Let’s be honest, how many times have you watched BSW in the last couple of years to form a valid opinion on him? Nobody on this forum can honestly say they watch Fleetwood regularly surely? Just looking at their league position and forming an uneducated opinion.
I don't think it matters whether new signings are championship players moving down a level, top or bottom of league one, league two players, non league starlets or prem loans.
As long as they have the right attributes, have a natural place in the system NJ wants to play and have the right mentality then we should be looking at them.
Defining one league or one segment of a league to recruit from seems needlessly limiting to me, so I couldn't be fussed where they come from as long as they can do the job.

I think when signing players from the league above it can be hard to get that done early. Unless a player is properly unwanted it can be a situation where the player has to wait to see if he's going to have a place in the squad or not. If you're the second choice left back for a decent Championship team competing to become first choice you might hang around and they might not want to let you go, but if your team then bring in a new left back to go ahead of you you'll become available. That's not always the case but arguably would a totally unwanted Championship player be considered marquee on here?
I think the whole marquee/level of signing thing is a bit of a trap anyway, especially with Jones as manager. If we hadn't picked up Ladapo in January and he became available now, we swooped in and got him he'd probably be seen as a marquee signing. Striker from a (now) Premier League team with Championship experience. Great! Except he's rubbish now. Our 'marquee' signings in recent years apart from May have generally been bad as well; Stockley and Kirk, Gilbey and Schwarz. I don't think Jones is going to be the type of manager who gets the biggest names, I think he'll be ultra-focused on the profile of player he wants. Wiredu is a proper athlete, skillful running on the ball but a unit defending against it and Jones needs the players to suit his style or it doesn't matter how good they are on the ball, we'll fall apart.

The word Jones keeps using is 'athlete'. He's going to want to have a physically capable player in every single position if he can. He'll want strong, defender-first centre backs, fast, fit and strong wing-backs, he'll expect every midfielder including the creative ones to be able to scrap and press and he'll want a target man who can hold the ball up and rough up defenders.
If we signed piergianni I think he would end up like Lavelle/inniss for us. Looks okay in a team playing no football because he’s dominant in the air but don’t think he is good enough for a promotion team.
Just finished outside the play-offs as captain of a side who most people had down for relegation. The best defender statistically in the league, and overall best player in the league. He was the best defender statistically last season in league 2 and 2nd highest rated overrall just behind Owen Moxon, who will now be a championship player next season.
I think it's genuinely unfair to compare him to the likes of Lavelle and Innis as they couldn't get anywhere near that level of performance or consistency. Sam Lavelle can't even stand out for Carlisle unless for negative reasons, and Innis just got relegated from League 2.
He'd walk into this team, be the best defender, and make us a better team immediately.
Only type of lists you'd find Innis or Lavelle on these tweets for would be most bookings on own goals, honking players

He dominates the defensive statistics because he plays in a team that does a lot of defending and want the ball in the air as much as possible. He isn’t the best defender in the league (he wouldn’t get near Pompey’s team) just like Tennai Watson isn’t the best right back in the league.
It all depends what kind of team Jones wants to build, if we are just going to brexit ball it like we were this season then he might fit. Personally I think that was just Jones doing what was necessary to get results and stay up, next season I think we will play much more football so we need players that can do that and do the defensive side

Tennai Watson, again, like Lavelle and Innis, isn't a good measure. Tennai is the only player in the whoscored tots who doesn't belong, so 1 in 11 is inaccurate and it's probably down to a lack of players in that position/his game time allowed his stats to be higher. If it was based on players who had played 40+ 90 minute games, he wouldn't be anywhere near that list.

If you put any of our centre backs in that Stevenage team instead of him, they'd all look like horse shit, and Stevenage would have finished at least a few players lower. I'd love a centre back who is comfortable on the ball, scores headers, and looks flashy, but we are a league 1 side, it isn't realistic.

That’s true. My point being we need to be in general looking in a better market than league one and league two. Doing that has got us into the position we find ourselves now. Worst league finish since 1926 (?) and an fully established and paid up member of the third teir of English football, even flirting with worse. If Poole hadn't got injured he'd have been comfortably the best CB in the League. There will be CBs out there that are very comfortable on the ball , it's just going to be how well can NJ sell the club to them in a very competitive league.
