I wonder if there is an analysis compiled of the runs scored from the sweep/reverse sweep over the course of this Series what the score would be? Duckett and Pope were very good at playing it when the pitch allowed it to be played with a limited amount of risk but there have been any number of wickets lost as a result of playing it.
Is there an index anywhere listing the world's most obdurate batters? If so what metric underlies it?
I imagine it would be easy enough to pull up a list of those who've carried their bat most, which I'd like to see, but the likes of Tavare and Trott, to name a couple of the top of my head, didn't open for their country IIRC.
In the modern 'bazball' era where the demand for instant gratification is on trend, there seems little demand for batters with the ability to come in and take root (pardon the pun), but I think its a much underrated skill nowadays. This propensity for chasing ludicrous targets places no value on those heading out intent solely on preserving their wicket, which could prevent damaging defeats if executed well. Dropping the bat on good and bad balls rather than lashing out, in the interests of self preservation, should be encouraged depending on the game situation. I don't mind sitting watching a war of attrition play out over time, provided the suns out and the ale's drinkable!

50 partnership for Jurel and Kuldeep
227/7
77 no balls in 20 tests as he gets the siren, 2 balls in a row.
Second new ball taken and Robbo to bowl.
Jurel and Kuldeep accumulating singles with sensible batting.
253/7
253/8
The stubborn partnership of 76 is broken.
Jurel then hits a 6 and a 4 in Bashir's next over.
Could prove costly 279/8
5 wickets for Bashir
293/9
Expect Fireworks from Jurel now as he wants his 100
Did you say that when he was batting or bowling ?
307 all out
India trail just by 46 runs and the game is in the balance.
The India spinners could cause havoc after seeing the inexperienced Bashir and Hartley take 8 wickets.
