Great night at a rocking Valley. Sandgaard bottles it and didn’t show up. No roadworks at all on the A2, M25 or M3 - which was by far the biggest surprise of the night.

    If Heineken made football evenings……..

    Defence outstanding tonight.

Aneke is just a walking disaster...

    Limping
  • What a game! We really, really needed a performance like that. Hopefully that will give the team the boost it needs to push on.

Fantastic atmosphere. The trains were packed, loads of people in Harvey Gardens, queues to get through the turnstiles - just like the good old days. I am so glad we actually did the business on the pitch for a change when we had a big crowd.

It was a a very defensive set up, but that was probably the right way to go. The whole team put in a huge effort. It took a lot of guts for Innis to turn around his awful performance at the weekend and produce that display, but last night there was little playing out from the back, and that suited Ryan.

Ash Maynard-Brewer had another fantastic game. He seems so confident for a young keeper.

I am not sure who I fancy in the quarter final, but a home game please - there is no way I can get to away games in January because of work pressure. Liverpool/City or Man U at the Valley would be a great night out, but any home draw would be great.

One of the standouts was that at full time I was so happy with how we took that game on, and thinking about the inevitable posts after the penalties where the word anyway pops up over and over as we look back on 'proud of the display in normal tim' etc etc. So it was great to win the penalty shoot out, albeit with a lot more drama than we wanted, and just be happy with everything.
Now make sure they get some rest as it would by typical us to roll over against Peterborough. Time to kick start the season.

Stayed up to watch the highlights once I got back - pleased with my levels of righteous outrage over their diving (twice) only to see that they would certainly have been pens had the ref had VAR. What a shame he didn’t. 😉

Brinksmanship, dedication and heart combined. Where have those players been the rest of the season? Hopefully they can carry on with that approach.
  • The performance was even more impressive when one takes into account that four U20s started and half a dozen of that line up had less than 100 League starts between them.

Aneke is clearly incapable of fulfilling any players contract - he is always unfit.

Time to cancel his contract ?
  • It was a really 'ugly' perfornance last night - spent most of the game defending yet showed a fantastic attitude. It reminded me of the Ali 'rope a dope' tactic.

Just need some league wins now.

Good shout - 100% for effort, but he is not in the same class of the likes of Kinsella or Reid.

But if we had 11 players who worked as hard, then we would be nearer the top of L1.
  • The best night i've had down the valley since the doncaster play off, atmosphere got better and better. Always quite liked Brighton but some of their play acting/diving and ref whinging was desperate and embarrassing. We got in their heads and the plan worked. Yes,we got away with a couple and the penalty shootout was laughable but fuck it, what a great night. Bloody football eh?!

I think it would be remiss not to thank Thomas sandgaard for making this possible.

That's what we need to do with away performances until we get out of this mess.......Dobbo brilliant, Innis and Sessingnon were great as well.....also a shout out to Chin who was outstanding and I have been one of his critics not that I think he isn't good enough but he's been thrown in the deep end, AMB had a great game
Chin playing on the right looks a lot more accomplished than when he’s played out of position at LB.
Thought he did very well as he seemed to be left exposed a number of times with one on one against their left winger
  • Big Sam , the new Bryan Hughes. Who would have thought it.
  • I told you.  That was Brighton's cup final.

Such unsporting conduct from Steele ahead of the Lavelle penalty by not getting back on his line for that last one ;) - Shame that Hayes had to go all the way over to the Brighton bench to shake hands with them

Just saw this stat on the Brighton forum for Kaoru Mitoma, who was up against Richard Chin in the second half:

0 out of 4 dribbles succeeded
0 out of 5 duels won
    possession lost 12 times

I’ve felt that Richard has looked out of place on occasions this season, but thought he was  superb last night.
Mitoma is literally just absolutely rapid. Woeful touch and no end product

More excited by that than much else football related for some time.

It is cyclical. The cycle is 50 years though. 1947 - we won the Cup. 1997/8 was the season we achieved promotion to the Premier League. So we are exactly half way through this cycle and only 25 years to wait!

Solly March is a Charlton legend. Not only his missed penalty today, but he also knocked Millwall out of the FA Cup a few years back.

Good morning fellow addicks. Well I'm still buzzing from last night! That's why we love the game, and our club. When we pull together, players, fans, coaching team, TS... na, kidding about him... we create quality evenings like last night.

Now the not so good parts I observed. Whoever runs the club on match days needs to carry out a robust review, and if they're happy, they need to be reviewed.

With ticket sales much much higher than the usual league games, surely provisions could of been planned around this, but it that didn't seem the case at all.

I didn't get to my seat till 10mins in. The queues outside the turnstiles was substantial, and the speed of getting through them extremely poor.  A lovely lass had to come and assist people getting through, once she showed up, things happened a lot smoother.

Closing the North East quadrant food and bar facility meant ridiculous queues at the 2 other CE upper venues. Staffing those outlets with just 3 staff, with only 2 able to serve was just dumb. I overheard so many fans say, I can't they can't be bothered waiting to get served, as they'll miss the 2nd half kick off. After missing the 1st 10 mins , I wasn't willing to miss anymore of the game, so went without. And I really wanted to try the onion bhaji burger!

As for the players, I loved the commitment, the desire, and although we lacked finesse and skill at times, we battled like absolute warriors.

Except one. I watched him even when he wasn't on the ball, the body language, his demeanor, all of it. I did this because I've been critical of him, and so I wanted to see, in the flesh, if I'd been harsh. I haven't been harsh enough. I was, and still am feckin livid.

I am referring to Jordan Stockley, out club captain,  and I cannot accept  that bullshit effort last night. He played for 20 + minutes, so there should of been loads of running, and hassling of their back line, but NOPE, he really couldn't be arsed.

Poor positioning in open play, when we had the ball.   Not willing to hit the channels when we stole back possession to give us a different outlet, he sat central, nothing stuck to him all evening except thier centre halves.

I don't give if he feels hard done by not starting, and then seeing A&E come in before him, he is meant to lead by example. His penalty miss summed up his night. Atrocious.
