Sounded like a well organised and disciplined performance.  I wonder if there is an argument for taking that approach in the league as well.  I know Brighton are a gulf in class to what we usually play, however, I think it’s obvious that overall, the team aren’t that good and are limited in their abilities.  Holden will have his own style, but if the team could replicate the organization and the discipline in the first instance, stop conceding silly goals and just focus on being hard to break down, keeping clean sheets, that could be something to build on.

Might not be that entertaining for us, but it has to be better than what we’ve served up this season.

Was struggling with my enthusiasm level before the game but now it’s soared right off the scale. What a great night and credit to every one of our players.

Great showing from everybody - AMB fills me with confidence - he seems to have it all - dobbo brilliant as usual, rak saki had his best game for months and tbf, stockley put himself about and showed the ability to be a good target man is still there - won more headers against a premier league defence in half hour the he has all this season

2 new strikers and a centre half in the window and we will fly up that table

I have to say, Innis could do worse than aim to model his game on Lewis Dunk. Each team needs one. Was impressed with his leadership and authority yesterday.

I really feel like there's such a huge psychological aspect to our performance levels - it's happened so many times where we have over performed as the "underdogs" and massively underperformed as "favourites"

My impression is this team just cant handle the pressure of being expected to win and that is what leads to these mistakes and errors in concentration that end up costing us games.

Its the first thing DH needs to get a grip on in my opinion.

I genuinely think 2 new strikers who know where the net is will solve most of our problems

There is no prize money in the league cup until you reach the semi's.

    Then it's:
    Losing semi finalists - 25k
    Losing finalist - 50k
    Winner - 100k

You can see why the big clubs don't really care.

Gate money we get 45% of whatever it is.

  • Wow - watched it in the pub, for once not with head-in-hands. Boy we rode our luck! But what a shift they lads put in, Chuks is made of paper though. Shame that he has such talent, but simply isn't cut out for the rigours of football.

Whether it was instructed or not, I had a lot of time for Ashley Maynard-Brewer taking a look at both of our centre halves and absolutely saying “absolutely not” and sending it long.

I didn’t agree with the sacking of Garner, however my biggest criticism of him was that he tried to convince the likes of Inniss and Lavelle that they were footballers rather than walking heading machines,

AMB didn’t buy into that shit and just got rid, it made a huge difference in the way the game was played, that deserves credit.
Yes and suddenly people can see why Inniss is rated. Just keep it simple for him...even against low grade league opposition at home and we will concede less/pick up points.
  • Contemplated not going last night, sick of it all, now we’re 3 wins away from Europe!

It is about having a style and footballing philosophy, but you have to adapt it to the personnel at your disposal. Also I know he gets stick on here but when Stockley came on last night we finally won the ball up front.

100% but why did he win more headers in half hour againsta  prem defence than he has all season ? He was putting his body on the line last night like he was doing a year ago

Exactly. He enjoyed the edgy atmosphere. Let's not manufacture that he hasn't had his chances or opportunity to perform this season!

But also because this season the ball has been played into his feet and he hasn't been given the chance to fight for the aerial ball.

thats not right - i 100% agree he should never be playing as a lone striker but he has had a lot of aerial duals this year and lost virtually every one - he was a raging bull last night, that was the difference

What a good win despite being right up against i thought we showed real fight & passion just what we have been missing of late
Just need to take that into the league games now do that & we could still make the playoffs
    Come on you Reds

It’s all been said already but the highlights of last night for me were

    1. a proper giantkilling

    2. George Dobson - seemed like there were two of him at times

    3. confident keeper happy to play the long ball. He tried passing it out once, saw how that panned out and then went long again.

    4. The crowd. Both sets of fans up for it.

    5. Brighton fans thinking they were lauding it over us from the upper west, not realising their big banner was back to front.

    6. Not being able to hear that ‘kin song at the end because of the cheering

Great night in an otherwise dispiriting season. So far.

Don't you remember him saying he wishes he would 'scuff a header into the net' as had multiple efforts hit straight at the goalie, or wide.

That's what we need to do with away performances until we get out of this mess.......Dobbo brilliant, Innis and Sessingnon were great as well.....also a shout out to Chin who was outstanding and I have been one of his critics not that I think he isn't good enough but he's been thrown in the deep end, AMB had a great game
Chin playing on the right looks a lot more accomplished than when he’s played out of position at LB.
  • It's so funny. After all the abysmal performances, a caretaker manager, an absolute bananas week off the pitch with total instability and then we only go and beat a really good Premier league team to reach our first QF in 9 years. What a crazy few days to be a Charlton fan.
