He's gone from Northampton to Sheffield United (who he took over in league one), not Manchester United to Real Madrid.
He may fancy his chances higher up the pyramid but the Charlton job is far from unrealistic.
If Tommy boy can sell him his vision and offer him a decent wage he may well fancy it.
Sends out a real statement of intent as well6 -
Jackson gets the club.
Anyone that can take him on as assistant is good enough for me, with a view to promote him next time there's a vacancy.
That or Jackson as Head Coach and Curbs as Advisor/Assistant/DoF (if Gallen were to go) at least til the end of the season.0 -
Whoever Thomas appoints will give us a signal about how serious he is about Premier League ambition. A "name" will expect assurances about transfer and wage budgets geared to success. A punt (and that includes JJ, as much as I like him) will be just that, a hopeful gamble.6

Tell you what though, the Charlton job is an attractive opportunity for most managers out there.14

Jackson needs to work with an experienced manager first, I want Pep

A big NO to Atkins from me. Why lose the JJ vibe for a serial failure?13

Long-term maybe but the bigger gamble would be to bring in someone nobody on the playing side knows. Our best bet for a play-off spot (still a tough ask) would be JJ or Jase as caretaker, both of whom could up the tempo and motivation (that's the main thing that has been missing).

Spent about 10 years in non league, had 2-3 very good years at Lincoln, did 'ok' at Huddersfield before being sacked and has been out of work for 8 months.0 - Sponsored links:

With TS as owner I think the Charlton job is attractive and should be reasonably easy to sell to the right candidate.7

Yes.
I have no doubt at all that JJ will have a successful career in management but it won't be at CAFC any time soon.
He will be more ruthless than Chris Powell but have the same man management skills as CP and he will keep his cool better than Lee Bowyer who unravelled after the years of off field pressures at Cafc.
Another year at the Valley for Jackon under Wilder who I believe would relocate to the south and be prepared to work in the 3rd tier if had a good owner with a plan, would be great experience for JJ before cutting his teeth in League 2.

He has not been on the playing staff for three years now and has been coaching under Robinson and Bowyer so if he is not ready now he never will be.
If we were in the Championship it may be different but he is perfectly well qualified for the role and from his point of view he may never get this type of chance again.6 -

Good shout but only if Keiron Dyer turns down the job.4 -
Having slept on it, now firmly in the JJ with Curbs in a supporting role camp. Throw in Steve Brown and Jason Euell as dedicated backs and forwards coaches respectively and I’d be very happy with that.3

Worried by this Adkins rumour. His name might well strike a chord with TS as someone who was innovative and had success at the point that TS was getting very interested in English football. Of course that doesn’t mean he won’t get success again.0

Cowley would actually be an interesting choice with Jackson, as we'd no doubt get both brothers with one taking the Assistant Manager job... Well where does that leave Jackson?
As for Atkins, christ almighty... Last managed Sheffield United at this level, leaving them in mid table and was sacked so they could nip in and pinch Chris Wilder from us
He really would be that "careful what you wish for" choice0 -

Maybe we should get Lennie in as well and we can have a big emotional special CAFC group hug and steadfastly resolve to be plucky.
Don't get me wrong, I love them all to bits and it may be a good call in a temporary transitional capacity.
But we have an ambitious owner with money now and without getting all recklessly Hulyer, maybe we are in a position to make a more astute and ambitious appointment4 -
I have wanted Cowley for a while now: a proven track record of success and someone who has experience of the kind of 'rebuilding the club from the ground up' that we need.We need fresh ideas and a fresh start, to draw a line with the bad recent past, which is why I don't think JJ would be right at this time in his career. I think you go for the 'internal candidate' when there is a well established structure and pattern of play that you want to maintain; unfortunately, that is just not the case here.I actually hope that JJ will go and be Bowyer's deputy at Birmingham and that they will do well there, because otherwise with a couple of wins against poor Wimbledon and Crewe sides, the pressure to appoint him permanently will be massive.0

Latest odds...Adkins has jumped up!
Cowley is odds on for pompey.

Were you disappointed when the Leicester number 2 under Nigel Pearson was appointed Charlton manager ?
When he could bring his own players in, the following season, Powell topped 100 points.
If we lose Johnnie from Charlton now it will be a retrograde step. He made the decision to drop two senior men straight away in the collecters of Yellow cards Pratley and Watson.
It's Thomas Sandgaard's right to bring in who he chooses but nothing to do with loyalty, but Jackson is the right man for the job now but it sounds like that won't happen.
Howe was given the Bournemouth job at 29 in League 2.0 -
Could Adkins......if true.......be being spoken to with a view to coming in to help out JJ, as an experienced manager.0
