Surprised Morgan has gone, seeing as how regularly he played under Holden,Disappointed about Innis as I liked him,but there you go.Just hope Hector and Thomas sign or we are in trouble at CB.The clear out that many people wanted has happened,I await with some trepidation their replacements.
Inniss gave us some much needed height at the back and considerably more grit - unfortunately he didn’t really turn up with many goals from the back, his injury record was terrible, and had a real problem with the red mist.
It's definitely what was needed, but I'm still amazed it's actually happened. Holden showing some balls as he knows they're not good enough. Just hope he's allowed to bring players in that he wants
Can I just add, doesn't it seem strange to publish the list on a Saturday afternoon? Do we think that TS has finally given up and new owners announced next week, and new player/players soon after? It just seems very strange day to publish the list!
Hope you are right but I fear we are in clutching at straws territory. I agree it is strange timing though.
I consistently seem to rate Clare higher than other people
Reminded me of a modern day Denis Booth, both were stop gap players, never quite good enough to be your first choice in whatever position they played.
Or not sufficiently specialist in one position?
I remember Dennis Booth in the later 60s - the regular number 12. Usually played in midfield when he got on, but I do remember a short run of games where he started as striker and scored a few goals.
Interesting. Right choice on Albie and Clare, bolder choice on Thomas
over Inniss but I have to say I'm finding the bold nature of these
releases fairly encouraging. Clare isn't a right back, isn't a centre
back and isn't a centre mid so it's right to let him go, and Albie is an
ok player if he's got time to run on his contract but you'd never sign
him. We need to now go for players better than Egbo, Fraser, Ness and
the rest.
I’d probably have kept Clare as a 4th choice full back plus extra versatility but he wasn’t particularly good. I’d have just gone for Inniss over Thomas but not much in it, just didn’t want both
Hopefully these players have been released because we’re aiming for better. I thought the same when we released Washington though so I hold out next to no hope.

Agreed. Out for a walk and popped in the pub for a quick pint and to check the football scores, and the last thing I was expecting was the released list.
I think the club have got it exactly right. They let go the ones I would have let go, and offered contract to the ones I wanted retained.
Bonne and Gilbey weren't in the conversation. Inniss, seems like a lovely guy, but we can do better, even as a fourth choice CB. What he does well isn't that hard to find in this league.
Clare I thought had a chance given how much he featured down the stretch. Another one who seems like a lovely guy. But given his output, you can't argue with the decision. His best attributes are his physical abilities. If he gets his head down focuses on his positioning and tactical awareness, I could see him becoming a good right sided defender at this level. As a midfielder, he lacks the technical and tactical aspects to be good enough. He is one that, in a couple of years, I could see us wondering why we let him go. But right now, the player that he is, we should be aiming to do better.
And then there's Albie. I understand it, I probably would have done the same, but it still makes me kind of sad. He is a technically gifted player with a good range of passing who is quite mobile. The problem is consistency and positional awareness. Four years in as a senior pro, and I still don't know the role that gets the most out of him.
He always worked hard, maybe too hard at times. I love how Robbo described him as having a bit of cheek about him. He's another one that I could see going somewhere and having a team figure out how to best utilize him and him running a midfield at this level. I could also see him in non-league in two years. I hope it's the former.
As for the players coming back, I would be open to giving DJ and Kirk a look in preseason if that's what both want. I could see one of them having a breakthrough. Both have done it at this level before, albeit in relatively brief spurts. I'm not saying either will come good, just that I think both have the tools to be better, more consistent players than we've seen.
I would move on Lavelle tomorrow if possible. And I think McGrandles is going to be given a fair amount of runway given he was never fully match fit for us and he had a good loan at Cambridge.
Well done Dean. I think you handled this really well. If what you're like behind closed doors is the same as how you come across in public, I'm sure you handled this well.
Now the challenge is to replace these players with better players. Resigning Hector would be a big coup. I still think highly of Aaron Henry, even if I think he'll need a loan at the start of next season to get more senior experience. I also think he was blocked by Albie, but that he has a much higher ceiling than Albie.
I've always thought highly of Thomas, and I think you saw some of that when he came into the team. Good on the ball, big, and mobile. I still worry a little about his ability to read danger, but he plays very well on the front foot, and if we want to press next season, he should fit that style well.
Over to the recruitment team. They have a big job ahead of them. Maybe start by giving Sess' agent a bell.
A clear out is great, must admit I didn't think it was going to be so big a clearout and hopefully shows that work has been/is going on behind the scenes, just need to see some serious new blood coming in to replace They must see a lot of potential in Henry... and also PLEASE sign Hector, will be a good partnership with Ness next season... Now we just need to find some mugs to take on Lavelle, DJ, and Kirk...🙄
Thomas likely to be cheaper than Inniss I.e happier to accept a squad player salary.
Can also cover left back which has been a massive problem area for us.
Weird how Thomas was about to leave at the end of January, only for the move to be cancelled at the last minute when O'Connell left, and now he's been offered a new deal.
Wow that's a clear out and not before time. Garner saw Morgan as a 10, Holden gets rid! Innis has surprised me as I saw an improvement in his game (not the hot headedness) when playing alongside Hector. I hope Hector signs for us, but outside of that I'm reserving judgement until I see what players are coming in. Would we offer a contract to Seesegnon once his deal with Fulham has expired? Glad to see the back of Bonne, and Gilbey. Well done to Holden, now let's get new owners and give Holden who he needs by spending some cash! Finally why keep Chucks? I see no point with his injury record.
No arguements from me about who's gone , can't really fault any of it. Thomas is fine as a 4th CB/cover LB , Henry has bags of potential but needs a loan in League 2 to toughen up and Hector hopefully can be a starter.
Loans coming back I wouldn't be against giving Kirk preseason at least , Mcgrandles comes straight into the squad for Morgan - not bothered about Lavelle and DJ , think both will drop into L2.
I must say I'm surprised the clear out is being greeted so positively as it seemed quite a few were advocating to keep this lot as 'squad players.'
Nonetheless it's very positive news. We can't keep doing what we're doing and expecting different results. It goes beyond just ability, the mentality on the pitch over the past few seasons has been diabolical. And I really trust Holden, with his psychological approach, to judge who he wants in his camp.

Saying a player is no more than a squad player ain't quite the same as saying you want to keep them as a squad player

We needed a clear out, we've been asking for a clear out, we're getting a clear out. Only positive imo
He's potentially done that now, and we may be thinking we can offer peanuts still

Also, he didn't track back anywhere near enough.
