Tony Watt to join Cardiff on loan (EDIT: Joined Until 16th January, Perm Deal Rumoured)

It defies belief that we'd offer him to a relegation rival2

Yes, but if he were playing to his potential he would be a real asset, and ultimately the job of a coach (even an interim one) is to coach his players to perform at their full potential. If it was just one bad apple then you'd say "best rid of him" but there are far, far too many players not performing to their potential at Charlton right now.Chris_from_Sidcup said:cafctom said:So what happens when Reza 'gets the hump' again and wants to go the Middle East for a year like he did before?
When Makienok gets injured, or goes back to Palermo in the Summer?
When Lookman gets sold, or simply needs a rest as he is still so fresh to it all?
Or when Vaz Te decides to go somewhere else in the Summer after his contract?
Going by his ipswich performance, i'm sure we wouldn't miss him too much.
We are weaker without a fully firing Watt.1 -
Oh yes it is! And I had that problem as well mate when we run out of toilet papersoapboxsam said:Seeing Lennon's quote in the SL that Tony Watt was offered to Bolton before
Cardiff but because they are Potless, they couldn't afford the derisory sum on offer.
WTF ! why would you offer a player who can be a match winner,
to one of the few clubs who are below us in the table.
If Magic feet is a problem, why can't we have a grown up answer like
"it is in the best interests of Tony and the club if he moves on.
We wish him well in his future Career"
It really isn't that difficult to have a relationship with the supporters

Was it an easy comment by Lennon to deflect criticism away from himself and his team?
He was Tony Watt's manager at Celtic and rated him so highly, that he loaned him out and eventually sold him to S.L.1 -
This is what Lennon said of Watt at the time:JohnfromNorfolk said:Was it an easy comment by Lennon to deflect criticism away from himself and his team?
He was Tony Watt's manager at Celtic and rated him so highly, that he loaned him out and eventually sold him to S.L.
Neil Lennon on Friday night insisted he has no plans to cut short Tony Watt’s loan spell in Belgium.
The striker came off the bench to score twice in Lierse’s 3-0 derby triumph over Mechelen on Boxing Day.
Ironically, Watt’s brace saved the job of coach Stanley Menzo, a public and vocal critic of the Scot’s attitude, fitness and training.
Responding to suggestions Watt could save the Hoops’ boss cash by returning to Glasgow early, however, Lennon warned that’s not an option.
He said: ‘I’ll speak to Tony over the next week or so, see how he is feeling and what the situation is.
‘But I’m not of a mind to bring him back just yet. We’ve loaned him for the year and I’d like him to see that one out.
‘We couldn’t put him out on loan anywhere else if he does come back, so that’s not crossed my mind.’
‘There’s an immaturity about Tony and the reason for putting him on loan was to see life at a different place,’ added Lennon.
‘We wanted him to sample a different culture and a different type of football. If it’s not going well, then he needs to knuckle down and make it work. The onus is on him.
‘I wasn’t aware of these problems [with Menzo] and I’ll need to speak to his agent over the next few days.
‘He can be a difficult boy at times but there’s no malice in him or anything like that. He just needs to knuckle down and make the most of the opportunity he has. When he’s finished, he will still be part of our plans for the future.
‘There’s no question that Tony has ability. He’s raw and just needs to polish it off a bit — and polish himself off as a fully-rounded figure. He definitely has ability.
‘He’s not a man yet. Some players take a bit longer to mature than others. Not physically, that’s in a mental aspect as well. But Tony is a good kid.’

Cardiff City looking to sign Charlton loan star Tony Watt permanently in January alongside another striker
Sources at the club say the Bluebirds’ hierarchy are already impressed and looking to sign Watt in January. Charlton are believed to want around £1m for the player who has fallen out of favour in south London.
Noticed on the goal highlights on Sky tonight, Cardiff should have won when Watt ran into the penalty area with the ball, and instead of passing to a colleague unmarked for a certain goal, tried to do it himself and lost it. Never a team player1 -
Spot on. Sometimes it's a bit like reading the headline on the front page of the daily mail on here "warning: too much fresh air will kill you......"Lincsaddick said:
I can no more see into the future than you can .. a lot depends on results this season and the type of contract the player has .. BigMak started well but seems now to lack the bottle for the fight .. Vaz Te is on a short deal .. Reza and Lookman ? .. I have no idea .. BUT .. as I repeat ad nauseum, I've seen worse times than this .. the club will not go under and quite frankly all this doom mongering is getting VERY boring ... players come and players go .. we will see, getting your knickers in a terrible twist will change nothing and will only be bad for your health ..cafctom said:

So you think any of those four strikers we have are highly likely to be sticking around next season then?3 -
Cardiff City are confident of keeping Charlton striker Tony Watt beyond his loan deal, BBC Wales Sport understand.
Watt, 21, has scored twice in five appearances since joining from Charlton on a deal due to expire on 16 January.
Senior sources now say a deal is in place for the former Celtic striker to make a permanent switch to Cardiff.0 -
Another nail in our coffin methinks1

he's gone, he aint coming back .. the issue is just how much we'll get for him and will that fee be used to buy some desperately needed experience and quality, even for the short term, to get us out of this mess
EDIT: Reports that Chas Austin will be sold in January .. get him in Roland .. if only1 -
It'll probably be 1Mill (undisclosed). Be a good deal for them even if they can only get an honest season out of him.1
-
Another half truth for the regime.....not ad verbatim but it was something like -" we sent him out to get game time, and yes I hope to see him back here after 16th January, we will see what happens" or in other words "no he is not coming back we are selling him as we have a good squad and don't need him"
What a joke we have become...no strikers of experience, injuries, loss of form etc. etc..... and we move him on....unbelievable!!6 -
for how long is his CAFC contract ? .. I would have thought a million is a bit light .. but if the owner is desperate to get him off the books !!! .. who knowsAtletico Addick said:It'll probably be 1Mill (undisclosed). Be a good deal for them even if they can only get an honest season out of him.

well then .. if we play 'hard ball' more than a million could be squeezed out especially as Cardiff is desperate for promotion .. they have recalled Revell from his loan at Wigan, this is a symptom of their desperation, Le Fondre and Jones rarely last the full 90, any club looking for real success needs at least four robust strikers.. lastly, Cardiff is a wealthy club .. let's see the colour of their cash .. 3 million for Watt or find someone elseAtletico Addick said:

Our bigger problems are at the back. Ideally we'd have both Watt and reinforcement to central defence and midfield, but the latter is more important3

Sounds good when you say it out loud Lincs, but it isn't really very likely is it?Lincsaddick said:

We're in no real position to play that game though unfortunately, Russell Slade and co. know exactly why we've offloaded him and know we want the cash - he won't simply squeeze back into our team. Don't imagine us getting more than 1.5m, unfortunately. But it shouldn't really sadden us, less money for RD suits me in one roundabout way...Lincsaddick said:

I'm sure whatever we get for Watt, RD will benefit from the deal. Even more so if it is more than we "paid" for him.0

Watt's relationship with senior members of the squad was beyond repair. On this one it sounds like the right decision.6

People need to remember in jan we would have no need for old ton anyway.
We have super George coming back2 -
Attach a fair weight of probability to what @Rob62 posts LL3
-
Given he has lamped at least a couple of senior players in the last few months he's well & truly burned his bridges so I don't think he's going to be coming back, unfortunately.0

Because people who are closer to it and know about it have told you / us so.lancashire lad said:

Can we really have a situation where players who aren't liked within the squad are kicked out. Managing a team is about dealing with personalities and making them work together for the benefit of the club. Player power cannot be allowed to dismiss managers or fellow players. I wonder how our players would cope with someone like Cloughie as their manager.2
