I don't understand why people don't rate Danny Cowley saying he is average.

Not only is he a very tactically aware manager he also makes his team's the fittest in the league as well as winners everywhere he goes.

His record speaks for himself as a winner.

    Concord Rangers:

    Essex Senior League Champions 2008
FA Vase Quarter Finals 2008 (Club Record)
Isthmian League Division One North Play Off Finalists 2009
    Essex Senior Cup Finalists 2009
Isthmian League Division One North Play Off Winners 2010
Isthmian League Premier Play Off Winners 2013
    Isthmian League Cup Winners 2013
    Essex Senior Cup Winners 2014
    Essex Senior Cup Winners 2015
FA Cup First Round 2015 (Club Record)

    3 Promotions (1 champions 2 play offs)
    3 Cups
    Breaking club records

    Braintree Town:
3rd in National League 2016 (Club Record)
    Lost to Grimsby in play-offs
FA Cup First Round (Joint Record at the time)

Club record of highest ever league finish

    Lincoln City:
    National League Champions 2017
FA Cup Q/F 2017 (First non league team to reach quarters)
    EFL Trophy Champions 2018
    League Two Champions 2019

2 Promotions as champions and the EFL Trophy in 3 seasons.

    Huddersfield Town:
Took over Huddersfield when they was struggling and won October's manager of the month going 6 unbeaten.

Rebalanced the budget and did his job of keeping them in the championship then shafted as they wanted a foreign approach.

I get the feeling that some people are reading into things that are not there with Roddy.
were they even at Reading at the same time?
Adkins left there in 2014. Roddy arrived in 2017 so if a connection exists it’s not through Reading.

Andy Crosby, Adkins assistant throughout the years, joined Port Vale last week. So if Adkins comes here, maybe JJ will be able to stay as assistant.

As an aside, far too much emphasis seems to be getting put on managers imo, particularly intra game when players make mistakes. I’m starting to feel some fans think the managers control the players like computer games.

good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping.

The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.
I used to partially think that until we had the succession of managers under RD where it was proven (in my eyes) beyond doubt the Manager is still the critical role. Players just seem unable to do it for themselves on the pitch.

You might well say that under RD none of the infrastructure was there but that wouldn't be wholly true not least because he inherited stuff that was there.

Regardless the manager is still too important not to get it right.

Would have struggled to have said when the third time was after Scunthorpe and Southampton when he won the league - Good to know the other was via. the Play-Offs with the former

Yep and this is why comparisons to Slade are a bit insulting. A bloke who’s had four promotions in the top three divisions vs Slade who hasn’t got one.

Can you really see him even wanting to, he has been assistant long enough, and i feel he would do a good job in the hot seat if given the opportunity

Think you might be thinking of Tony Mowbray?

The way Johnnie spoke last night even he was questioning whether it was the right time to become Manager so not sure if he's fully tired of the assistant role just yet

JJ didn’t seem 100% last night about applying to be manager. Maybe he’s happy to learn as assistant for another full season. Just thought it was an interesting fact that Adkins usual assistant is unavailable at this time

Adkins did a decent job at hull. Took them over when they were 20th, moved them up to 18th. Then the next season they finished 13th in the Championship.

Sheffield United is his only 'failure' really. Leading directly to Wilder shooting them up the table.
    Sheff U win % 41
    Hull win % 33

He was probably being diplomatic, he loves this club and would jump at the chance if given it.

March 11th interview with Nigel Adkins in the second half of this podcast. Talks a bit about what he’s up to lately, his managerial career and his philosophy etc.

    https://twitter.com/timlovejoy/status/1370681966048202753?s=21
Really telling final question in this interview.

Says he’s had lots of offers from the UK and abroad but wants the right project. Wants to get himself back into Premier League management and to do that you have to go through the Championship. He wants to give his all to his next job, play good football and develop young players for the future. Therefore rules himself out of any short term appointments.

All of the above, along with his reputation for being one of the most positive men in football would blend really well with Thomas in an interview.

Without even thinking about his coaching ability , we need a manager that excites the fans at the time when Season Tickets are about to go on sale.

Nigel Adkins is NOT that person.

Adkins is defensively minded, almost to the exclusion of attacking.

Just look at his playing career - over 300 games and never scored a f*cking goal.

Another note, the latest one of those was a decade ago.

Times change and not all managers move with it, see Wenger/Mourinho.

After 12 months without live football I could not care if we were managed by a blow up doll in the dugout. I will watch the lads win, lose or draw in rain, snow & sun so my season ticket will be bought regardless of who the manager is.

That's great. Sadly not all fans think that way and are much more fickle than you or me.

So if Wenger could be persuaded by Thomas to take the job you would not agree?

Football hasn't changed that much in 10 years.

Curbs has been out the game longer than Wenger and we can all see the clamouring for him to return.
