Solly at left back has never worked imo. Is Purrington fit?1
-
Might Purrington be fit?0
-
Stevenson on the bench Saturday? Or even in the team, not ideal but at least he’s actually a left back5
-
Purrington could be fit for the weekend but he will need to take part in training tomorrow for that to be able to happen. Guess we wait for Bow's presser tomorrow.0

thought we played well and controlled the game for long periods of time in awkward conditions.
The injuries took their toll in the second half as we had a number of shattered/walking wounded players.
Our goal came after we started very well in the second half and we’re building up pressure and playing some nice controlled football, if the game had finished there no one could of argued with us deserving the three points.Pivotal two minute spell when their keeper saved from Pratley and then they went up other end and bundled it in, that gave them a head of steam and to be fair they looked the more likely team to get the three points but I don’t think they were deserved
Overall thought we played very well against another team that has spent lots and a team that at the start of the season was being talked about a top 6 side. The first half subs grafted hard and thought solly deserved special mention for playing in his wrong position on a very wet pitch with his dodgy knees after only playing on Saturday.
the one question I did have was the Aneke sub, didn’t look like he knew where he was playing. Overall was very encouraged again with the sides ability on the ball, just need to concentrate at the back a bit more0 -

There are more comedians on CL than at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Some should support a club with Tony Pullis as Manager.
If Bowyer decided he wanted to go for 3 points not 1 then good on him. Losing both Field and JFK was massive and yes Sarr could have been an option but Aneke was excellent when coming on at Wigan.
So many experts who have never coached or managed a team in their lives.
We are over achieving and with ten now out injured we are giving it a right go.
I'm really proud of Bowyer/coaches and squad.

The problem with the theory about the way we play causing the injuries is when you look into the injuries. They were not caused by fatigue but bad luck. Something which happens in football.2
-
Bowyer has proven himself to be very tactically astute. He plans meticulously for each challenge and had got the best out of a squad that has some real quality (Gallacher, Taylor), experience (Pratley, Pearce) and those playing as high as they ever probably will (Purrington, Solly, Leko). He gets it right pretty much every game. Let’s not forget that Johnson last night, Parker and the master tactician Bielsa all changed their formation to del with ours.
Against Bristol City things went against us in losing Field and JFC during the first half. That’s can’t be legislated for. We are well ahead of where I dreamed we would be and have beaten Derby and Leeds. Perhaps a minor frustration is losing to teams we are going to be directly competing against in Wigan, Birmingham and, to a lesser extent, Bristol City.
We are, I believe, yet to concede three goals in a game. That could happen this Saturday against a WBA will want to get back to winning ways as we will have a much weakened squad without Williams, Leko, Field, JFC, Taylor and maybe Purrington.
Yet, this group of players should never be written off. Nor should Bowyer’s ability to surprise us all.6 -

On the train back to london now with a horrendous hangover after a night out in bristol and crashing with a couple mates.
Decent game of football overall but absolute sucker punch at the end and a horrible feeling.
First half I felt we started the better team and looked like creating something every time we had the ball. The diamond caused them problems. They gradually grew into the game and had more of the ball but we still looked dangerous whenever we had the ball. The two injuries took all the momentum and sting out of our game as well as forcing us to use Pratley who we would have been hoping to only give 20 mins so he would be fresh for saturday and solly who we would have been hoping not to use at all.
Second half we came out fast and had a period where we completely dominated. Pratley absolutely ran the midfield. We didnt make it count though which was fraustrating. They made the subs though to match us up and the game became very open. Both teams had chances and Dillon pulled off some good saves. Macca did well to make the keeper look stupid and finish from a tight angle. They came at us hard and Dillon pulled off a string of saves including some absolute worldys. They certainly deserved a goal from all the pressure they had but the way that it came was a bit of a sickner. Their massive lump upfront with a poor effort that looked like it was a complete miss hit coupled with some poor defending and it was 1-1.
You could see our players were visibly starting to tire and needed freshening up but bowyers hands were tied with Kayal needing to come off. Pratley was moved into the middle of the back 3 and we started to lose the midfield battle. I get the reasoning for bringing chucks on because he is more physical than ozzy and he could make the ball stick more upfront. But he offers so little off the ball that he really doesn't work in a Bow midfield or in that situation. It was the perfect situation for Lapslie had he been fit. In hindsight Sarr on into the back 3 and Pratley back into midfield would have been the best way. But at the time it seemed the right call.
Couldn't really see the red card incident but judging by our players reactions it must have been bad.
After the red card the game remained open. Both teams had chances though none really clear cut. Then some more poor defending from some very tired legs and that was that. Horrible.
Plenty of positives to take, we played some good football and I don't think we deserved to lose. Without the 2 first half injuries we would have won that or at least held the draw.
Kayal looked silky but seemed on a slightly different wavelength to everyone else, not spotting the runs or passing it through when the player made a different run. That will come with time but hes looking good and we are gonna need him.
Darren Pratley is fast becoming our most indispensable player.
But the injury situation is beyond worrying now. I have a feeling we are going to have a period like we had last season where we struggle for a couple of months and have to really grind out results until we start getting players back. Expect us to drop into mid table over the next couple of weeks.9 -
Can we get Morgan back off loan?0

Wow. Lots of people criticising the sub. And I agree that with hindsight it should have been Sarr. But if that had happened ed plenty of people would have called it a too negative move.
Kayal had to be the one to come off it's his first start in how long? So bows hands were tied after the 2 forced changes. Usually Leko would have gone off if we had another sub.
We were already losing the midfield battle and I would argue that Pratley moving into the back 3 was more of the reason for that.
So yes it didnt work and chucks offers very little off the ball but I think there is a little bit of an overreaction going on here.5 -
Just noticed, its the first game we've lost this season where we've had less than 50% possession!!0

First game I haven’t been able to watch, but reading through the comments on here I’ve got to assume that Aneke must have been truly shocking to have received such vitriol. Some are completely writing him off, when from what I’ve seen he’s a decent player, with plenty of strength, and no little ability, who probably needs more minutes.0

It was certainly disappointing to lose so late but as to the criticism regarding the defending; it was a quality pass into the box and the guy controlled it well before banging it home, but yes, defender maybe could have been a bit tighter on him. Can't really use that as an excuse though.1 -

For many on here I think their issue with him is the fact that he doesnt put in the miles compared to others
i.e. Last night at one stage you had Bonne @ Right-Back helping out Oshilaja
That sort of effort is always going to be appreciated more by the fans compared to someone who isnt tracking back etc.7 -
Crazy idea here lads.
Maybe Aneke was sent on with the instructions of sitting on the last man, so we had an outlet for a break/clearence from the back?

I agree, I don't think the sub was wrong tactically, I think the problem was Chuks was the wrong player to bring on, and Chuks himself created a problem by playing badly. Kayal was driving the ball forward much more than Gallagher yesterday and most of our dangerous openings were as a result of those runs. Bowyer will have brought Chuks on to do the same job. It didn't work, partially because Kayal was snapping at heels in the midfield whereas Chuks will always push further forward, and partially because Chuks ran into players all game instead of using his fresh legs to stretch their defenders. After their red Aneke really should have come into his own - as should Leko - considering they were still pushing for the winner and there were gaps everywhere, but all he managed to do was give away a foul, get booked for kicking the ball away and get poleaxed. The sad thing is, if he hadn't gone down there the ref wouldn't have been able to justify the match going into the 98th minute. Not Aneke's fault, but unfortunate. Bringing Sarr on is a hindsight thing, but I don't know that trying to shut up shop totally after 72 minutes is a good plan when the game was as open as it was; that just gives the impetus over to the home team and they had looked like scoring all half2

Oztumer was far more of a like for like sub than Aneke though . It's not as if we needed an aerial threat up top, but someone with some ability on the ball to control it3

Although I dont like the bloke give credit to Lee Johnson. Going down to 10 men with 5 mins of normal time to play some teams would have shut up shop. Instead he went for the winner. I know a sending off galvanises a team (and the fans) but after that incident it was one way traffic. Even before then they had numerous chances & mad scrambles in our box. A point would have been a fair result & I don't think it helped having LB in the stand (or should I say up with the tv man & commentator) as he couldn't "affect" what was going on pitch side as he might usually have done.

A close game that could have gone either way. In some of these sort of games we will get the breaks in others we won't. Yesterday, any result could have happened and we didn't get the breaks. Time to look to the next game.1

Also Bristol city had a midfielder playing who cost more than our entire squad.2 -
I know we’re not allowed to offer anything on the negative but someone above mentioned something that was bugging me last night .
phillips had a blinder but he definitely chose to punch a few that I’m sure he could have caught and relieved the pressure that we were put under .
to reiterate he was prolly out best performer on the night but there’s always room for improvement.
i suppose he weighs it up with the wet slippery conditions and the fact keepers don’t ever catch the ball anymore Cos of more movement by the balls than usual .
so prolly me being over critical6
