager this week before it's too late.

On the plus side, I know a sneaky next-to-the-ground parking area when we visit Hampton & Richmond in 2024-25
  • I hope Hayes does not tell us we were unlucky! I would rather him tell TS this is not for me, please get a replacement as the current team will be relegated if i continue! No but the inept personnel we have will keep nicking a living, god this club it is rotten right through can it get any worse! Good luck to leaburn, would be so wrong for him to stay in January. Deserves better, the rest get start collecting their JSA
  • Simply don’t ever want to see Innis in our shirt ever again. Get rid.
  • Without a takeover and serious investment, we’ll be playing league 2 football next season without a doubt. Sick of it

Was given pelters on here weeks ago, saying innis was a total donkey and a liability every game. It’s true!

He shouldn’t be anywhere near our team, and ideally will be released come summer!

    Hayes has no answers...

Innis cost us the game. Tackled for the first and a crap clearance for the second. Whole shape fell apart after they scored and going three at the back made us look very vulnerable. How Payne stayed on the whole game I just don't know. CBT looked ill to me, or not bothered?

Wednesday will be Hayes last game in charge hopefully.
I honestly don't think it matters who is in charge at the moment.
The players are simply not good enough

Is there anyone that still doesn't think our defence is the problem?

Sandgaard needs to get a proper manager in and he needs to do it before we play Peterborough following what will surely be an absolute humiliation against Brighton.
Funny to think that when we drew Brighton it felt like a winnable game, especially when they were going to have a month off.

    A week’s a long time in football..
Anyone who ever thought Brighton was winnable needs their head tested
  • We're way beyond the stage of wanting a manager to play attractive, Pep style passing football.

We need a Warnock or Pulis type to stop us getting relegated, by cutting out the defensive howlers. Inniss and Lavelle can't play passing football, when pressed they lose the ball in terrible areas, and everyone knows it.

40/1 to go down worth a score all day long
I had a little accumulator win the other week, tempted to pile it all on £300....... £12k here we come  :D
  • You're right Dazzler, we're definitely missing O'Connell at the back (even if you did post on the wrong thread) - Its depressing though how our squad is suddenly so bloody thin on the ground the moment one, or two players are absent... We showed our lack of balance when Sessegnon was out between Sept / Oct, and showed our potential when everyone was back.

Its difficult because technically we're only allowed a team of 20-players, so any form of injury crisis and a team can be decimated like what we're seeing at the moment - In which case, it makes renewing the contracts of injury hit players like Inniss even more ridiculous

How is Clare not getting some of the blame for the first, he had a chance to go long and passes it to 'Calamity Jane'. It should never have got anywhere near that clown.

I was confused as to why CB was our top priority going into deadline day instead of LB, where I felt we lacked cover, or CF, where we lacked quality.

I understand now. It's not that we needed CB cover, we have a lot of CBs on the books. It's that we needed CB quality, ie someone in addition to O'Connell who can pass to a teammate and not panic with the ball at his feet.

We didn't get that. O'Connell got injured, and despite Mitchell making great strides, here we are.

For as bad as Inniss was second half, I cannot think of one play Lavelle has made this season. Absolutely nothing. I constantly forget he's on the field. And while today isn't his fault, it's a very damming indictment of a CB who allegedly cost 200k.

Other than that, first half was really good, we pressed and we created chances. We tired after 30 minutes. Then in the second half we sat off them. We switched formation and looked confused, and then made two individual mistakes and lossed the game with a whimper.

I do think these players are better than their league position. But individual mistakes kill this team. Some of that is coaching, particularly not getting the players to play cohesively and cover for each other. Some of it is the fact that we have League One players, and they play in League One for a reason.

I really don't know where we go from here. A new head coach is obviously needed. No offense to Hayes and Pearce, but tactically, the last two games have been a shambles at times. The subs today were baffling.

If it was your money, would you invest heavily in this squad in January? TS invested heavily in January last season which made it so that we went from mid table at Christmas to mid table in May.

I don't believe the whole players are stealing a living thing, I just think some of them are not that good, and that as a whole, it's not a cohesively put together squad. Fraser, Stockley, Aneke, CBT, JRS, Dobbo, Sess, Clare, JFC, Payne, and Kirk all have been good L1 players in the past. Maybe not top two, but definitely in and around the playoffs. I think Leaburn, O'Connell, and Jojo have all shown they can play at this level. The problem is there just isn't the quality and consistency around them to enable them to play their best football. And if we're serious about sustained, long term success, that will probably take another 2-3 windows of clearing out deadwood and bringing in good players which will require big money, plus improving the players we currently have, and ideally developing the likes of Deji, Mitchell, Henry, and Leaburn.

This is a multi year project as it stands. And we have to do all of that while hoping we don't get relegated or get our best young players knicked.

I cannot impress this upon some of you enough: who do you think is going to take over this team and ckub and make these changes? The era of cheap money via low interest rates is over. People will be looking for more assured investments, and the only assurance in football is that you will lose money.

    It's all very bleak.

You look at this league table and the clubs all around us and youre gut reaction is how much better we are than any of them and how we don't deserve to be down there with them.

The reality kicks in and you realise that's exactly where we deserve to be at the moment.  Thanks Thomas.

I am so disillusioned I can think of little to say.

Ps Don't forget to get your half year season tickets which are still on sale.
    Will do, thanks.
  • How many times are we going to put a new man in charge and they are unaware and have to learn the hard way (hard particularly on paying Addicks fans) that:
    • STOCKLEY CANNOT PLAY AS A LONE TARGET MAN
    • OUR SQUAD OF PLAYERS IS NOT GOOD OR INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO PLAY ANYTHING OTHER THAN 4-4-2
And, at the earliest opportunity can we please show Clare, Lavelle, Inniss, Fraser, Stockley and Kirk the exit?

He's every bit as dellusional as sodding Sandgaard if he thinks it will be enjoyable. The only uncertain thing about Wednesday is if the Charlton support reaches 5000.

In Innis we have found another player who cannot play for more than 40mins.
May be we should start a 40min competition we would do well.

O'Connell is vocal, strong, hardworking, can pass...

    Inniss is better alongside him.

Lavelle is quiet, weak, slow to react, can't pass.

Inniss is forced to play on the wrong side and loses composure next to him.

If we're going to start winning, a spending spree is 100% required.

We need a CB, a RB, a CM, a LM, a RM, a CF - all need to be first choice players.

Have people forgotten how bad O'Connell was as well ?. Get rid of Innis , Levell and O'Connoll . None can play with the ball at their feet and that's disgraceful for professional footballers.

Further unimpressed by Hayes after he decided to play the Clownshoe Brothers in central defence. Lavelle is busted. I'm sure his parents like him or whatever but he's got nothing to offer this team as a professional footballer. Inniss can be ok at times but putting those two together is a good plan if you're writing a hit comedy but not so much if you're trying to win football matches. The outcome was decided when we started with that pairing. I'd rather have seen literally any other player named. Put Payne there, I don't care. Just not those two.
