  • Nowt more I can add to what has already been said except it is just bloody great being an Addick again!
  • I also have another tactical insight about us!! I am a little concerned that Josh Edwards often gets exposed one on one with the opposing winger. He is a good full/wing back. but several times today there were no other Charlton defenders/ midfielders supporting him. I have always felt that to stop dangerous crosses coming into the box, you should generally have two defenders against one. We tend to have that down the other side of the pitch with the Ramsay/Small combination, but who is Edwards support player? I don't really want to see Macca dragged out of the center, so should it be Tyreece, but I don't want to see him lose his attacking threat. Josh often deals with the situation, but a couple of times crosses did come in, and against more potent opposition this may be an issue.
Perhaps Jones thinks its risk and reward, but it is a concern for me.

Most controlled game I've seen all season won most battles all over the park and seemed In second gear tbh, promising stuff.
  • Not the greatest game in terms of the football played, but a very good all round performance and a comfortable win.

It was a very good turnout from the Exeter fans. A long way to travel for such a poor performance from your team, a bit like us in the reverse fixture.

I don't usually comment on the player marks, but @Viewfinder is extremely hard to please! Perhaps someone spilt your beer before the game or something?

Big couple of games coming up away at Orient and Stockport.
  • I thought we played some lovely football at times. Good technical skills, overlapping runs, quick balls into the box, all of these were on show and they certainly haven't been for the whole season.

If we can keep this up and maybe increase the consistency of the tempo we will be formidable opponents.

Usually, you would see Doc going across to make the extra man. Anderson had a great game, but maybe doesn't have the discipline (yet!) to cover all threats that come our way.

Interested to hear people’s opinions about the Goal Keeper injury tactic. Both teams utilised it today. Exeter in the first half and Charlton did in the second. Both occurred after the team had a spell of the game when the opposition was on top.

AMB also went down ‘injured’ in the first half against Stevenage.
Not being to get to The Valley, a mate offered me a ticket to watch Plymouth Argyle v Cardiff today.

Cardiff went 1-0 up after only 12 minutes - and from then on, it was incessant fake injuries, theatricals and total shithousery to break up the flow of the game every few minutes. The weak referee did nothing to stop it. Ruined the game totally.

In 60 years of watching League football, I've never before seen anything like it to this extent.

    Even worse than Blackpool?

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon yesterday. Ramsay’s been my favourite player since virtually game one. Player of the season for me, no contest. (Then Jones, then maybe Coventry?) I loved the way he held off two Exeter players, and then smashed that fantastic pass for Leaburn’s goal. Great bit of skill from Leaburn as well!
Good to see the new signings on the pitch together for the first time. They could both play a role in the latter part of the season.
I was expecting a tougher game if I’m honest. Exeter are very inconsistent but decent on their day, and we never let them get a foothold in the game. The one time they broke into our penalty area two Charlton players came flying across for the block. I think the ball hit Gillesphey, and ballooned up for Mannion to catch. Proper bodies on the line stuff.
Jones has got them playing in the way we hoped they could, oh yeah.
  • So great having Godden and Leaburn in form, and that NJ is happy to use them both when needed. Chuks is becoming less and less needed as an impact sub.

I think it must be in Nathan Jones mind and Chuk's that Chuk's will not be here at seasons end and both parties have priorities, Chuk's will want to earn a contract somewhere and in fairness to him, he would want to remain fit to achieve that contract and most of Chuk's injuries are long term. With that in mind, Nathan Jones must consider what level of commitment he would get from a player in that situation, it's not a nice thing to say because I can't doubt Chuk's commitment over the years but it's modern day football and it's where we are.
  • Leaburn does not look a happy chappy. Just frustration at not starting or a sign that he doesn’t really want to be here anymore. He looked good when came on and took his goal well but his general demeanor in recent weeks appear to suggest he’s ready to move on?

Remarkable set of results above us yesterday with the top two both drawing and the teams in the playoff places all losing. What odds would you have got for that happening?!
Only downside was the four wins and a draw for the teams below us. An extraordinary set of results really.
[Edit: Wrexham didn't play yesterday - they play today. They lost on Tuesday.]

Agreed it's extraordinary, although to note Wrexham loss was Tuesday night. They are playing today against Mansfield.

    Yes, Wrexham lost on Tuesday.
Mansfield have the honour (lol) of playing them today, and sadly they only have one point from last six matches :-(

  • On the drive to the match, I predicted a 3-0 victory, with Leaburn coming on and getting the third, but earmarked Godden for a brace. Great game. Is this really the same squad that lost to Crawley?
Imagine being an Exeter player, doubling up on Small, only to see Ramsey charging towards them. The inclusion of Karoy had me scratching my head, then he puts in his best game in a red shirt. Did have a chuckle when he got booked for kicking the ball away, only to point out to the ref that the ball was on the centre spot. All topped of with a nice warm spring day.

The only slight downside to the day was Bolton winning, as I was hoping for a draw from that game.

If Miles is really “unhappy” based on nothing more than his facial expression on camera, what does this tell us about the mental state of Jay Stansfield?

If there is one thing Miles might be justifiably “unhappy” about it would be the torrent of ignorant bollocks writtten about him by some people on here during the autumn. Hopefully he never bothers to come on here.
Hope he is not mates with Alan Nixon who gets all his information from this forum.
  • Two fantastic goals from Academy graduates, really hoping we can keep up this level of performance. A sea change from the last few years.
  • It could be my memory, but I never remember Miles having huge goal celebrations, think they've always been quite subdued.

Plenty of smiles from him after the final whistle! And joining in the with ribbing and pushing TC forward.

It reminds me of the person who said that Miles didn't look happy, and didn't really celebrate after his brace against Wycombe.

This was after him throwing himself into the fans after his 2nd...
Great, I’m very happy to be corrected. Cheers - I really like him and hope he can get more game time. Hard to change a winning team tho.
  • Excellent performance. Very comfortable from start to finish. Ramsey is a championship player with Jones back in the team it’s no surprise that we are looking very good defensively. Now is the time for Miles to hit the form that he showed in December as we go into the run in.  Great finish. The way we are playing I don’t fear anyone in the play off positions.

Looking forward to Orient next Saturday.
