Labradors, German Shepherds & Dogs.....

This Staffy came to me at my paddock three weeks ago with its owner telling me he's unwalkable and 2 "trainers" had refused to work with him one even suggesting he was pts as he is dangerous! Three weeks later his dog is walking week on the lead, will walk with me to heel off the lead and is taking part in Agility (not perfect I know) but addressing one or two issues with the dog and five or six issues with his handler, Staffy's get a bad press but they are fast becoming a favourite (2nd) of mine. Owners that put the work will get it back in bundles.......

With huge disposable income available to people these days it's easy to forget these Puppies need work. That cute bundle of fluff grows into (in my dogs case) 40+ kgs of hard graft. It's not just a case of laying down the cash and the jobs done, hours of work goes into training and that's mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. You hear it all the time, the puppy chewed this or that or it barks all day when we are at work. Simple reason is the dogs are bored, so they entertain theirselves it's no different to a child getting up to mischief. That little ball of fun is 10/15 years of comitment.

You're so right @TCE the first programme is honest about, for example, how much you can expect to pay to keep a small/medium/large dog for one year, how much exercise they need per day, grooming etc.
Hopefully will take rose-tinted glasses from some people and help them make wise decisions about the right breed for them, what to watch for from breeders and lots of other stuff.
I've had a few dogs in my life but learnt (relearnt?) stuff from this first prog and was surprised by some things too, including which dogs shed more than others

Strangely enough this popped up on FB this morning, JJ as a puppy. That beautiful bundle of fluff has grown into huge but still beautiful almost fully grown bear of a dog.

Myself and the wife are thinking of getting a Border Terrier in a few years time and reading up on everything at the mo. This thread has been brilliant, even as a non-dog owner at present.

I'm not ashamed to say I had a bit of a tear in my eye at the end of the programme. There really are some complete w**kers in this world.

Hi guys was some on CL asking about a young rescue. We have a 16 week old puppy taken to the vet to be PTS fortunately the vet refused. If it was on here or someone is interested let me know.

Our Bailey working with other dogs, a particularly bouncy Labrador being taught by myself and my boy to walk correctly, an Border Collie realising he's not actually as tough as he thought. It is D and he's a stunning boy, but no way is he going amongst the Upbeats he's too flakey. He's a bloody good display dog But thats it. but I'm hoping to use my little girl who comes home saturday to take his place and be alongside Bailey with the Upbeats. Maybe we can sort something before she gets to big.

Not at all FF, with other commitments for me and the dogs, I could do all the notice possible. Hopefully our new girl will be some sort of standard by then and we can bring all four up for a display/meet. She settled well yesterday and went to a puppy party today, expecting good things from this girl

We visited a local school a week or so back with our four dogs who did a little display despite the heat which restricted what we did.......
