  • One point of concern is the quality of fist pumps by our reluctant heroes.

NJ to hold back TC and MG for personal training.
Probably thinking I’m fist pumping to hardly a soul our crowds and atmosphere should be on the up but I think years of watching under par football has stagnated attendances and atmosphere. Today I attended with a former season ticket holder who asked how long you played like this. About the last 6 home games I replied says where are we’ve been and where we need to go. The players must know how well they are and yet as a fan base we reluctant to believe imo

Very impressive in terms of strength and ball winning. and didn't allow them a moment's peace on the ball but Jesus....how bad were Exeter?! I'm struggling to think of a worse performance from a Charlton opposition (of course there have been many).

Anyway, lots of good performances and for once I find myself agreeing with the Manager. Well played Charlton.

  • Very straightforward in the end. 3-0 was kind to Exeter as they were never really in the game. Most of the big refereeing decision went to Exeter, as we could have had two pens.

Their manager made a sub after 28 mins and didn’t really make any noticeable difference.

Both Campbell & Anderson should have put us 2-0 much earlier than we eventually did.

Nice day at The Valley sitting in the light and having some nice weather. One of the big things this season is that we have followed up most of our worst performances with a win in the following match.

  • Interested to hear people’s opinions about the Goal Keeper injury tactic. Both teams utilised it today. Exeter in the first half and Charlton did in the second. Both occurred after the team had a spell of the game when the opposition was on top.

AMB also went down ‘injured’ in the first half against Stevenage.

Making us kick the wrong way they deserved to lose…suckers 👌
And chose to have their keeper staring into the sun. In keeping with their game-plan and "performance"
When they made that decision I thought, fair play to them. If was an away captain and won the toss, I'd switch ends too. I think on balance, that's a far better option than choosing to kick off or not. Then I saw their keeper struggling with the light and I was minded of Dick Emery's skinhead: "Dad, I got it wrong again".
Doncaster did that in the 2019 play-offs semi. Sun not an issue then of course, but they probably felt pretty silly when Kristian Bielik nodded in his goal after 3 minutes and the Valley, already rocking because it was full, went nuts.We all hate it when the away side does it, but it seems not to bother the players so much as it does us.

Berry has been doing a good job lately and his delivery for the first was excellent IMO.
    Yes, but that was it.
I think the same criticism could be labelled at Godden and Campbell in the first half but that doesn't take into account that because of Charlton's dominance, Exeter were in the main sitting with ten men in and around their own penalty area. They doubled up on Small and Mitchell was lucky not to see red for, what should have been two bookings, because he was losing the battle against Campbell. If I have a criticism, is that we didn't get enough shots in at the keeper but that's easier said than done when the penalty area is so congested.

It needs cutting out or introduce an official time out that each time can use once in a game.
Just ban teams from going to the sidelines, players have to wait in their positions. It’ll stop very quickly then.
Make them all go into the centre circle.  On the coaching thing, what was that with the Exeter manager yards out of his technical area in the ear of one of their players when he was about to take a throw?  Ref didn’t seem bothered

Not being to get to The Valley, a mate offered me a ticket to watch Plymouth Argyle v Cardiff today.

Cardiff went 1-0 up after only 12 minutes - and from then on, it was incessant fake injuries, theatricals and total shithousery to break up the flow of the game every few minutes. The weak referee did nothing to stop it. Ruined the game totally.

In 60 years of watching League football, I've never before seen anything like it to this extent.

How about the players cannot go over to the manager if the goalie goes down injured?
  • oops, didn't read WillmoreTheRed's comment! Great minds and all that.
  • Nothing to add about the team performance. It's all been said. So on a different tact, rare visit back to a very special place for me. Don't take it for granted. Its just so full of big big memories. Great day!!
Oh and it took me 2 hours less to get home  than it did from fkin huddesfield!!
  • Just thinking about tactics of opposing teams, I can understand Exeter starting with Magennis as the lone striker at the start, packing midfield and playing 5 at the back, earlier on in the season we really struggled with this defensive formation, and looked vulnerable to counter attacks,  but after going 1,2, then 3 nil down they continued with the same tactic!! Were they worried about their goal difference, in case of a relegation scrap? Surely after going one down, and the keeper fake injury, they should have put someone alongside Magennis. To be fair to him he won more flick ons than any forward I've seen at the Valley, but either Jones or Macca went tight to him, he won the header and the other centre half mopped up the resulting ball. It seemed clueless to me, and didn't change throughout the game.
I guess I shouldn't be concerned about the other teams tactics, but it is interesting to see other teams response to our improving form.

On journey's home, I had one of the worst, My train travelling down from Crewe was over half an hour late arriving into Euston, due to an ill passenger, then coming home a train with technical problems blocked the line and I arrived into Crewe nearly 50 mins late. Spent the time reading Match and Post Match comments, so it wasn't as painful as some journeys have been!!
