  • Hartley and Shoaib have bowled very well in tandem - 16 runs off the last 9 overs. Still 93 required and a quick "bang, bang" and with 93 runs still needed, the game looks a different one.
And there's the first of them - Patidar out for a six ball duck to a great catch from Pope at short leg off Shoaib

    100-3 and still 92 needed
  • Jadeja is the big wicket now. Get him soon and I fancy us to win.
  • OMG! Hartley bowls one that hits a crack, barely gets an inch off the ground, turns square down the legside and is painfully, for an unlucky Foakes, rightly given as four byes.
  • With the advent of DRS, the Umpire's job is a hell of a lot easier than it once was but I have to say that Dharmasena and Tucker have been excellent.
  • 118-3 off 37 overs at lunch with another 74 needed.

We've, generally speaking, bowled very well, with very few freebies, albeit that the Indians have been content to allow the game to play out (Jadeja in particular with just 3 off 29) rather than take it to us.

Two wickets in two balls and we have a chance.

And there it is. Jadeja caught by Bairstow off Shoaib. Game on!

    120-4
  • And has Shoaib got Sarfaraz first ball caught at short leg? It's being reviewed as given "not out" initially
  • Sarfaraz has to go. Shoaib on a hattrick

    120-5
  • How I wish we'd opened with Anderson and Shoaib last night. The latter has bowled beautifully in this innings.

    So near yet so far:
Sensible batting and the 84 for the 1st wicket will be vital for India.

Sounds churlish to criticise Ben Stokes but if Rohit made the mistake of not putting on Ashwin to bowl early doors to Duckett in the last test then Stokes made a mistake in not having Bashir open the bowling in this 2nd innings.
  • 140-5 but more than 30 overs since we bowled a 4 ball. Excellent pressure from the two youngsters. Even if they ultimately fail, they will have learnt a lot.

    Right on cue

And then Shoaib bowls a half volley that gets dispatched. Even so, his matches figures of 64-11-174-8 are excellent.
  • Should we end up losing (which with just 37 to win looks likely) then we only have ourselves to blame for that poor batting display yesterday when we went from 65-2 to 145 all out.

110-3! We just needed to get another...70 runs? 60? I can't believe how badly they fucked it

    Exactly.
England had a first innings lead of45 and India had to bat last.
All England had to do yesterday was score 230 or 240 to be in the box seat.
We then proceed to bat rubbish.

We didn't even need that many
  • Jurel having a superb game. He's come in and changed the impetus of the innings.

    Is Jurel Pants 🤔

I believe Rishabh Pants will eventually come back as a batsman only for India(if selected)after his car crash and long lay off but the excellent Jurel with the gloves and batting ability could at 22 be the keeper for a decade for India.

Disciplined winning 50 partnership by Gill and Jurel who have calmed the situation after the 2 wickets in 2 balls.

Gill finally lets loose and hits 2 x 6's.
  • India win by 5 wickets to go 3-1 up in the Series
  • Standard England collapso cricket costs us
4-1 series defeat is better than expected but India aren’t as strong as they could be, big shame but fail to prepare ….

You can accept if you are out to 10 Jaffas but the combination of 3* world class spinners and bad decisions by the England batsmen in the 2nd innings and the fear of being all out for around 150 came to fruition.

    * Axar Patel makes 4 *with his 50 test wickets at 16.70 average and who with Ashwin destroyed England on our last tour to Indian.

Jurel must be MOM as India won.

To be fair, while England clearly could have batted better in the second innings, they were blown away by 3 world class spinners in their backyard. The equivalent of facing Broad, Anderson and Woakes on a green Headingley pitch.

I want Atkinson to get a test match and after hearing ex Captain Cook say about Dharmashala's chilly conditions where normally seam takes more wickets than spin then Gus should get a game.
Not worth Wood playing in a dead rubber with his Charlton type injury record so either Robinson or Anderson to play.
The education for Bashir and Hartley to continue even if it's not as conducive to spin compared to the other test venues in India.

India could have played Axar instead of Patidar (averaged an awful 10 from 6 innings at home) and shifted the batting lineup. It didn't matter in the end as Jurel really stood out for
    them.
