***Jose Riga... New Charlton Manager (again)***

Looking a Riga's record with Blackpool, despite what he had to work with, his teams were never thumped by the opposition
- Only twice did they concede three goals, against Reading and Norwich
- Only twice more did they ever lose by more than a one goal difference
- They drew against Brighton / Wolves / Middlesbrough
- They beat Cardiff
Yes he lost the majority of his matches (which ultimately will be remembered the most for @ Blackpool) but his side was always in the match it seems, unlike Charlton who this season have lost 3-0 (or more) more times than I can count3 -
Who is going to be his assistant. I hope it is not a bloke called Mortis.12

Four consecutive defeats !!!! What the feck do they know. I dream of abject.The Red Robin said:From Facebook:

That we're not stranded already suggests there are a few other teams out there just as bad as us, we might not even need 7 wins, it really depends on how bad our relegation rivals aremid_life_crisis said:Minimum 7 wins needed out of 20 games to have any chance. We have 4 wins from 26 so far.
Better start scouring the fixture list Jose!2 -

Our manager having a meeting with our CEO is now headline news.
Only fact of interest seems to be that de Corte was there but Euell wasn't.0 -
Bolton / Rotherham / Preston (who arent really a relegation Candidate at the moment) all away
Milton Keynes Dons / Bristol City to come at home...
Straight away not easy, what helped Riga was the fact that last time out, the majority of his matches were at the Valley (and against relegation rivals)0 -

I like Scott Tracy of Thunderbirds and would prefer him as head coach to Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men or Bagpuss but they are all puppets.
Time to get rid of the Clangers and introduce some degree of basic professionalism, on and off the pitch.

I've heard it could be the CAFC ladies coach ?pettgra said:Who is going to be his assistant. I hope it is not a bloke called Mortis.
The wizard of the dribble Paul Mortimer.
So RigaMorts, it is !

I'll take that with a pinch of salt to be honest, he got us playing tidy passing football last time, get that right, lose the ball less, less pressure on DF and GK, More chances to score hopefully and less need to rely on defence... also hopefully.The Red Robin said:From Facebook:

Of the 20 games he's got the opening 8 are all matches he could get something from. But: the final 10-12 are hugely difficult. My guess is that we could think we're out of it by the end of March and then be looking at relegation (again) in May.ForeverAddickted said:Looking a Riga's record with Blackpool, despite what he had to work with, his teams were never thumped by the opposition

On the positive side our squad today is stronger than 2013-14 and there is still time to strengthen it further.
Let's hope he can work miracles.1 -
Once we get past Hull (and Blackburn because they always beat us) we could actually go on a decent run... We need to as like you say, unless we're not already clear of Relegation come April, we're going to be sucked straight back in
- Ipswich / QPR / Bolton are places we rarely win
- Derby / Brighton we've got a good record against at the Valley but they wont afford to drop points
- Burnley I'd write off, dont think I've seen us beat them0 -

And Harriot....is he actually in charge tomorrow or is it WDC/JE in the hot seat.Rob said:He was treated appallingly before. Hopefully he will ignore the back room idiots and work well with the players to get us out of this mess. Jacko was his captain before so that bodes well. He also got Cousins and Poyet ticking.

If—
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man(ager)my son!
I know it's a bit Dave Basset, but when you read the words! Good luck Riga your gonna need it.1 -
Good luck Jose - if you keep us up you'll be a true Charlton hero.0

If we don't concede a goal in the 44th min then he will have been a success.0

"I know it's a bit Dave Basset, but when you read the words! Good luck Riga your gonna need it."
IF IF IF IF Tucadean had scored that goal against the Spanners, Peeters would still be here.
One of my favourite poems by Mr Kipling, even if some people think he's a bit of a tart.
Hartley Pete ? Do you mean Mike Basset Ex England manager ?
Or Fred Basset who was like a dog with a bone.
You can't mean Dave/Harry Basset as there's no swear words!1 -

I am interested in exactly who will be the backroom staff.
I have never heard of Wim and I just hope he is an awful lot better than my image of a chap called Wim.
I assume they are both talking so he can update matters as to the state of things as he sees them and that Riga is letting him know how he wants things done tomorrow.
One would hope that Wim then departs to make room for more suitable support staff. I am intrigued as to who they maybe. Or was her ladyship there to say 'you are it. Go and win matches for me'.0 -
He's got 20 games, 10 home, 10 away, to get, say, 28 points (that would take us to 48).
We have 14 points at home so far, a paltry 6 away.
Normally, you'd think we might need to win at least 6 out of 10 at home.

He's going to need some decent signings and/or a major bounce effect. You can pick out the 6 pointers or the possible inconsistent mid-table opposition with little to play for. At the moment, it looks like a terrible tough run-in at home.1 -

To have any chance under Jose we have to stop shipping goals, the problem is we just don't have the quality or unity at the back to provide the base for the smash and grabs we used to get under CP. Neither do we have that midfield that works their socks off to provide chances for our 'strikers'.
I'm going tomorrow and I really, really hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid the glass is starting to become half empty. Somebody convince me otherwise please0 -
Oh dear. I look at that picture and the thing that leaps out at me is that we had some characters in the squad then, some fighters.GoOnYouHaddocks said:Well it was a crazy ride last time...
