Just a reminder - a 14,000 crowd would mean the home stands were over 50% occupied. Looked more like 30% to me.
So if the home ends - which total around 24,000 - were 30% full that means ~8,000 in the home ends and, say, 1,700 in the away end (was impressed with their following). So in total something like 10,000 there today which felt right.
I was in the disabled section (had a knee op on Monday) down in the very south end of the West Stand and the attendance looked really bad from there:
More in the east stand than normal, I suppose that is where the free tickets were.
Gotta say, it looks closer to 24,000 on that evidence
24,000 freebies would be ridiculous, even by our standards!
Awful game, awful performance from the home side for 75% of it, a brief flurry of possession and a couple of half chances simply isn't good enough.
Never once did I think we were going to win it, completely ineffective as an attacking unit, nothing in midfield and lots of last ditch defending against a team who had lost 5 on the spin.
And someone has had their pants pulled down on the pitch. 1m for that? It's cutting up badly and is horrendously bobbly in places.
5/6 players required in January just to remain competitive.
I don't think we can afford to bring in one more player who doesn't know where the goal is in relation to their position. We have gone too long recruiting missers. Even if they are good players we are too short of goals through the team. We have been for years. We had a couple of players last season who scored above expectations for their positions and we sold them!!!!!
Trying to be positive after a very disappointing result. I thought Leaburn looked much sharper today than in recent games. Coventry plays more forward passes then he is given credit for on here, best pass of the match to send Small down the wing. Jones played OK but was knackered towards the end and is just finding his feet again (best player we have probably). Much better than the last 3 performances and it wasn't all long ball. Just trying to be positive. Ref was appalling, absolute penalty and I'd like to hear why he didn't give it.

In all honesty, he and his assistant on that side need to explain that to an assessor. It was a terrible decision. I thought a lot of refs would have given them a pen in the first half when the ball hit Anderson's hand but I think the ref can defend himself a bit on that one. I don't like the law and don't think there was intent to block the ball or make himself bigger but these are being given now. I'm not sure how he can explain away not giving the foul on Leaburn with any mitigation.
NJ: "Us and Birmingham are the best two pressers in the league so we are front-footed and going after teams. We're just not taking chances at the minute. I'm sure that will change. We're not capitalising on the clean sheets at the minute."
I thought that was a joke, just seen it’s a genuine quote.
Another turgid display. I’m finding it a lot easier to find a reason to stay at home on Boxing Day rather than turning up to watch more of the same we’ve been treated to over the past months. Watching the bubbles in my halftime pint certainly was more enjoyable than that first half.
How a group of professional football players, coaching staff and the club’s staff can dish these performances up and expect crowds to come each match is beyond me.
NJ must be watching something different to me if he thinks his team’s performances are anything other than below par. I don’t think sacking yet another manager would be the right thing to do. I’d give him one more transfer window and see what happens.
Bored, bored, bored. The only thing that brightened up the day was the sight of a massive blow up penis, being waved in the air by a fan in the away end,
Regretting not going now.
Still laugh when I remember the hyper/pissed/yayoed Donny fan, who bore his arse at our penalty taker (Conor Washington?) That was the best away end action ever.
No intention of winding anyone up here this is a genuine question asked because I don’t know the answer.
how wide is the skill gap between players in the premiership and league one ? I don’t mean the top premiership players I mean in general. im asking as we have players currently in our squad that only last season were playing in the premiership yet have so far totally failed to influence any of our games this season it’s not like they are past it etc ! Its very strange
Well Rosa enjoyed the atmosphere. She found the boos and jeering at the ref especially funny. Glad she doesn't understand the game yet. It was dire.
Also special thanks to the chap that nipped out to Chicken George is it? Grabbed Rosa some chips as she couldn't stomach the hot "food" options. Then wouldn't let us pay him for them. Absolute hero.
Same old. Boring, shit, pony, dull, turgid, lifeless, morbid, grim. Use any of those words to describe it.
The worst Charlton team I've ever seen. Worse than last season. At least Corey kept it interesting and we had the best striker in the league. Our attackers are a joke now.
Just want all the people associated to fuck off now, and hopefully someone else shows an interest. The only way is down with the current setup.
Over 1k will be at Northampton, and they don't fucking deserve it. Still Jones out, should be arrested tonight for football related terrorism.
It's the same old story. Broken record. No goals scored, no offence, drive or creativity up front. Goalless draws somehow being lauded as great achievements? And this bunch are being touted as promotion form winners..seriously? And I'm being asked to stump up dosh as an 'International Fan' to bear witness to this match after match dross? Sorry, no way.
Lets face it, league one is a poor quality league, because if we turned up these performances in the championship we would be getting done 5-0 most weeks. We are a lower mid table league one side with the attacking presence of Garfield after a lasagne.
With a manager who doesn't get it, I thought he would get it, but he doesn't.
Where we are, the way we play, the results, the lower standard of academy players being churned out, being part of the L1 furniture is simply unacceptable for Charlton Athletic Football Club and things have to change.
Andy Scott...go, Rodwell....go, Methven....go, Jones.....go.
Go, it hasn't worked, your 8+8+8 bollocks hasn't worked.....please go, owners, please make better decisions about who runs the football operation and save us from league one pergutory....or worse

But ............... Nathan said we could be in the top six by January, surely you could stick around until then ?
Mansfield seemed to have more method in their play than us. Luckily they missed at least three sitters in the first half, with Anderson fluffing our big chance. I think we miss Dobbo controlling our midfield. Better second half but far from great. I am puzzled that Coventry and Taylor are unable to create clear cut chances. Plus, most of Taylor's set pieces were poor today. The referee was even more dire than the action.
As long as we stay up I’ll be content, as I don’t think we are very good at all. First half was awful, second half was better as we were on the front foot.
Unless we really improve in January or when Aneke returns I expect we will be close to the relegation pack come the end of the season.

'Dobbo' was about the one thing we didn't miss. What we miss is creative attacking play, effective wingplay, effective finishing, hold up play, movement when a midfielder is on the ball and full back support. We didn't miss defensive midfielders who distribute calmly - we had two on for most of the game
Always thought this had the makings of 0-0, saddened to be proved correct, not at game but also saddened by proliferation of negative comments. What do people realistically expect when we have had years of poor ownership, current owners seem to have made some improvements but clearly the recruitment process is not on point at the moment. It seems to me improvement in style of football and league position cannot come until we have a better recruitment process, it seems likely Nathan Jones had too much influence on this in the closed season but as frustrated as I also am, firing him is probably not getting at the root of the problem, also an expensive option.

Seriously, what do you expect people to say? It’s absolutely fucking terrible and we are sliding towards the abyss.

I went with a friend to Arsenal v Liverpool u21s a couple of months ago. The gap in skill and quality compared to the appalling slop served up by most of League One, even at that level, was eye-opening.

Anderson should have put us 1-0 up after 5 mins. Nice move and he should have finished the one on one. Leaburn should have buried another one on one.
Mansfield missed two good chances which were criminal not hitting the target.
Draw was probably the correct result
