  • Sussex go top with a team of kids (plus Claydon)
Not quite (in addition to Claydon, Brown is 31, Robinson is 26 and Finch is 25) but to win with seven players between 18-23 bodes very well for the future of Sussex cricket. They have some top age group coaches such as Mark Nash (brother of Chris) and Phil Hudson and are clearly reaping the benefit of their youth system.

That said, Kent have four players under 22 in their side plus Crawley (23) to come back in.
  • 106-9 and a lead of 195
  • Kent effectively 200/9... Even when we bundled you out for 40 we still struggled to catch you! Game still on, and Stevens always kicks our arse
  • 112 all out. Lets hope the pitch has deteriorated to make it a tricky run chase

I see Jamie Porter opened as night watchman to protect Cook
  • Makes me laugh when Jamie goes on as night watchman as he averages about 2.5 in batting.
  • Essex 61-4

    we are still in this.
  • Lunch: Essex 73-4 ... Cook 32*, Stewart 3-24

Essex require a further 129 more runs to win, Kent need six wickets.

    Interesting afternoon ahead ...
  • 73-4

A certain former England captain and record run scorer remains the stumbling block!
  • Thriller, this. Ivan Thomas doing his career a power of good right now

  • Essex 164-6 ... Essex 38 to win

I'll be kind, I'll let them have 35

One can't help thinking that his long term absence and performance in the first innings (7-0-42-0) is the reason for him being the 6th to bowl and after 48 overs of the innings. He is, after all, meant to be a strike bowler.
  • And strike he does!

But why did we wait 48 overs to use him?
  • Because Kent knew this would happen? :)
  • 172-8 Essex still need 30

    Thomas 4-20
  • Said Essex would do their best to screw it up! (Fair play to Kent, bowling well). Quite a few no balls haven't helped you.
  • Momentum may have gone now with those no balls making the task in hand easier for Essex.

We should have dug in and scored a few more yesterday.
  • Thomas still not bowling? Using the 2 bowlers who haven't got a wicket this innings!
  • Bugger.

    Essex win by 2 wickets

    :(

  • Brave try with 3 batsman away with England
  • Phew. Good game, good game. Funny seeing the elbow and foot taps instead of handshakes at the end, looked like a really half hearted fight

That we would lose you mean?

As I said it was a very strange decision to wait 'til the 48th over to use Thomas. If they didn't trust him why was he picked ahead of Podmore?
  • We lost the game through our woeful batting in the second innings - you really shouldn't lose bowling last with a 90 run lead after the first innings
  • As a born and bred essex boy, never in doubt!!!. Although Essex can always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

You got lucky. Well "lucky" in the sense that we are better at doing that!  At 171-8 and still needing 32 Kent would have been big favourites to win.
  • Derbyshire pulling off something absolutely incredible. Leicestershire giving it a fine go too
  • Two years running our second innings capitulation costs us victory against Essex

Is the cricket season nearly over yet? Champions!!!
And Slurrey in their rightful place.
I'm sure Surrey will sign a few more bowlers to add to Topley and Overton
Topley has been with England (one of the 9 we have in both England squads) and is now injured. Overton isnt joining until next season. We have 4 injuries and 2 stuck abroad.
