I would imagine young players get less choice or maybe they feel they have less choice. I don't think anybody would suggest that Conor questions his club. It probably wouldn't be the best career move for him. Not at Chelsea anyway and it is the team he supports.

This contract situation, as I think it reads, is not just about Bowyer.
It also includes the playing Management team.

Maybe Bowyer's insisted on that and it's been one of the sticking points?

Striker Macauley Bonne stands a chance of being back in the squad for Tuesday’s match at Nottingham Forest.

“He could train Sunday and Monday with us,” said Bowyer. “Because we play Tuesday it means we’ll train Sunday and Monday.

“It’s how he comes through his next few days of rehab.

“I saw him outside on Tuesday and he was literally sprinting – going fast – so he can’t be far off it.”

Deji Oshilaja has twisted his ankle and will miss the Stoke fixture.

LB: I was relieved when the window closed, because we still had Lyle. Now we can just concentrate on the group we have now. We all know where we stand and what we have to do.” #cafc

LB: I thought there was a good chance that he would go, because he’s a good player and clubs were interested. For us to lose him in January would have been hard to take. We lost Karlan last year and I didn’t want history to repeat itself." #cafc

LB: Andre Green can play both roles – on the wing and up front. We did the same with Karlan and Leko. Both wingers who played up top and scored goals." #cafc

LB: "He needs to work on his hold-up play a bit, but that’s not what he’s there for. His movement is very good and he’s settled into that role nicely." #cafc

LB: "McGeady is a great player. Whatever has gone on in the past is gone and it’s nothing to do with me. My job now is to get him back to where we know he can be. He scores goals & makes assists and I’m delighted that he’s in our squad. He brings us something different." #cafc

LB: We’re in a much better position now than the last few months. We have a lot of games this month so we have to be careful with those players who have been out for a while. But it’s great that we don’t have to duck and dive to get out a team of eleven players." #cafc

LB: "We’ll probably send three of the young lads out to non-league on loan. It will benefit us in the long run and they can learn to improve the defensive side of their games." #cafc

LB: "I was at the U23s game on Monday. Chuks Aneke is doing well and the most important thing is to get his fitness up. In possession, he’s doing well, but there’s more to the game than that." #cafc

LB: "He has that physicality and brings something different in the final third, so it’s been frustrating that he’s been out, just the same as all the others who we’ve lost over these last few months." #cafc

LB: "I hope we’ll see Lewis Page again this season. I feel for him because he’s been working so hard to get back. He was training with us for six weeks & we didn’t want him to play any games because we wanted to be careful. But, for whatever reason, he broke down again." #cafc

LB: "The lad was in bits and I feel for him. Everybody’s body is different and he’s finding it hard to keep fit and it’s unfortunate. We’re trying to find ways around it. We’ve sent him away to clear his head and he’ll come back and try again." #cafc

LB: "Deji Oshilaja rolled his ankle last week so won’t be in the squad for Saturday." #cafc

LB: "Adam Matthews has been excellent. He’s keeping Chris Solly out of the side and it’s something I’ve spoken to Chris about. That's football." #cafc

Depending on severity of course. But pleased it's a support player over a first 11 player.

Similar situation to that which he faced with Dijksteel in the latter part of last season.

Whenever we play 3-5-2 I think he will struggle to get the nod over Matthews. There are some pretty impressive full/wing backs in the Championship nowadays. If I remember correctly, the guy who started at left back for Barnsley on Saturday caused us quite a few problems in the first half.

LB: “Every day you learn, especially for someone like myself who wants to improve and learn. We’re having a different experience to the one we had last season, so it’s important to learn." #cafc

LB: “I believe that three more wins and a couple of draws will see us safe. But that’s the minimum. We have 14 games left and a lot of points to be played for, with some important games, especially at home." #cafc

LB: “The home games will be important and the fans will play a massive part towards that." #cafc

LB: “Nothing’s changed on the injury front. We’re trying to balance the minutes for those that had been out for a while. You could see on Tuesday that Lyle is getting back to where he was. He’s a robust player, closing people down and running around in the 89th minute.” #cafc

LB: “Lyle is priceless for us. From when we’ve brought him in to now, he’s been outstanding. He’s changed and improved a lot and it was so important that we kept him. For as long as he is here, we’ve always got a chance of winning games.” #cafc

LB: “Regarding a new contract, there are some things that need to happen. I know he wanted me to sign a contract and stay at the club and that was something that would influence him, but there’s one or two other things as well.” #cafc

LB: “We’ve got numbers that means we can rest players now. We left Jonny [Williams] and Andre [Green] behind on Tuesday, so it’s a bit of a luxury and it means those players can come back refreshed.” #cafc

LB: “Tuesday was one of our best wins of the season, especially off the back of Saturday because that was a disappointment for everyone." #cafc

LB: “I said to them that as long as they do the basics right, everything else falls into place. We did all the right things on Tuesday and it was a very good performance. My only criticism is that we didn’t win by more.” #cafc

LB: “It’s going to be great to see The Valley full. The place is going to be bouncing and it always is, even when it isn’t full. When I first came in charge, if you said we would be playing in the Championship in front of a full house, then you wouldn’t have believed it.” #cafc

Apart from money and championship survival, I would also guess that it is the ambition of ESI in the close season.

I think ambition is a huge thing. Yes of course one condition is that we hit the amount of wages that he feels he has earned and should be rewarded, and I agree. But the other is probably a gentleman’s promise that we are to be ambitious and aim high next season. I think if he gets that, he’ll sign.

Also really can’t wait to see The Valley full on Saturday. With the set of players we have, I think they raise their game in these situations, hence our record against the top sides.
