    His goalscoring at Dorking:

Writing the lad off because he’s 20 is ridiculous. He’s a natural goalscorer who has scored at every level he’s been given the opportunity (lately 8 goals in 10 games for Dorking, who loved him) but also a couple of bad injuries. Let’s see how he recovers and what the club have planned for him…there were certainly suitors sniffing around when he initially turned pro with us and it wasn’t certain we’d be able to keep him.

And never forget…Leicester didn’t pick Vardy up from non-league until he was 25!  🤷🏻‍♂️
For every 1 Jamie Vardy you have 10,000 players who never make it. I’m not saying he won’t go on to have a good career and ever reach this level because he may well do but you can’t keep a player for 4/5 years on end hoping that one day they’re ready.

People will say Anderson, TC, Leaburn, Kanu aren’t good enough for Charlton despite being L1 players at 19, but Casey who’s best achievement is 10 games in NLS at 20 can’t be written off.

Could be worth the gamble if his wages are low and does ok at NL to get himself a football league move for some potential profit but not expecting him to ever touch our first team
No one is saying give him a 4-5 year deal, but we'd be foolish to write off a striker who scores goals whenever he plays.

I'd imagine it'll be a 1-2 year deal and then we loan him out to a NL club for 6 months and see how he gets on. If he does well we can look at getting him a league two loan. I agree he's probably not likely to make it with us, but there are plenty of kids who are never ever going to make it at City and Chelsea. It doesn't stop them loaning them out for multiple seasons and then getting a transfer fee when they decide to sell.
Fair enough when you look at it from a player trading perspective it’s a good argument. I was more coming from the fact it didn’t make as much sense as I highly highly doubt he would make it to a Charlton level in 2-3 years however long his deal is

I was a game at Sparrows Lane when Celtic sent a scout to watch Casey.

The guys in reception asked to see his paperwork. He said he didn't have any. They refused him entry.

Was that the week before we were playing Southampton and were the first team training at the same time?

The 1-5 defeat is starting to make a bit more sense now when you think about it

If Patrick Casey makes the first team with his apparent body language, if he doesn’t score the winner one game in two, it will make the fan criticism of TC look like tender devotion.

Yes. Two minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Oxford about 28 months ago. I apologise for forgetting.

I think the challenge with Casey is that he is an out and out poacher.  He is not quick enough to be a second striker and not big enough or string enough to play as a central forward.  His lack of pace is really what is his limiting factor.  Now there are plenty of players in the lower leagues who have fit that profile - there are also plenty of of players who never made it above non league football who fit that profile.

If we have ambitions to stay in the championship for a while, then he won’t be playing for us despite what Ronnie Moore says.  So it really is weighing the wages we will be paying him on a probable one year deal (which will be low) vs could we eventually get a small transfer fee or sell on fee. I could see a reasonable decision being made either way

Not sure if it's accurate but his height online is listed as 6ft 2. And anyone can get stronger if they spend their summer in the gym.

Interesting article in ‘GetSurrey’ yesterday that I’ve just seen.

Marc White at Dorking claims he’s ‘made 6 signings already’ - One he has to ‘sort out compensation for.’

Wondering if I’m putting 2+2 together and getting why we’ve offered Casey a new deal.

Smart to offer the contract. Any compensation would likely be more than we could sell him for

And he says they have been consulting with Charlton Athletic, and others, as to how to improve their support team.

I think that was for Josh Barrett from Aldershkot

No, none of those six are loanees or signed from us. That said, DW have a great relationship with CAFC now so I do expect to see one or two of them come back this season, on loan if not permanent. Especially as the DW squad is a bit small right now.

MW has been talking to the CAFC staff about how to improve the strength and conditioning department, and get better at the recovery stuff as the injuries were out of control last season. He's planning to go over and hang out at Sparrows Lane to get some ideas.

Also a pre season friendly against some form of CAFC side in August, presumably the U21s

Bizarrely this relationship came about because someone on Twitter with an anonymous account recommended Pat to me, so I told MW, and when he saw the goal stats he said "fuck about!" and eventually signed him. Then the same guy recommended Kai, and since then DW have become pals to CAFC. I don't know the guy's name, but he might be on here!

Long may this relationship last & prosper.
