  • I also got the impression that a longer lease would also be desirable to them as it would offer security, as would a purchase.
It would be very surprising if they didn't want to extend the lease, because if they do manage to get up a division it will become a bigger and bigger issue.
Charlton being in a higher division would surely move Douchebag's price to an even more ludicrous level?  Timing the acquisition from that mad old bastard could be critical

Wasn’t we in The Championship anyway when he can up with the ridiculous figure of £50m?

The price becomes slightly less important in the Championship though. If we can become an established Championship team then we can be sold for much more and we become a more attractive proposition for potential buyers

    And a higher price.
This is where the doubts are for me......there can't be a better time to negoitiate on price than now or the next few (2-3) years, (unless you think we are going to be relegated).
Ultimately to get a good price you have to be prepared to walk away and set up a new Valley somewhere else.
Majority of fans will be against this but it's a card to hold in your hand. With years on the lease we have time to look elsewhere. Always fancied the massive hole next door to Bluewater, but that might be taken now?

Its a new estate called Ashmere, lots already occupied (My ex and my youngest) and lots of building still on going

I would say a high percentage of supporters did not experience the suffering of 85-92.
Consequently it could mean more than we think would not be too against leaving The Valley......again.
  • who in their right mind would want to go to a soulless bowl next to Bluewater?

A few would see it a "modern" and "what big clubs do" but most wouldn't  like it.

The one thing you don't want in a negotiation is to look desperate or that there's only one option.

So publically, the owners aren't going to say anything to give RD an edge like "we can't let the lease go under 10 years" or " we'll pay whatever price you want, we're loaded"

For example, the talk of moving to the Penisula was largely about putting pressure on the council to grant planning permission to extend the Valley (source P Varney).
