We are in danger of turning into a one team division. Really need Arsenal or Liverpool to step it up next year.
I can only see it being a two horse race between City and Arsenal next year, as i think Liverpool with their new manager might need a transitional season. Also the Salah to Saudi rumours aren't going away and that will be a big gap to fill.
I've said it before on this thread but i think if Chelsea sign a top quality number 9 and get their injured players fit and ready for next season, i think they will be up there. They're not good enough to challenge the top 2, but i think they'll definitely be top 4.
Osimhen, if he finds the form he was showing before, would be a good bet for them I think.
Chelsea’s problem is that they can’t sign anyone of any note without blasting FFP rules out the water.
They will need to sell a tonne of home grown players this summer to do that…. But Reece James needs to prove to a buyer he is fit to play for a whole season, and Gallagher is a key player for them who would need to be replaced anyway.
no way are they spending £100m anytime soon unless Boehly is prepared to just take the points deduction
Arsenal's win yesterday means the title race will go to the last day, and they now need Spurs to do them a favour on Tuesday.
Only a 1 goal win today though (and now a 3 better goal difference) means that even if City were to draw in midweek then it's not quite over. If City were to batter West Ham 6-0 on the last day then Arsenal would need to beat Everton by 4.

So where's this one horse race I can be reading from others on here? The definition of "one horse race" is one where only one team has a real chance of winning. Not one that is decided at the very last opportunity for that to happen and possibly in the last few minutes in the season as it was when City won in 2012.

Or 2 years ago when City pipped Liverpool on the last day, coming from 2-0 down with 15 minutes left to beat Villa. Or 2019 when City again edged Liverpool on the last day.
The end result is always the same (City win it) but they have had some very close battles.

Chelsea have allegedly found a way to get round FFP. A couple of weeks ago the owners sold two hotels for 76m to a different company owned by........themselves. Now it's being reported that they've done the same with their Cobham training ground for 100m+.
Makes a complete mockery of the Premier League if they're allowed to do it, but if they can get away with it then it's pretty smart on their part.
Can't help but feel if it was City or the Saudi's at Newcastle doing this there would be outrage, but it seems to have gone a bit under the radar.
If Villa win tonight then Spurs have nothing to play for tomorrow so come on Villa
Yep Come on Villa lol.
'and there's been another goal at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, who's got it Sam Matterface...?'
'its Spurs 0 Man City 14. Yes you heard that right, fourteen. City have been clinical tonight but they haven't had to be as Oliver Skipp has just put through his own net for the 5th time this evening.
This must be some kind of record Adrian, we've already had OGs from Son, Romero, van der Venn and Porro. I dont think I've seen a game like it. Back to Adrian Durham in the studio...'
'Sam, how to you think this will lay with Arsenal?'
'Oh you can imagine the club secretary is already typing an official club statement accusing Spurs of match fixing but Skipp's 5th OG, was an absolute beauty, lobbed over a stranded Vicario from the halfway line was outrageous, he couldn't have done that again if he tried!'

It's really mixed. I honestly don't know. Have seen so many different opinions.
For those of us that have followed Spurs 30-40 years and have suffered at the hands of Arsenal under Wenger, then we throw it.
But so many seem to think CL football is the be and end all.
All of us would have snapped your hand off for 5th (if we beat Shef Utd last day its guaranteed regardless of the result against City), so take it and be happy.
If you want a %, I reckon its 70-30 in favour of throwing the game against City. I honestly thought it would be greater than that.

Isn’t that basically what’s happened at Charlton with £60 million of debt moved by Roland when he separated the ownership of the Valley from the club before he sold it ?

Surely the players aren't as small time as the fans though, they will want to beat City. It's not like Spurs have a ton of homegrown Londoners in the team that give a shit about Arsenal winning the league that much
Levy will want top 4. I imagine the players will want top 4 also, even though they'll be aware that the fans will be desperate that Arsenal don't win the title.
The ultimate Spursy thing would be for them to beat City on Tuesday to help Arsenal win the title, then lose to Sheffield United and end up 5th

I suspect it’s more than ‘want’ top 4 and more of a case of needing it. Without Champions league football they are only going to see the gap that’s opened up between themselves and Arsenal widen even more.
Those spurs fans that would rather lose to stop Arsenal need to wake up and take one for the team if Villa lose tonight.

Trust me, it was kicking off all over the shop in the South Stand at 3-0 down to Arsenal after 40 minutes or whatever it was. Spurs on Spurs all over the top tier. Riot police were outside the stand at half time. It wont take much for it to kick off again!

Yep, Levy will want top 4 no doubt. So will the players, so will Ange. Any team losing to Sheff Utd doesn't deserve CL football.

Hmmm. Trust me, I'm finding this very difficult, especially if 4th place is still in the equation. It doesn't rest easy with me at all.
I'll say this though. Put yourself in the same situation. If you lose a game, and the result was it either stopped Millwall or Palace winning a trophy...or got them relegated... it messes with your heads!

Does it though? If we were in a situation where a win can take us into the play offs or saves us from relegation but meant Millwall or Palace winning the league then I'd take it all day long. As long as there is benefit to us, who cares.
If Villa win tonight and your City game is meaningless then fair enough, roll over for a tummy tickle but if there is something to play for surely you want the best for your team regardless of the consequences to your rivals.

Charlton first and foremost, worrying about two numpty teams doesn’t even register if we were in the running to achieve something ourselves.
If Villa win tonight though then Spurs can go back to end of season choke mode and kid themselves that they lost deliberately to stop Arsenal 😂
What would happen if Spurs played a second string side on Tuesday, trouble from the FA?
The precedent for doing so has been set numerous times. Not least when Liverpool put out a reserve side against Fulham in 2007. Fulham won 1-0 and stayed up by one point. It would be fun if they did though only to be able to hear Arteta's rant afterwards!

Look at average points over the last 5 years and then you'll see what people are saying.

What has average points got to do with anything and even 5 years is short-term. You can take any 5 year period in the history of top flight English football and found a team that has been dominant - Liverpool, United, Arsenal et al and in any event, in the last decade, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and even Leicester have won the PL. The fact that Arsenal could still win it on the final day does not mean that, come the beginning of the season, the trophy is automatically awarded to City does it?

So now because Bayern didn't win the German League it's no longer a single team division?
Upsets happen. Man City have won (potentially) 6 titles from the last 7. 4 Titles in row. Both are a feat that has never happened before in this country.
The trophy isn't automatically awarded. But is the league competitive when Man City in 38 games don't lose more than 5 of them?

Like arsenal, you mean? Or Liverpool.
3 teams in the title chase seems pretty competitive to me.

You must have bankrupted a few bookmakers by backing this certainty in the last three seasons. You can still get just under 2/5 on Betfair for them to win it. There's only two games for them to go and as you can't get that from the banks, lump on again!

Of course it's competitive. There's less than a week left of the season and City are not even top. Last season it was competitive for 35 games. The season before that it went to the last 10 minutes of the season.
City might well win 4 in a row, but you could argue that if it wasn't for Arsenal throwing it away, we'd be sat here with City having not won it since 2022.
Just because City have been the better side in recent years, it doesn't mean the league hasn't been competitive.
