It's so funny. After all the abysmal performances, a caretaker manager, an absolute bananas week off the pitch with total instability and then we only go and beat a really good Premier league team to reach our first QF in 9 years. What a crazy few days to be a Charlton fan.
Great night at a rocking Valley. Sandgaard bottles it and didn’t show up. No roadworks at all on the A2, M25 or M3 - which was by far the biggest surprise of the night.
What a game! We really, really needed a performance like that. Hopefully that will give the team the boost it needs to push on.
Fantastic atmosphere. The trains were packed, loads of people in Harvey Gardens, queues to get through the turnstiles - just like the good old days. I am so glad we actually did the business on the pitch for a change when we had a big crowd.
It was a a very defensive set up, but that was probably the right way to go. The whole team put in a huge effort. It took a lot of guts for Innis to turn around his awful performance at the weekend and produce that display, but last night there was little playing out from the back, and that suited Ryan.
Ash Maynard-Brewer had another fantastic game. He seems so confident for a young keeper.
I am not sure who I fancy in the quarter final, but a home game please - there is no way I can get to away games in January because of work pressure. Liverpool/City or Man U at the Valley would be a great night out, but any home draw would be great.
One of the standouts was that at full time I was so happy with how we took that game on, and thinking about the inevitable posts after the penalties where the word anyway pops up over and over as we look back on 'proud of the display in normal tim' etc etc. So it was great to win the penalty shoot out, albeit with a lot more drama than we wanted, and just be happy with everything. Now make sure they get some rest as it would by typical us to roll over against Peterborough. Time to kick start the season.
Stayed up to watch the highlights once I got back - pleased with my levels of righteous outrage over their diving (twice) only to see that they would certainly have been pens had the ref had VAR. What a shame he didn’t. 😉
Brinksmanship, dedication and heart combined. Where have those players been the rest of the season? Hopefully they can carry on with that approach.
I think George Dobson might be one of my favourite Charlton players ever. I’ve watched the leadership of Mark Kinsella, the goals of Darren Bent, the effortless class of Andy Reid, even the willingness of a loan player in Josh Cullen, but there’s something about Dobson that makes me love him. In a sea of shit he’s a shining light. Even to look at him he’s so unconventional, his slouched posture. But fuck me does that boy cover some ground, makes some awesome tackles. There’s a cliche that fans just wanna see something in their players that what they lack in talent (and he does have talent) they make up for in effort. This boy is that player.
The performance was even more impressive when one takes into account that four U20s started and half a dozen of that line up had less than 100 League starts between them.
It was a really 'ugly' perfornance last night - spent most of the game defending yet showed a fantastic attitude. It reminded me of the Ali 'rope a dope' tactic.

Good shout - 100% for effort, but he is not in the same class of the likes of Kinsella or Reid.
But if we had 11 players who worked as hard, then we would be nearer the top of L1.
The best night i've had down the valley since the doncaster play off, atmosphere got better and better. Always quite liked Brighton but some of their play acting/diving and ref whinging was desperate and embarrassing. We got in their heads and the plan worked. Yes,we got away with a couple and the penalty shootout was laughable but fuck it, what a great night. Bloody football eh?!
That's what we need to do with away performances until we get out of this mess.......Dobbo brilliant, Innis and Sessingnon were great as well.....also a shout out to Chin who was outstanding and I have been one of his critics not that I think he isn't good enough but he's been thrown in the deep end, AMB had a great game
Chin playing on the right looks a lot more accomplished than when he’s played out of position at LB.
Thought he did very well as he seemed to be left exposed a number of times with one on one against their left winger

Such unsporting conduct from Steele ahead of the Lavelle penalty by not getting back on his line for that last one - Shame that Hayes had to go all the way over to the Brighton bench to shake hands with them
There was a time when practically every game used to be like last night, or better, or not much worse.
FFS
It is cyclical. The cycle is 50 years though. 1947 - we won the Cup. 1997/8 was the season we achieved promotion to the Premier League. So we are exactly half way through this cycle and only 25 years to wait!

Time to cancel his contract ?
Just need some league wins now.

Was asked yesterday if I was going to the game
And then this morning
