Would anyone take a win tomorrow if it meant defeat on Saturday v Barnsley ??? Personally no .. but we ever do very well against Barnsley anyway !!!
I would take a win tomorrow if it meant losing the next 3 league games, maybe more! We will remember beating Man Utd for years to come, same can’t be said for defeats to Barnsley, Peterborough and Bolton
I'd certainly remember being relegated to League 2 for years to come.
Whoever is in goal for us will have a back ache from picking the ball out of the back of our net. We will score a worldy though to cheer our superb following.
Thread up on the Man U forum about the match. Opening picture Alan Curbishley
Their potted history of us ends with Curbs leaving in 2006. Can't we just pretend that everything since then has been a bad dream and wake up...
Yes loved the comment from someone, oh they’ve got rid of Curbishley beware the new manager bounce 😆 There are some right jokers on there, just like here then I guess.
No real doubts about the result tomorrow but looking forward to it massively. Think it will be a cracking atmosphere from our lot from start to finish.
Would be a shame to see us move away from the 4-3-3 that we have had the last two games as I think the team who have won the last two deserve to go up there and give it a go. It really doesn't matter if we get beat 4-0, let's be honest, it's about the occasion and enjoying it and knowing with hard work and a lot of togetherness, and of course investment, we can get back there.
If we change to a back 5, O'Connell will come in for Morgan. Otherwise unchanged.
Can't predict the result, would be over the moon if we score, cannot imagine how it would be if we somehow came away with a win.
Look forward to losing my voice and supporting my club at a famous stadium in a great occasion.
We deserve a day like this.
Playing Man United with 2 center mids would be suicide, even if its against McFred.
Playing an additional centre half against United is an extra pass, which we probably don't want to make and a point of the line that can still be breached. If we do want to go more defensive we ought to put an extra hard working midfielder in there.
Have to go 4-3-3/4-4-1-1 you would think - with two of the midfield three shielding the back four at all times and Fraser in behind Leaburn. Going into our shell at Old Trafford with five at the back will only end up one way.
I can see the argument for changing personnel and getting some more defensively responsible options so we can double up when defending the wings (Campbell and/or DJ in for Rak-Sak and/or DJ) but changing formation shouldn't be on the table IMO.
We're nowhere near the calibre of teams they drop points against in the league but 4-3-3 is a formation that's caused them the most grief so far this season.
Just watched the full Dean Holden interview and was impressed. no nonsense. says it as it is, seems to set high standards around the way players need to conduct themselves and won’t accept a lack of effort its all us fans ask for!
Manchester United suffered its third consecutive defeat in the English League soccer season today, losing, 1-0, at home to Charlton Athletic.
A second-half goal by Mark Stuart, a midfielder, gave Charlton the victory.
Elsewhere, Ian Rush, a Welsh star who is on loan to Liverpool, scored a second-half goal as the defending league champion edged Arsenal, 2-1.
After three games, Tottenham Hotspur went to the top of the standing by topping Manchester City, 1-0.
A version of this article appears in print on Aug. 31, 1986, Section 5, Page 7 of the National edition with the headline: Manchester United Suffers Third Defeat.
We lose 5-0 with injuries to Leaburn, Fraser, Dobson and Sess. Innis sent off in the 97th minute as he realises needs to save some face.
Holden gets sent off for celebrating a Manure goal with their fans and his Dad.
TS comes out of twitter hiding, by saying he expected that this number of fans would attend the home games, since he kindly reduced the price (after hiking them).
Due to illness I have a spare ticket for tomorrow. Happy for it to go a good home for £20. It’ll be next to me in block E332. If you or anyone you know is interested, let me know.
If it goes unused I’ll be donating it to the museum as memorabilia of the time we beat Utd 3-0 at Old Trafford!
Going on the coach from Bromley with my son. Was there when we won back in '86. Trying to pretend I'm not nervous and it's all about the day out, but I just don't want to see us humiliated. A spirited performance is all I ask for from the players. Seeing us score a goal would be brilliant. The atmosphere is bound to be absolutely fantastic. Whatever the outcome, hopefully this might somehow inspire a change in our fortunes.

5-1
We'll do well to keep the goals tally down to single figures

I was there in 2003 to see us lose 4-1.
I will be there tomorrow & would be ecstatic if we keep it down to 5-1.
Hope we play 4-3-3 & don't try to contain them. Like us Man U's weakness is at the back. Get at them & try to score.
Prediction.. 6-0.
we're gonna smash em
