I don’t see him as an impact player - no pace, no height, no physicality - they are normally impact players as the game opens up and / or you go more direct
The new handbook shows 7 goals out of 22 apps for Payne not that bad for a league 1 squad player
Not a position of immediate need but think we should be throwing our hat in the ring for this one… a proper left back to compete with Edun long term.
English, only 25, started his career at Brighton. Played 100 games in the Eredivisie across four seasons, been on trial at Hull but isn’t being offered a contract there. Wigan now apparent front runners.
I sent his name in to Steve Gallen around Christmas time. He has been pretty impressive in his time over there and looks like a very decent player. I didn’t get any feedback at the time. I’m fairness I’ve sent some names to Charlie already and I’ve had decent feedback on 2 of the 3 so they did actually read what I sent. Hopefully there really is a change in the way we operate now.
Couldn't give a fuck. If he's gonna be the missing piece that gets us out of this bloody league, we can just worry about replacing him when he refuses to play for us for whatever reason
Wouldn't want him now if he refused to play for them or "wasn't in the right place" to play.
Or is it OK when we sign them?
Preferably not. Taylor and Parker come to mind.
Well quite but does it work they same if we are the "big" club?
Or does it show a real desire to come and play for us? Hunger to better himself a point to prove?
If it was us bidding, which is a big if. I did see here and else where that us bidding for Nombe could unsettle him and force Exeter's hand. I think it's hypocrisy, totally understandable, but hypocrisy all the same.
Tbh think Harrogate have just been honest as apposed to saying he was sick or had a knock like clubs usually do. Would still take him, though think he's off to Exeter...

It's par for the course. His present club say they have received firm bids. Evidently the player is unsettled and discussed the issue with agent and club.
You can't blame a player ambitious enough to want to try and prove himself in a higher division - and dare I say it, hope to be offered a contract that provides a better income. The player is already 27 and may feel that a move this summer will provide that opportunity. Now or ever.

To me, refusing to play whilst under contract is trashy behaviour.
Totally agree but we must have been the beneficiary of it before?
Happens a lot a players head gets turned as the terminology goes, especially if a big club comes along , remember Scott Parker I remember Curbs saying it about him before he went to Chelsea

Exactly, and 20 years later we are still crying about it.
Just out of interest @Swisdom, how does it work with you sending the Club Management a few players? I'd have thought a professional setup would ignore it as 'fan mail', or do they hold you in good regards for spotting decent players?
Hopefully. But Exeter have had a decent bit of money come in so could just be buying him to partner Nombe considering they don’t have Jevani Brown or Stansfield from last season
If we bring in a replacement then I think so, even if it's just out on loan. At the end of the PSF against Aberdeen he sat on the chairs next to the dugout for a good 2-3 mins and didn't speak to anyone from the team, the coaches or anyone. Just kinda sat there, boots in hand, staring off at the Curbs Stand.

A club like Exeter can’t afford to let Nombe go for nothing despite whatever other money has come in over the summer. He’ll go at the right price but he’ll go this window I’m sure.
Even with the money Exeter have got this summer from the Ampadu sell on clause and Key , they can't be turning down 500k+ bids for Nombe for the whole window. If they get Armstrong in early next week I could see another bid for Nombe going in straight away. I think ultimately it will happen but it might be one that does go to the last couple of days of the window.

Wouldn’t be suprised to see Egbo reunite with Garner at Colchester.

Would be a very good replacement for Junior Tchmadeu if he does go to the championship , could easily see that happening
Thanks Ronnie, I did not know this as I went to the game. I did see his low performance score on football app, which was a bit surprising given the result so this could explain that.
I thought Egbo was excellent when he came on. Given some of the comments that suggest he will be leaving I would just say that I will be very disappointed if he does.

It probably happens a lot tbh
i got to know Steve Gallen when we were thee hurt sponsors during Covid and we used to chat a bit. He knew I had some scouting qualifications so knew I’m not a weirdo but that I genuinely want to help the club. Every so often he would say what they were looking for and usually the criteria was “out of contract, soon to be out of contract or a free transfer”
so I would go out, look at various stats depending on position, then I’d check their socials and see what type of person they were (no dickhead rule), then check out their contract status as per Transfermarkt as well as who their current agent is on there and see if that agent was already representing someone we have on our books so may have a relationship with, then watch as much footage as I can on my own Wyscout subscription, compile a report of strengths and weaknesses. Then, if they seem a decent fit I would send in the name and report.
a lot goes into it and Steve appreciated I wasn’t just bombarding them with a teenagers wish list but I was actually doing a job for them for free. If one signing comes of it then I’ll be proud and I’ve helped the club.
one I strongly suggested was ignored because he was “no better than we already have” according to one of our scouts. I watched him for a couple of months at Dartford academy team. He just returned from Fulham’s pre season tour of America and is only 17 or 18. So it’s frustrating sometimes.
The one I sent in this week is hugely exciting but I fear we are too late as he may be about to move on. Again I only sent it to Charlie off the back of a conversation at the Gills game. I don’t plan to make a habit out of badgering him but I do intend to try to have a chat with Andy Scott to see if i can develop a similar relationship with him. It doesn’t cost them anything after all and, like I say, it only takes one player to sign from my recommendation and everyone is a winner.

I don't care whether we're the big club.
