With TS talking about the possibility of bringing in a free agent striker, what do our squad numbers look like now?
At least 1 free space.  We started with 1.

    Have lost Arter, Kirk, Davison
    Added Fraser and Chucks.

That's JFC+1 if my math is right?

    Missed out on Defoe.

    Sandgaard out 😄

That sounds right, thanks, helped by bringing in 2 young loanees. So no need to leave anyone out like what happened with Ben Dempsey in the first half of the season

Are there any half decent / half fit forwards on a free?
Pretty slim pickings , could Bradley Wright Phillips still do a job?

Sam Baldock only 32 as well and we’ve been linked with him many times before :)

That is already out of date as Defoe signed for Sunderland.
  • Bring Jay Bothroyd back for a second spell
  • I see Brendan Wiredu is still at Colchester.

Was hoping he would have pushed on by now, but struggled to start on his loan and in the U23.

  • Surprised Jon Nolan has just signed for Bristol Rovers. He was excellent for the Shrews when they beat us in the playoffs.

According to JJ he wouldn’t want to play Matthews and Purrington at the same time, as they’re both defensive players. So currently you’d swap CBT for Purrington?

Yes. Or other side for Matthews depending on which side you want to go more attacking but also Castillo is another option.

Can't see him featuring at all, unless we have injuries.

Think it depends who we're up against. Sky showed a graphic during the match yesterday of Portsmouth attacks and nearly half were on their left / our right so I can understand why he played Matthews if that's something that happens in their games a lot.

Isn't Romeo, their right wingback on loan from Millwall, a right back by trade.  I did notice they have been playing Recco at left wing back but Hume is more of a fullback?

We have Lavelle AND Matthews who can play there (Clare's role), these diagrams are such nonsense as they ignore that players can play more than one role. Clare himself is probably Dobson's second, although part of me wants to see Lee repurposed like his dad at Newcastle...

Lee has energy, is combative and has passing range. Who's to say he can't play DM if he retrains for it?

I think he needs to retrain for the role he is currently playing, he doesn’t seem very good at it.

Wait, so you couldn't wait to bin off Darren Pratley and now you're suggesting we should protect our defence with ..Elliot Lee

The White Darren Pratley..... not sure it's quite such a complimentary comparison as his current song,

Nobody would have thought Rob Lee could be a Prem-class DM when he was flying down the wing for us, but that's what he was for about 5 seasons at Newcastle

Well, obviously Dobson, he's our best player. But if he's got a knock...
