Clare was a player that got unfair stick on here imo. Not a world beater but a decent player who always put a shift in. Let's see if we replace with better

And always got released by his previous clubs.
As you say he's not as bad as some made out, technically he's actually pretty decent. Problem is in reality he just isn't as good as he thinks and he became lazy too often.
Some posters were critical of Lockyer, blamed him in part for our relegation and said selling him was no loss. Personally I always had him down as a decent player, which is how I position Clare, a decent player.
The people saying Clare always put a shift in are the same people who kept saying Morgan and Inniss always put a shift in. If they always put a shift in I'd like to think we would have finished higher than mid table.

It doesn't work like that. None of those players lacked effort. Presence of mind, perhaps, but not effort

Lockyer was a specialist CB though, he'd spent all his career playing that one position.
Clare is ..... well, he sees himself as a CM, although in the few games he played for us there, he didn't generally live up to expections. His old manager at Oxford, none other than Karl Robinson, thought much the same - and in fact, saw Clare as a RB.
Oh, no thank you, said Mr Clare and was soon signing for Charlton as a CM. Jacko played him at RCB (a role to which the player adapted pretty effectively defensively, specialising as an overlapping CB). This season with different formations and Egbo injured pre-season, despite being positionally vulnerable Clare found himself playing his dreaded RB role, the reason he left Oxford in the first place.
And there's the issue. Clare is a useful utility player but his most recent managers don't see him as specialist in any one position ..... and apparently not at CM. And that's where Clare wants to play.
Interesting comments on Clare. He came in as centre midfielder (although the manager at the time apparently wasn't that impressed with the acquisition). He was called upon to play in the back line as a centre half and actually put in some good performances. At right back he was man of the match on a couple of games and scored one of the goals of the season. But some games he was poor and was caught out of position on several occasions. He also tended to lose concentration or get upset over decisions. Utility players are handy to have but our manager obviously has plans where he doesn't fit anymore. As for the others, Holden has come to the same conclusion as many fans about Inniss and Morgan and wouldn't be surprised if the returnees are moved on too. Shame about Harness though - hope we don't regret losing him next season.
Did we choose to sell Beadle or was he stolen under that scheme(forget the name) to help the premier league teams get the best young talent for even cheaper?

The latter - Although I dont think Brighton screwed us over with the compensation
I think he left through EPPP rules as never signed a contract. EPPP have a set £ per year of training and I doubt Brighton voluntarily would have paid more than that measly amount.
Someone on here who seemed well connected said the Beadle family insisted on some proper compensation coming out way or he wouldn't sign for Brighton (they are fans of Charlton I believe). £400K was the amount quoted somewhere iirc.
Suspect Terrell Thomas will snap up the new deal, whereas things are remained to be seen with Henry and Hector.
Wont celebrate anyone leaving just yet. We released Washington and Purrington with great success last season after all
Shame that Harris O'Connor is moving on from the U21s, I liked the look of him when he appeared for us the season just gone
Bonne / Washington replaced by May... But we still need to replace Stockley
Clare | Gilbey | Harness not really replaced as yet
Inniss has been replaced by Jones, and Morgan by Camara
So far on paper I'm happy... the club look to have got it right
If each of those get upgrades like May/Camara were to Bonne and Morgan respectively then that's very useful business indeed, although still probably leaves us a bit short in depth/numbers terms.

We also have to think of others we need to replace
Rak-Sakyi, the hardest job of the lot
Then Sessegnon | Kane | Penney | Kilkenny too - So in an ideal world... Still want another five / six signings if we can get away with it
Don't think we'll replace Rak-Sakyi. If we're going 5-3-2, we need to build depth in different areas. Both wing-backs, especially left, must be the priority, after another striker of course. Then we pretty much have 2 for every position. Assuming we lose Kirk and DJ, maybe send Henry on loan, then perhaps another CM will be in order as well.

Oh definitely. We're moving towards a competitive team but still well short of a promotion level squad. Reality says that at least one or two will be loanees too but you'd have to hope for a few quality permanent signings in that 5/6.

May with his goals is effectively the JRS replacement, but as it looks like we’ll play two strikers we need one more to come in as a minimum.
