  • I spoke earlier about releasing the likes of Key, Harmy and possibly Nash at the end of the season and Harmy's performance in this game does nothing to change that.

His average this season in the CC is a little over 27 from 23 innings. His career average isn't much better than that at 29 and yet he is our number 3.
  • Surely Harmison's time as a professional cricketer is up?

I can not only take wickets on here but also read great minds ;-)

Can see this being a two day game.

He was our number five but moved to three to accommodate Northeast's loss of form earlier in the season.

Sam has benefited from the move and Ben has bobbled along in his own way averaging under 30. If he could get his bowling back meaningfully in the four day game we could live with that but as things stand I have to reluctantly agree with you.

Reluctantly because I think he's a grafter who gives of his best and I like to see grafters succeed in life.

well I used to live down her road......
  • Sadly I don't think Harmy will ever be good enough as an all rounder.

On the subject of all rounders, I did notice that D B-D bowled the other day in a one day match and also for his Club last weekend. I might have this totally wrong but I have at the back of my mind that D B-D used to be a serious all rounder but was told, as a result of a medical condition, that he wouldn't be able to bowl for three years.

As I say that could be a load of old tosh but if he were to turn into an all rounder then that really would strengthen the line up.

Looking for evidence regarding this assertion I stumbled across the below match winning performance from D B-D (Adam Ball was in the side too):

    espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/435842.html

Wonder whatever happened to D B-D's opening partner?

73-3. Given the shared vicinity I would suggest that you both go for a DNA test because you are both blessed with bringing us bad luck ;-(

Team switched off after losing that One Day Cup semi final?

    Stevens gone for 17
  • Team switched off after losing that One Day Cup semi final?

Quite possibly so. And it might just be that two or three of them know that they will be leaving in a couple of weeks time.

Pretty pathetic display again whatever the reason.

    Absolutely pathetic display.

I'm not sure what the contract situation is but I'm inclined to aim at keeping Stevens as the main "old head" and try and build around Bell-Drummond, Northeast, Cowdrey, Billings and Riley. Claydon, Haggett and Ball probably deserve to stay and then aim for an overseas batter and quickie. We'd then keep one of Key, Nash or Harmison as our frontline 12. Nash, just about, would probably be my choice.

If the pot won't run to two overseas players then go for the batter and hope that one of Griffiths, Hunn or Hartley develops sufficiently to become a regular alongside Claydon. Maybe also keep Harmison as he can on occasion do a job in white ball cricket with the ball as we have seen this season.

Kent are as poor as they have ever been during my 50 odd years of following them.

Can't beleive it, major change is required to that horrendous batting line up which keeps failling to impress in four day cricket.? an overseas batting all rounder is desperately needed.

a couple of quick bowlers are needed as well, claydon on his day is good but the rest are poor, we fail to bowl teams out twice.

Having Balcombe back from hampshire would be a lovely signing
  • I feel like I am breaking the news that the Titanic has sunk but we have lost - by 9 wickets.

Hunn bowled 5 wides in that total too although he did take the wicket in fairness.
