Window ended up good i would say - i'm reliably informed that TS spent £2m on transfer fees, loan fees and agents fees and we were trying to buy Leko as well but couldn't agree fee - something that might happen further down the line - i'd like to see a big ovation for TS when he next attends the Valley
That's one hell of an investment if so.

He seems a good un does TS.
  • Have the club made any statement re Ronnie Schwartz as per Richard Cawleys tweet yesterday ?

It would be but he’d still be well in front on the balance of fees received, which we know to be the case from the published accounts. It’s the other costs that have been the expense.

Whether it’s playing squad costs or operating costs, they all add up to a bottom line deficit that TS is covering. He has my gratitude for that.
I’m not disagreeing with that, but you can’t look at one side of player trading in isolation as you know. It’s not all dead money. Hopefully!

Does that matter, really? It sounds like nit picking, whether he received money from season ticket sales / player sales / shirt sales it all goes into the same pot? We all know he's lost millions since he's been here. I don't see the relevance in pointing that out. IF he's invested £2m this window, bloody fair play. I know of a few owners before him that wouldn't dream of it

It’s really not one pot of money because one is revenue from operations and the other is (mostly) asset trading. By definition assets have a value and can be resold at a higher price, if you’re lucky. Potentially the net cost of the permanent transfers will be nothing because we’ll sell one or more of them at a profit, so they won’t add to the loss in the end. That’s why we try to buy players who have a resale value. It’s also why the cost of players bought for fees is shown in the accounts written down over their full contracts and does NOT go straight on that year’s bottom line loss. Unlike spending on wages, for example.

Is it good if TS has spent now to strengthen the team? Yes, it’s great. But it’s not sunk cost in the same way as wages. And it paves the way to more of the kind of fees that he’s already received to fund it..

Quick update on the kids released end of last season...

I see Kai Grande was on the bench for Millwall U23 recently. No idea if he has signed for them.

Junior Quitirna signed for Waterford in the Irish Premier League.

Luca Albon went to Bowers and Pitsea in Isthmean Premier.

Kasim Aidoo now at Eastbourne Borough.

    Richard Afrane-Kesey signed for Braintree.

Freddie Barton, Eddie Allsop, Harry Taylor look still unattached.

Couldn't agree more, Callum & Gravesend. We do have a really special club in that regard. I bet Tracey put a welcoming arm around Charlie Kirk too after his sad loss. Not to mention all the past players that keep coming back appearing on Charlton TV and the like. I was wondering does any other club have such a warm welcoming fantastic set as Charlton.

In my opinion... Great window. Strong team. Spent well over £1,000,000 signing young, talented, motivated players on long term contracts. Also signed players with links to CAFC (Lee, Arter, Leko & Clare) and signed natural leaders and players of the season (Lavelle Kirk & MacG). I also think the temperament of the players we've brought in has been well thought through.

Whats not to like? Yes, we might be a LB or a ST short, but I reckon we might dip into the free transfer market to plug whatever minute holes there might be.

Finally, a sensible window, not one where our sole target is to bring In 'bodies.'
    Wow we spent a million.
I will go Charlton and support the team as Always but I'm not expecting us to be anywhere near the play-offs.
I think this is a below average squad.
I hope I am wrong I honestly do.
Playing some youngsters through the season will keep me interested and then mount a challenge next season. I'm not in a rush for promotion like others

I agree re. not rushing - however would you not agree this window is a step in the right direction though, a solid base on which to build?
Yes I'd agree we are building.
    I've no problem with that.
But this squad compared to Sheff Wd, Sunderland,Ipswich even Oxford,  we won't be challenging
Way too early to make that prediction. We don't know enough about Lavelle. Dobson and Clare need to improve, but made that first step tonight. We don't know what Leko or Arter we're getting either. I'd also predict few people know much about other League 1 squads in too much depth. Oxford look to have a very decent side but a lot of unknowns beyond that.
2 injuries and we are screwed mate
I think that puts us in the same position as 90% of the teams in the division though. In terms of pure numbers, most teams seem to have made roughly the same amount of signings as we have so I can't imagine that it's only Charlton facing potential injury crises.
We're coming out of a pandemic which as badly affected football clubs everywhere. Barcelona were holding a fire sale today! With this and the squad cap, like you say a lot of clubs in exactly the same position. We'll need a bit of luck but we added players today, it's slightly unbalanced but could have been a lot worse.
I am.not so sure we are out of this pandemic with 33,000 a day infected and 100 deaths a day and a lot of resistance to vaccine in some sections plus people so untiring to wear masks on public transport.
I didn't say we were out of it. But with fans allowed back in the ground, then it is getting back to normal for football clubs with increased revenue. Of course another lockdown changes that. However, despite this being the thread to discuss almost everything, it's definitively not to discuss Covid and restrictions.
It has to be seen if we are coming out of it and the reasons are as I said. You mentioned the pandemic first and now you want it not discussed.  Why is that 🤔.  It a forum after all.
there is a separate thread for all things covid related.
Then tell cafcfan1990. He raised it first and I made a remark but you hsve to hsve another snipe at me. Fucking why?
He mentioned it in context of affecting the finances... Which it did. It was you who decided to dive into the actual politics and bring up masks and vaccines.

    Cry me a river.

    Great isn't it.

Must be great for the staff to be working there now after the years of chaos.

People saying that Purrington is not a marauding speedy full back well neither is Matthews & he doesn’t get the same criticism at all. What we do have Imo is two solid league one fullbacks!
    Bingo!

Tracey said “my boy’s coming home”. About a player who was on loan to us for a few months. Incredible stuff to be honest. She is what good clubs are built on.
When I spoke to Tracey last year she mentioned she’d had a soft spot for Leko. Think they had him over for dinner, looked after him etc.

She’s an absolute diamond that lady ♥️

Yes that’s what she said to me when I met her a few months ago. She’s absolutely brilliant.

Yea. The cringe factor of her asking this on such an open medium is that there will be many twatty replies too...

Which would back up the fact that I think a lot of clubs at our level were at the mercy of the unpredictability of the window, just like us, and perhaps had to change plans from the prospects they wanted earlier on

That’s a fairly meaningless stat with respect  - the meaningful comparison would be with previous deadline days not other days during the window. We know clubs sign more players on deadline day. It doesn’t tell you whether this window was different from any other.
