The 2017 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread (Deadline Day from page 264)

Dave Martin trained with us all summer and went to 1/2 games. I think Southend will be a good fit for him. If Robbo can get a freebie in, would much prefer another striker but think Wright would be good, especially for free and now Crofts has gone.Richard J said:

It does highlight the stupidity of leaving things until the very end of the transfer window.cafcsinger said:Every club scrambles around on deadline day, I would have kept Novak till January at least however.
Robinson said he wanted to get our business done early and to some extent that happened. But the "last minute" departures of back up strikers and the frantic scrambling for a single replacement (Dodoo on loan) does look unplanned and unwelcome. I wonder just how much say Robbo had in all that and what he really thinks about it.4 -
Perhaps Holmes was meaning that we've lost experienced heads?cafcfan1990 said:
Anyone else notice he didn't seem particularly pleased about Crofts and Novak leaving. Talked about the squad being a little thin and how he wouldn't have gotten rid of them.
In the dressing room as well as on the park.
Although it does seem that both players were agitating for a move and wanted out.

Both players were senior pro's and wanted games. Neither were likely to achieve that at Charlton. Not quite the same as being squeezed out but certainly not integral parts of the squad and both were well aware of that. Game time elsewhere was the best option for both.Oggy Red said:

No disrespect to Crofts but I doubt his absence will be missed. We have cover there. Novak is slightly different. We did need him replacing and to be fair I think we tried without success. I'm sure Dodoo's six month loan contract indicates that Charlton will look to sign either a player they missed out on or will target someone else in January. Not ideal but if we get lucky with Josh staying fit and Dodoo having an impact then we might get through until the next window.

Sheffield Wednesday used to play their reserve games at Rotherham, so its really close to Sheffield. I wouldn't be surprised if both Sheffield clubs have a "presence" at most of Rotherhams matches. They were after him in the summer, its not like they were going to see him for the first time to see how he played. Rubbish easy journalismCroydonAddick1 said:0 -
Yeah possibly, he did say about them being experience headsd. I got the feeling he felt the departures has left us short though and didn't seem particularly happy.Oggy Red said:

Hayes spent a lot of time at the training ground with the academy before getting his recent coaching license which I believe was a Pro or UEFA A.Henry Irving said:
Had been working with David who I believe is in charge of the younger age groups. Always nice to see a professional having their kids follow into the game, even if they don't make it.2 -
Paul Hayes is now an academy coach at the club so makes sense0

KR says we've got 4 CMs so don't have room for Wright. Interesting he includes Konsa in that rather than Dijksteel.

Im very glad he specifically mentions Kashi when saying players who are not for sale at any price. New contract for him please!Scoham said:http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/15520939.Charlton_manager_plays_down_move_for_free_agent/

I'm no so sure he can count Konsa as a centre midfielder.Scoham said:http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/15520939.Charlton_manager_plays_down_move_for_free_agent/

And in the same interview say we can't stop Konsa from leaving, say we need to buy players in January but we also say we don't have the room in the squad to sign someone like Josh Wright.
So does that mean we will sell Konsa in January and bring in Wright? Or is he playing it down and we can actually sign Wright? Especially as Konsa is actually a centre back and we also let Crofts leave. So surely there is room for him?
It's a long season and our starting XI isn't going to play every game. If we were really unlucky and both Kashi and Forster-Caskey were out, I wouldn't be confident of getting as good results as we have if Konsa and Aribo started in midfield for a while. I feel there is definitely a place for Wright in the squad.0 -
I'd be very surprised if Josh Wright is still available come JanuarySage said:

It does sound as though the first eleven are not for sale but that we've got to accept that Ezri Konsa will leave at some point whether thats in January or later because he's destined to play Premier League games0 -

Why we never made a huge effort to sign him from Bristol Rovers will always baffle me, him and Hoolahan are two we really let get away all those years ago!!dizzee said:

I recommended Lambert to Varney, who I believe was CEO at the time. He said we weren't interested because he was just a big lump.ForeverAddickted said:

Why would we have? We Had, David Mooney, Leon McKenzie, Nicky Forster, Akpo Sodje and Deon Burton banging the goals in for us then.ForeverAddickted said:
