Great win and I’m pretty sure we’ll make the play off final and lose on penalties , we’ve used all our lifetime’s worth of play off final luck up in 1987-1998-2019
it’s unbelievable how we have one from so piss poor to absolutely rock solid and good , a transformation that I didn’t think was possible .
going in to games expecting a result now is an unfamiliar feeling , long may it continue !
You are forgetting us getting knocked out of play-offs by Palace and Shrews, so it’s not all been plain sailing ……..
Don’t forget Swindon…… that one still hurts.
    Yes !!!

    Forgot about that

Impressed by us, but Exeter were pretty poor. It was nice of them to play Josh Magennis's old slower brother instead yesterday. Only player of theirs that I thought was any good was their 21 Trevitt - I have just looked him up and see he is a Brentford loanee.
I didn't even notice Magennis until well into the second half (old habits die hard ;)).  The only players of theirs I noticed were for the wrong reasons. Nissanen had already been yellow carded by the time he was subbed off, after just 31 minutes. Surely only MacDonald can have had a worse day, scoring an own goal only to follow it up five minutes later with a nasty spank in the nuts.
  • Wonder what the squad will be at Wembley…🤔
  • Winners?
  • who did the assist for Miles's goal, I think it was Small but not sure
    Ramsey I think
Definitely Ramsay. The highlights clipped the build up unfortunately, as I think Ramsay had to battle to get into the position to play the pass.
  • I can understand the optimism after another comfortable home win yesterday, but looking at the remaining games I still think the odds are slightly against us making the Play-Offs. 8 of the last 14 are away including trips to 4 of the current top 6 starting on Saturday. All of the teams above have better away records than us so we have to improve on that to make it. Hope I'm wrong.

  • Played really well today everyone contributed, what was the booking non booking all about.
Ref thought Karoy kicked the ball away to delay a restart - not realising that there was already another ball on the centre spot and KA was just trying to get the extra one off the pitch.
Didn’t see that.  How does a ref signal that he has cancelled a yellow card?
They usually show the yellow card again, and then wave their arms, similar to how they occasionally signal that they've seen a challenge in the penalty area, but arent giving it.
Thanks, don’t think I have ever seen that happen before.
Doesn't happen very often, but an example is the Lewis-Skelly red card in the Premier League today.

He initially got a Yellow Card, referee goes and looks at VAR, realises its a Red Card, but before he can give the red card he's got to signal he's withdrawing the initial yellow.
And how does he signal? The Arsenal are going to throw their toys out of the pram until they get the red card overturned?
  • 0.25%     Top 2
    59.75%      Play offs
    40%     7th-12th

best price I’ve seen 11/10 sky bet

Predicted 3-0 and feel we will be hard to beat for the rest of the season.
Stockport and Huddersfield are eminently catchable.
We could scupper Orient next week.

Play offs now more likely than not
Sorry @ForeverAddickted but you're missing an easy kill here.

He won the ball in the first place with a superbly timed tackle.

I thought it was a great performance. But I do not understand the love for Berry. One good cross and one terrible corner, and , as Leuth says on the players' scores, 'a lot of hiding'. Yet he is being given the same score as Coventry and higher than Small and our clean sheet defenders.
    Go figure!
And he is given a standing ovation by some when going off!
Could somebody name one stand out pass, tackle or any other contribution to today's game. I genuinely want to know.

He came bottom of the outfield players and generally does (or not far off).
  • Brilliant day and brilliant result. Superb individual performances from all over the pitch. We are looking in fine shape on the pitch and there are some seriously exciting things happening off it.

Anderson really stepped up. Away at Orient I think there is every chance that with Doc back, Karoy slots in for Berry.

If we do make the playoffs, nobody will fancy playing us.
What are the seriously exciting things happening off the pitch?
    Lookman returning?
  • Leaburn does not look a happy chappy. Just frustration at not starting or a sign that he doesn’t really want to be here anymore. He looked good when came on and took his goal well but his general demeanor in recent weeks appear to suggest he’s ready to move on?
If Miles is really “unhappy” based on nothing more than his facial expression on camera, what does this tell us about the mental state of Jay Stansfield?

If there is one thing Miles might be justifiably “unhappy” about it would be the torrent of ignorant bollocks writtten about him by some people on here during the autumn. Hopefully he never bothers to come on here.
Hope he is not mates with Alan Nixon who gets all his information from this forum.
How very dare you! Admittedly there is some utter guff posted on here at times, but nothing of Nixon's level, unless we're quoting him.

FFS you’ve just made me realise I totally messed up that CharltonLife in-joke. It was meant to be in reference to Peter O’Rouke who Prague tarred with the same brush as Nixon.
  • I was reading about  an asteroid that might hit the earth in 2030. Finally the return of the ball from Nicky Bailey’s penalty?
    It’s 2032 I believe.
  • Interested to hear people’s opinions about the Goal Keeper injury tactic. Both teams utilised it today. Exeter in the first half and Charlton did in the second. Both occurred after the team had a spell of the game when the opposition was on top.

AMB also went down ‘injured’ in the first half against Stevenage.
It needs cutting out or introduce an official time out that each time can use once in a game.
Yes but someone (ahem Steve Bruce) would likely still do both and the "trend" would continue.

Not being to get to The Valley, a mate offered me a ticket to watch Plymouth Argyle v Cardiff today.

Cardiff went 1-0 up after only 12 minutes - and from then on, it was incessant fake injuries, theatricals and total shithousery to break up the flow of the game every few minutes. The weak referee did nothing to stop it. Ruined the game totally.

In 60 years of watching League football, I've never before seen anything like it to this extent.

You couldn't have seen Charlton v Blackpool earlier this season.

    Bet it will miss!
  • Just thinking about tactics of opposing teams, I can understand Exeter starting with Magennis as the lone striker at the start, packing midfield and playing 5 at the back, earlier on in the season we really struggled with this defensive formation, and looked vulnerable to counter attacks,  but after going 1,2, then 3 nil down they continued with the same tactic!! Were they worried about their goal difference, in case of a relegation scrap? Surely after going one down, and the keeper fake injury, they should have put someone alongside Magennis. To be fair to him he won more flick ons than any forward I've seen at the Valley, but either Jones or Macca went tight to him, he won the header and the other centre half mopped up the resulting ball. It seemed clueless to me, and didn't change throughout the game.
I guess I shouldn't be concerned about the other teams tactics, but it is interesting to see other teams response to our improving form.

On journey's home, I had one of the worst, My train travelling down from Crewe was over half an hour late arriving into Euston, due to an ill passenger, then coming home a train with technical problems blocked the line and I arrived into Crewe nearly 50 mins late. Spent the time reading Match and Post Match comments, so it wasn't as painful as some journeys have been!!
But 2 X delay replay compensation claims.

    Recent weeks?
    He's looked unhappy all season.
Why have a few people only noticed 4 months later?

Late to the post match and not much to add, comfortable from start to finish. Lets face it, they never intended to come and play and once we went 1-0 up it was pretty much damage limitation football from Exeter.

2 well taken individual goals, nice to see Leaburn doing the sort of things hes always been able of producing, before demanding he starts would keep him coming off the bench, hes still young and finding his feet in the game and much like Karoy (superb performance) coming into a confident winning side is better.*

Berry has played well, hes been a mainstay since the change over in football and contributed to the fine form, hes scored and assisted along the way, he suffers from a touch of the Ahadme's where expectation outweighs his plus points, and at any rate, agreeing with the resident Edgelord is hardly proof of ability.

Dominant, 3 goals, 3 points - still in the mix!

Special mentions to TC and Leaburn for their goals

Karoy for a superb performance after not starting for a while

    Ramsay for being Ramsay.

*On that subject, would like to see Ahadme come in for Chuks, seems a bit pointless having him on the bench now, we have enough to NOT be chasing a game and need the (sorry but ineffective now) battering ram form the bench, given Ahadmes start a  few late sub appearances similar to how Karoy and Leaburn have been used recently may give the lad some personal confidence and half a chance of doing something with the "new" Jones way of playing.
