I don't know what some of you expect from what currently is a mid L1 team with 6 first teamers injured with inexperienced youngsters making up the numbers. We are a week into the window and it is far to early to make any conclusions.
Just untwist your proverbial knickers and see how the month ends up
Appleton needed to make subs, not even earlier, just make more of them full stop. Like Anderson, bless him, needed to come off but stayed on the full match.
I thought we looked bereft of ideas. Even if we broke and got into good positions, we went backwards and stopped the move, resorting to booting it up to Kanu who had a torrid time.
Whereas Port Vale, whatever we might think of them, cut through us with such ease. Hence why they had five times as many shots as us.
Just imagine we had 29 shots.
And this is how cruel football is, we still could have won it at the end with Dobbo/handball
Late goals beyond ridiculous now. Appleton’s post match comments completely deluded. Pissed off big time.
This is the nub of it for me. I didn’t expect anything today, and ultimately people could argue it’s a point and stops the rot of 3 defeats on the bounce. However, a point to stop the rot is typically, hard earned off the back of conceding no more than say one goal. In addition, in the context of the last 10 games or however long it’s been since we won, a point is pretty useless, particularly in this manner.
The thing that really grates me is that any half decent manager worth their salt, would be all over this late goals debacle. Even more criminal is that fact we get what really shout be a late winner, having scored for a third time, and we still can’t see it out. These are professionals, manager and players. All the players on the pitch today bar Tyreece Campbell and Kanu should have the experience to see that result out, and the manager with his time in the game, definitely should.
Then, we get yet another load of babble in his post match interview. I understand he can’t dig them out given the lack of options we have, specifically publicly, but he can’t seriously be coming out with some of the stuff he has and be expected to be taken seriously.
I think he’s already lost the fan base partly due to the fact a lot of people including me, weren’t that up for him in the first place, plus the bad run. But, if he had maybe come out with some halfway sensible post match views, then maybe we would give him a bit more slack.
He’s definitely not inherited a great squad, I’ll give him that, but for me, his actions and words over the last few weeks have hastened a sort of self destruction.
And now, my worry is that if these owners are serious about building for promotion next season, I absolutely don’t want it to be with his players or players he thinks we’ll do the job. I think he’ll he gone by Feb, therefore we shouldn’t trust him with a say in who comes in
Appleton “very proud of the lads because they showed how tough and resilient they are. They're 'spirited', 'never say die' and 'never know when they're beat”
Someone tell him we have 1 win in 10 please
He's taking the piss.
More like on the piss, he should be breathalysed after comments like that.

Glad you have faith that these fuckwits will do any decent signings in any window let alone this one. The 2 signings announced yesterday look like the same old crap.
Appleton is a useless twat who has the personality of a rocking horse and if he was a decent manager, he might be acceptable, but a shit manager with zero personality is the worst of all worlds.
As it see it this is a turning point. We didnt lose & by the Peterborough match we will have 3 or 4 new players in the matchday squad along with a returning Alfie May.
Had every expectation that we would lose that game 4-3 even with seconds left on the clock. This manager has the tactical nous of Blackadder’s Baldrick. When you are 3-2 up away from home with mere minutes to go, how about going 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 absolutely packing the midfield? I am absolutely lost as to how an ex-professional footballer like Andy Scott cannot see these failings as we unqualified fans can? Can only imagine he is buying time to save his own face/a*se.
On the more positive side, was pleased to see all front three score, thought one of Ash’s reflex saves was breathtaking and was great to hear and be amongst the chanting. Learnt that the Jones song contains the words ‘broken ankles’ thought it was ‘closing angles’, which I thought was a bit too well thought out and sophisticated for a player chant. Learn something new every day…
I get that MA doesn't want to call out the shortcomings of the current squad and what's been going wrong but I do wish he'd make at least a couple of nods to it as I think that would go some way to close the distance between him and some of us fans. I know the quality of the opposition will increase over the next month or so but I really am hopeful that with a better midfield (injured players back and new signings) and perhaps Chuks, JCH and Alfie in the mix it'll give our defence some breathing room and we'll be able to hold our own or better. I'm still in the give him a chance camp.
I think maybe both Jones and Hector aren't good enough. To be honest they seem a similar level to TT.
I think that's harsh on Jones. He was a bit off his game today but he's been our best defender this season by a big margin. And Thomas is way off the pace for a league one side.
Thomas has been ok-ish generally this season, but looked awful today. Jones had his worst game for us today, and has looked more shaky than normal in recent weeks. Hector has improved and has looked more solid in our last seven games.
But all of the defenders would look better if our midfield wasn’t so easily outmuscled.
Thomas has been shocking this season. Albeit partly because he is constantly being played out of position at left back. But ‘ok-ish’ !!??
1. This looks like handball to me and would’ve been a chance to make it 3-4
2. Dobson’s done all the hard work getting into position but then he tries a weird flick instead of just smacking the ball at the goal? Why?
Am I the only one who doesn’t really care about his post match comments?
The last manager was brilliant at all the PR stuff, and where did that get us.
I’ll want Appleton out if, by the end of the season, we are still not winning matches despite our recruiting the players he wanted. Enough of the mass hysteria already.
His feeble and weak voice/accent means I rarely hit the play button.
After 3 consecutive defeats this feels like a victory to me, scant consolation I know but at least I’m not going to be depressed and pissed off all weekend and into next week!
If and it’s a big if, we get a few more players of quality into the building this week who are fit enough to be considered for next weeks team, then we might see some improvement.
Yeah, I know, I’ll wake up in a minute and realise the nightmare goes on.

I went today but I couldn’t slag them off even if I wanted to. I thought they gave of their best even the young lads who shouldn’t need to be thrown into to the deep end week after week.
We definitely look better with Louis Watson in the team though, then again a lot of us have been saying that for a while and I know it’s no consolation but if we think our defence is bad Vale’s is just as bad if not worse.
Not many on the pre match thread thought we’d come away with anything and I would’ve been happy with a point so all in all and despite another late, late gut wrenching goal against I’m satisfied that we kept Vale below us in the table. With some reinforcements and others back from injury I’m mildly confident that we won’t be flirting with the bottom four.
My live feed failed at 2-2. I was delighted to see on BBC website we went 3-2 up and decided that I was the bad luck for the team. Turns out it's them, not me!

Penalty isn't it if the ref sees it. Prevents our number 2 scoring or missing - a relatively open goal - at the back post. But then we'd have likely missed the penalty anyway so i supposed it's evened out.

I totally agree with this but, despite the disappointment of another late goal conceded, I had a great day today. The pubs we went to were good, the people we met were lovely, the atmosphere in the away end was positive and there was no toxicity after the game.
Things are horrible at the moment but I still love Charlton and I love days like today. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, these lovely days will be accompanied by three points!

Serious LOL merchant!!

As the Labour Party said in 1997.......
"Things,....can only get better"
