good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping. The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.0 -

Adkins has come out of nowhere. Not impressed with his work after Southampton at all. Plus I really, really can't take seeing him called Atkins every other post in here. It'll be Belgiums all over again. It's a bit of a weird one for Sandgaard with Jacko. He either wants him or he doesn't, and results shouldn't really make a massive difference to that. If we won our next four games then Jacko would have made a great argument to be made permanent, but then would that be because he fitted Sandgaard's long term plan or because he had put himself in a position where it felt awkward not to hire him? I actually would hope that regardless of how Jackson does as caretaker Sandgaard would only appoint him if it fitted a strategy; it always ends in tears if someone is just made permanent manager when they're not really wanted. Abramovich appointed Di Matteo on a permanent grudgingly after he won the Champions League, but he never had his full backing and at the first sight of things slipping he was gone. It was inevitable, because he wasn't really the manager he wanted.0

I don’t get the urgency to give him the job. It’s not like he’s in work and we need to poach from another club. Can’t get my head around the thinking of giving Adkins the job.0

No problem with Adkins if that’s what the owner wants.1

A bit like Powell's situation. Some fans were calling for his head even before the takeover.1 - Sponsored links:

whatever happens and whoever comes in I want Jacko to still have a role at the club and stay (if an outside man is appointed) - it's clear from last night how much the players like and respect him6
-
Young progressive coach in the style of:
Nathan Jones - Could be realistic, much more potential here than at LutonMichael Beale - Like a few on here hadn't heard of him until this thread but having a look see, I like the idea, got some good coaching experience behind him, league1 a good starting place for the step into being no.1
Both have a Charlton connection without worrying about legendary status so when it goes tits up you won't get the CL Powell/ Bowyer in/out civil war.
However, more than happy to let JJ take it until the end of the season and see what happens there, we won't go down we probably won't go up so let him take on Bowyers "free pass".1 -

I’d be fuming with Adkins. Really don’t want him.6

I understand the unlikeliness of that and JJ with Curbs is my second choice. I think that makes them my first realistic choice.1 -
Cowley gonna be the next Portsmouth Manager by the sounds of things

Cowley would be a better choice than Adkins, the former looks set for Pompey now.0

Danny Addick said:I don’t really want JJ to get the job because our fans will try to bring him down eventually. There’s no point, let’s save the heartache. Bowyer gets the club, yet he was slaughtered these last few months. I’d prefer someone with no ties.
Or is it ok for fans to criticise Slade or Robinson because they didn't play for us, but not Bowyer because 25 years ago he pulled on a Charlton shirt?1 -
I reckon Cowley was Sandgaard's number 1 target.0
-
If Adkins gets the job I’ll be gutted, could you pick a more uninspiring choice? He’s no better than Paul Lambert.I’d also be slightly concerned about how much influence Roddy has on these big decisions.4
-
I put Adkins in the Kenny Jackett / Roy Hodgson bracket.
Curbs assisting JJ may work but would prefer someone like David Wagner.0 -

I’d honestly rather of had any of the other front runners than Adkins.
Laudrup, Jackson, Cowley would prefer all of them, very uninspiring if it happens, but what can you do, I’ll be backing him regardless.3 -
