Yep as someone who's moved to Texas in the last few months, you've summed it up perfectly.Bournemouth Addick said:
I cannot imagine what it must be like to be an American holding the views that the majority of Brits have. It's unimaginable to us but they have to watch the only people with the ability to actually do something about this fucked up situation kowtow to the gun lobby and ignore 1000's of deaths a year for political purposes.Callumcafc said:Absolutely dreadful. Worst part about it is that you feel almost powerless to stop it.
It'll only get worse sadly.0 -
More guns correlates to more gun related deaths. Weird.8 -

27 dead, 30 injured.
I lean right and am a hardcore Constitutionalist, and even I am starting to feel we have reached the point where it's time to re-write the laws and if necessary, The Constitution.5 -
I know this might sound controversial, but I'm getting to the stage where I just don't care anymore. The Americans have brought it on themselves - if after last months shooting the couldn't be bothered to start sorting this out them sod 'em. Just wonder how many of the 20 people or their families own a gun ?? I heard so much shit from the pro gun lobby last time around nothing surprises me anymore,

Think i probably agree with this. Mass shootings there don't even surprise me now.golfaddick said:I know this might sound controversial, but I'm getting to the stage where I just don't care anymore. It's not even last months shooting that should've made them do something about their laws, it was Sandy Hook. If a guy can stroll into a school and kill 20 kids and they still didn't do anything, then they never will.7 -
Trump already stated this is a mental illness problem, not a gun one. Also praised the guy who took the terrorist down - by shooting him with a gun.6

Read some of the replies to this, exactly that.moutuakilla said:I imagine the NRA will come out with something along the lines of, "if more of the good guys had guns, this could have been prevented".
Such a sad state of affairs.

The texas chief has come out and said he wants everyone to bring guns to church so this never happens again..... beyond moronic0

Trump says “this is not a guns issue”. I can only assume he’s misunderstood how these people died.2

How about.
GOOD GUY
with no *Gun Emoji*
WOULDNT NEED TO STOP
BAD GUY
with no *Gun Emoji*
Because 26 dead people does not seem to be a victory for the 'good guys'.

If a football match ended 26-1 there is no way you could turn the “1” into something positive. Unless you’re an idiot and an advocate of gunsScoham said:

It a mute point obviously because there is no will in the USA to reform gun laws but even if there was a genuine debate how on earth do you put the genie back in the bottle. How many hand guns, rifles and automatic weapons are in circulation ? How would you prevent a nut job from getting one ?
I wouldn’t go as far as golfie and say I just don’t care anymore but I see where he’s coming from. I think the world has to accept that the USA regularly has mass shootings. Wring our hands and get on with our day.1 -

Quite stunned by the sheer stupidity of the responses from Trump and politicians in Texas - the more shootings there are the more guns they want.
What can you say?2 -

It's hard to do, yes. Will a solution be perfect? No.ShootersHillGuru said:It a mute point obviously because there is no will in the USA to reform gun laws but even if there was a genuine debate how on earth do you put the genie back in the bottle. Is that a reason to do nothing? Fuck no.
Alright the guns already out there is a huge issue. But bringing in controls for any new guns brought is a start. Once that's implemented and working then you can. Start worrying about registering and controlling all the guns already out there.
I agree with your last point though. Until there is a will to change anything we simply have to just accept it.0 -
Out of interest how many jobs do gun manufacturing and selling and shooting ranges create in the US?
I have the feeling it's a very high number.1 -
Is the average American happy with the level of gun deaths in the US? If everyone is okay with it and doesn't see a need for change then is there really a problem?
Looking on from outside of the USA it all appears insane but maybe it isn't an issue over there?1 -
Nothing will change, its a billion dollar industry.
It doesn't impact my life, just let them get on with it.0 -

It would be very difficult. I think an Australia-esque buyback program is something that should be explored. But it would require long term, wide ranging solutions to a very immediate problem.ShootersHillGuru said:It a mute point obviously because there is no will in the USA to reform gun laws but even if there was a genuine debate how on earth do you put the genie back in the bottle. I understand how you and golf feel. Personally, I've become numb to this. These incidents simply don't phase me anymore. They do not give me pause for thought.
That said, no one should die, let alone continue to die, from Assault Rifles and other Military weapons because we have become detached from reality about what realistic gun restrictions are. It's insane.
Also, it's just emerging that it looks like there was some sort of domestic incident in the gunman's life, and he had gone to Military jail for domestic violence in the past. A history of domestic violence is very common amongst mass shooters and killers in general. In terms of gun control, stopping domestic abusers from having guns would be a very good, low barrier to entry solution.2 -
So Trump blames the shooting on someone with mental health issues yet made it easier for the mentally ill to buy guns.....
