Will Trump become President?

  • Donald Trump - Displays what is wrong with the people.
Hilary Clinton - Displays what is wrong with the establishment.

Americans historically love a conspiracy theory and as such have voted against the establishment.

It has been confirmed by Bloomberg and the Associated Press

Wow. Just when you think Americans can't get any more stupid...

I got flagged for this comment twice, but bloody hell they have voted for Trump.
Really you couldn't make it up
  • What do you do that prevents you from being undercut by Romanians, whilst others are not able to GJ?
Is that a genuine question or a veiled dig....
  • Clinton concedes
  • All fair enough, but as a member of the silent majority you still have responsibility to think about the consequences of your lashing out against the system, because otherwise, one day, somewhere, the silent majority will vote in a genuine despot and who knows where that might end.
I'm not sure if you're suggesting I'm part of the silent majority?

I'm fortunate enough that I work in an industry, and an area, that has absolutely flourished under the Tory and Coalition governments. I have no anger there.

Whilst I have convictions behind what I say, convictions strong enough that I'm prepared to speak up even when it's not popular. A week after Brexit I was in Berlin, and was constantly having to defend my decision to vote out. I did so safe in the knowledge that I was confident in my choice, and did so without believing any of the bollocks we were promised. (To be honest, my reasoning was actually surprisingly left wing! ;)) No doubt I'll probably have similar discussions in Dublin next week.

I understand completely what you mean though; but I find it difficult to blame people who genuinely feel like they have no representation and have one chance for change. Of course they're going to take it.
  • Clinton has now conceded.

I know and I thought that was ridiculous. People can flag all they like, it doesn't change the fact.

Your industry's booming? I thought the fucking gyppo cunts from Romania, the Slavs, the fucking Eastern Menace had decimated it? At least you're getting political representation from men of the fucking people Farage and Trump, men of great conscience and notions of social equality. What sort of shakeup did you have in mind? Death camps for Muslims?
Doesn't seem to be letting me post my full answer to this.

  • Hilary concedes by phone. Ho hum.
  • Trouble for is, he's not even half the businessman he claims to be.

Trump is a failed businessman given all his bankruptcies - he is a terrifying character.
He says he is worth 10 billion dollars. Forbes say it is nearer 3.5 and that he is involved in at least 500 businesses. Many of them will fail - that is the nature of being a businessman at that end.

So, if the definition of being a successful businessman is net worth, he is a "success". But a liar and loathsome character too - but then a lot of "businessman" are. But they also recognise that there are times when they have to compromise in order to get that business. And he will have to do just that.

Totally unrelated but I hear that Simon Cowell is hoping to run for PM.

  • Hopefully this means people will stop talking about the bullshit that Nate Silver calls "probability".

To be fair to him he was WAY more cautious of a Trump victory than just about any other pollster (including, I suspect, those within the Trump campaign).

    Maybe so.

But... Whatever those numbers were, they were not probability in any sense.

Sorry to hear about your concerns with healthcare. Hopefully you can find a way of keeping the protection.
  • In a way, I kind of feel happy for those that voted for Trump because they must be proper disillusioned to be pushed into voting for that nutcase.

The fact of the matter is that Clinton is, and always was, a weak candidate. After getting the nomination sorted via her pals at the DNC, she inspired precisely no-one. Her campaign got twisted into "don't vote for the bad man" instead of focusing on real issues and that failed to convince the public that she wasn't a weak candidate.

The candidate who would've beaten Trump in all this was Bernie Sanders. Such a missed opportunity.

The way I see it, this is gonna go one of two ways:

    1. Trump gives it up with the first 100 days because he's won and that's enough for his ego
    2. He sticks at it but when Congress and the Senate goes Democrat, he'll have trouble passing any noteworthy legislation
