Bowyer Talks - Weekly press conference updates

LB: “Lyle will be out for a while. He’ll be in that brace for a few weeks. Lewis Page is now in a boot for his Achilles so will remain out for a while." #cafc

LB: “Adam Matthews will play again for the U23s on Monday so he’s getting there, but this weekend will be too soon. He has to be ready when we need him.” #cafc1
-
LB: “I want to win every game. The way we lost disappointed me and where we lost disappointed me. I didn’t want to lose at home, I wanted to keep that run going for another season. On another day we might have won that game, so it’s disappointing.” #cafc

LB: “The mood is good, nothing has changed. We know we’ll lose games. If we hadn’t competed or given 100%, their mood changes and my mood changes. But we lost 1-0 and created chances. Our attitude was right on the day, we just couldn’t put the ball in the net.” #cafc

LB: “The lads are still in a good place. We’ll go to Wigan to try and win and be the best we can. Nothing changes here. We were disappointed because we hadn’t felt what it was like to lose for a long, long time, but we go again.” #cafc

LB on Wigan: “It’s going to be tough. They’ve got a good manager with a good set of players who work hard for him. They give everything and I’m sure that’s what he demands." #cafc1
-
LB: “It will be a physical game and I think it will be quite similar to last weekend. Every game is going to be tough and the first goal is so important. They have players that can hurt you, like every team, so we have to work hard to stop them.” #cafc1
-
LB: “We’ll try to win every game. That’s the way I am. If we lose, it will never be through lack of effort because that’s just the group we have. With that mentality, we’ll pick up more points than we’ll lose.” #cafc

Thanks @ForeverAddickted
If Bowyer thinks it will be a physical game, that suggests Pearce and Pratley will play!1 -
Wonder where the Achilles injury has come from for Lewis
Thought it was something else that had been keeping him out since Pre-Season?1 -

Odds that he never plays for us again?1 -

Confirms what I had heard about about Lyle yesterday, just hoping he will be back ready by the beginning of November.
Had no idea about Page to be perfectly honest, but this is ridiculous now. It will be a whole year since he played for us in just over a week. He was originally out with a hamstring injury in pre season, similar to Aneke but was worse. He rejoined training but now has an achilles injury. I make that 4, potentially even 5, different injuries in the space of a year without playing a competitive game. Got to worry about his career.
Oshilaja is basically ready to be part of the squad again now but whether Bow will have two defenders on the bench is another thing to think about.
Forster-Caskey just can’t get in the squad at the moment, because of the players in front of him and how he just wasn’t sharp enough at the start of this season. But with Lapslie injured, there may be a possibility he could get into the squad if someone else was to drop out.
With this in mind, you can assume the team and squad to be:
Phillips, Solly, Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington, Pratley, Cullen, Gallagher, Williams, Hemed, Leko
Amos, Sarr, Field, Kayal, Oztumer, Aneke, Bonne
Players waiting for their chance or out injured are:
Matthews, Oshilaja, Page, Forster-Caskey, Lapslie, Morgan, Taylor

At the moment its quite nice though
Page | Taylor | Lapslie all out injured... Pearce with a knock
Last season we'd have been shitting ourselves at the prospect of four players out in those positions
Now its a bit "Meh!"... Gives others a chance
Just hope the injury problems dont start to get much worse though else the bench will start to look a bit inexperienced1 -
Page is just one thing after another. Doubt we’ll see him again. Lyle out for a minimum of three months I was told yesterday from a reliable source.3
-
I feel gutted for Lewis Page who at 23 is struggling to get his body fit. So many different types of Injuries in the last two years. Must be so difficult mentally to keep coming back from adversity.1

I see a fan tweeted Lyle about being back for the Millwall game and he said hopefully he will, so maybe it will be a bit earlier than 3 months.
If he makes his return for the Millwall game, it would really give me more confidence that we may actually break our bad run against them.

Time for Hemed to step up to the plate and show us his pedigree.1

I think we will even struggle to score against Wigan.

Match fit and being unfit are poles apart.
We have had 2 very skilful player on a good day who could never really get match fit despite being fit ?
Both Tony Watt and Astrit Ajdarević were talented footballers who would blow through their arse after 25 minutes if we were lucky.
If there was a form of football, imagine 20/20 then these two boys would've had great careers. (20 mins each way !)
Hemed will be blowing out his arse trying to get fitter this week. I just hope he has energy left for Wigan, same goes for Aneke and Bonne who need to bust a gut to show Bowyer they should be in the line up.1 -

Hemed will play better when Kayal is on the pitch too. We didn’t play to Hemed’s strengths at all last week and it made him look really poor. A full week’s training knowing that he is starting should help the team develop an understanding. The shock of losing Taylor for a period of time will now have worn off the team and we can refocus and go again.8

Haven't seen Hemed play in the flesh yet so looking forward to the game Saturday. Hopefully he'll prove those impatient fans who already seem to have their doubts about him, wrong if selected. We still have enough about us to take the three points whoever gets the nod, from a workmanlike performance if we take our chances COYRs.1

From his videos Hemed is an out and out finisher, arguably a better finisher than Taylor, but no evidence at all he can play a lone striker role or hold up play role like Taylor. He needs quality ball in the box to get shots away, and is not going to fashion his own chances like Taylor might do. How we adapt to a style that allows him to play to his strengths is Lee's job.RedChaser said:Haven't seen Hemed play in the flesh yet so looking forward to the game Saturday. Taylor and Hemed present entirely different options and it is unfair for Hemed be judged against Taylor. Sometimes Taylor has struggled to perform with certain opposition, you never know, Hemed might have fared better. All I know is that if we play to Hemed to hold up the ball Hemed will be ineffective, as the Birmingham game proved.
Doubt Brighton had many teams who sat back and defended against them so Hemed's performances for Brighton may not translate across to dour games in the Championship against packed defences.
Would not personally judge Hemed until he's fully fit and been able to perform in a set up that he's best suited to. Too easy to write off players on the evidence of what they can't do in a system that doesn't play to their strengths and used as Hobson's choice.
