Doesn't pre-season start next Thursday? I thought we would have done more business by now if I'm being honest. Hopefully a busy week ahead.
Technically it’s 4 players if Mitchell is done which is a lot more than usual before pre season, I think Jones has put un needed pressure on himself by saying it’ll be done when in hindsight it’s so rare to have your squad sorted by then but hopefully 2/3 next week and that’ll take us up to 6/7 which isn’t to bad.
Still not enough & the 4 or 5 new players ncludes 2 GK's. We are still a very long way off assembling a squad that could get top 6, let alone automatic promotion. I'm not sure if a couple of defenders, 2 GK's & a midfielder on the wrong side of 30 could be described as squad rebuilding.
Ho hum.
I get where your coming from Golfie, we’re miles off at the moment, but let’s hope we are in a much better place with signings in a months time.
Football forums, and patience don’t seem to go hand in hand.
The difference this year is Jones set the expectation that the squad would largely be in place in time for preseason.
With that being less than a week away it’s not looking like it’ll happen. We need around 8-10 signings and a handful of players to move on.
Did he say he will have the squad in place or he would like to have the majority of the squad in place?
the problem is that the majority want it to be the first statement and are hanging on it, winding themselves up and others up because they can’t see it happening.
if and I know it’s an if and we have 2-3 in next week and another 2-3 in during the rest of the window, jones has got his wish. And that is a lot of our business (not all) done in time for pre season training.
Here’s what he said after we signed Mannion.
“We’d like to get the squad completed by our return date of June 27th,” he said. “We’ve worked tirelessly for the last three to four weeks in terms of arranging meetings with players. We’re trying to be bold in our recruitment.
“I’m sure that by the time that we do get to the first day of pre-season, we’ll have the majority, if not all, of our squad in place. That’s so important because pre-season is a real big time, an important time to gel the squad and lay down certain things.
I must have missed Jones stating how many players he is going to sign and in which positions. I am guessing another GK, a striker and an attacking midfielder, but would appreciate the facts. Cheers.
The point is it’s looking unlikely all signings will be done by this time next week. Not saying we should panic though.
I am chilled with it all as I believe that our owners are determined to deliver a lot of Jones’s wish list. Without knowing the numbers and positions how will we know what success looks like? Is everyone going to be using their own personal opinion as to what that is or is there an ITK that has an informed idea?
I think we will know what success looks like by how we do next season, the same as every season.
Before then I imagine that as this is a fans forum people will give their personal opinions on signings and perceived squad depth. Be an odd forum if that didn't happen.
If you are looking for facts from a manager about numbers and positions then I think you will be disappointed as that rarely happens and Jones has already been clear he won't give info like that.
Ricky Gervais just liked one of my tweets and all is right with the world even if we only have a squad to challenge for a 7 a side tournament.
Shame it wasn’t Ricky Gervais 😉
Thank you. I edited to delete the “e”. What was I thinking? I do, however, feel you have opened the door to some hard work, given the all pervasive grammatical kamikaze, chuck it at a fan spelling strategy and punctuation free zone that form large chunks of this forum. I look forward to seeing much more of your invaluable work.

True, he's never stated how many players he wants in & maybe he's happy with just the ones we've signed plus Mitchell, a GK and A.N.Other.
But if so its not enough & we will struggle massively. But all we can do is wait & see.
It is possible he doesn't want many more signings. We have:
I've not included the younger kids or people like Fraser who will likely go.
So that's already a 23 man squad when Mitchell signs. Assumption would be that we will definitely add a striker and then i guess we probably need a wide attacker/winger and an attacking midfielder.
Beyond that i can't see us signing anyone else unless a player leaves (like May). Highly unlikely we're going to be making another 5/6/7 signings, especially when Jones has previously said he wanted a smaller, more streamlined squad.

Edun I think will go and Ness, Asiimwe I can see going on loan. Or back ups/cup games . I still think we’ll bring in 7/8 players after the way Jones spoke about the squad at the end of the season . The hard part I think is moving on players

If this happens then not only would we be staying down but Jones’ many comments on the summer overhaul would be seen as nonsense.
Also with that 23 man squad wouldn’t a number not count due to age?

Wasn't referring to the squad size limit, i meant in terms of players that would be considered part of the first team squad. Jones said he wants a smaller squad so i don't see us starting the season with something like a 27-28 man squad.
I do agree that we need some better signings of course, but unless we can move a few on i don't see an influx of lots more new signings.

Jones said we'll be looking to bring in 2 GKs. Last season he talked about wanting a 25 man squad, 3 being GKs. I'm expecting a few departures too, so it's hard not to see there being at least one or two more joining after Mitchell, a new striker and another new GK.

Surely we need at least one extra midfielder as well. I'd argue 2 unless Anderson has an aribo esque coming of age this season.

one or two after Mitchell and we can forget about top 6 . We need atleast 6-8
I meant as a bare minimum Jones will want another GK, Mitchell, a new striker and a couple more, i.e. 5, but likely more on top of that, 6-8 as you say.
I think if May leaves then the below is a likely outcome in my opinion. Would mean 6 more in on top of Mitchell. The remaining pieces of the jigsaw are first teamers IMO and need to be top quality.
I am not NJ rates any of our CBs as none of them played much end of last season. Subject to fitness I think Sean Hutchinson for a year contract would be an astute move.
Leaburn. New
New. Kanu
New. Berry. New
Coventry. Campbell Anderson
Small Mitchell. New New Ramsey
Edwards REG. Jones Gillesphy Watson
New
Mannion
Other Squad = Aneke
To leave Perm = Isted, AMB, Edun, Fraser, Henry, Taylor
Cheers.

The pessimist in me says if Rotherham can bring players in why can't we. The optimist is that Jones has a bigger budget and can be nore selective.

Signed three players so no need to change the squad dramatically after last season's nonsense?!
About time the home page was changed on the OS, much as I like the Edwards pics and stuff, it is a little bit "yesterdays news" now, time for another signing me thinks...🙄

Tell me why
Mitchell will be confirmed .. next week we will see another keeper and striker coming in before team returns ( that’s without anyone leaving )
I find the timing of this new supporter meeting on 27th June very interesting. Almost as if they’re going to announce something they know we aren’t going to like in between the announcements of new players signing. I get the sense they’re looking to use this to justify their decisions. Maybe I am being sceptical, but would be ideal for them if we signed a few players early next week and it makes them look great. I just think the rumours/news of May could overwhelm the whole meeting.

Or they could be about to announce a few that they think will have us all praiding them. Yours is far more plausible.

Even assuming Edwards is better than Edun and Berry is better than Fiorini/ Bakinson , the squad isn’t any stronger, having lost Dobson.

There seems to be a fair few people with 'Football Manager' mentality.
If only signing players in the real world was as simple as that.
3 keepers
LB: Small, Edun, Edwards
CB: REG, Jones, Gillesphey, Mitchell, Ness
RB: Ramsay, Watson, Asiimwe
Midfield: Berry, Coventry, Anderson, Taylor
Wingers: Campbell
Strikers: May, Chuks, Leaburn, Kanu
I've not included the younger kids or people like Fraser who will likely go.

I do agree that we need some better signings of course, but unless we can move a few on i don't see an influx of lots more new signings.
Surely we need at least one extra midfielder as well. I'd argue 2 unless Anderson has an aribo esque coming of age this season.
First choice keeper
Mitchell (to be confirmed)
Another first choice CB
CM
CAM
Winger
Striker
+ A replacement for May if he goes.
I am not NJ rates any of our CBs as none of them played much end of last season. Subject to fitness I think Sean Hutchinson for a year contract would be an astute move.
