This target stuff looks great on paper/other industries but does it work in Football Management? Lets suppose for a second his target for next season is to go up. Next season plays out and we end up in a 3 way battle for promotion, and end up in 3rd place on the last day of the season. Are we suggesting that we don't know who the Manager will be for the following season until we find out the result of the play offs?1 -
Maccn05 said:Why is everyone assuming JJ has run to the press and not just answered a question? Even JJ can’t compete with Sandgaard god status polls.I said from the start Sandgaard didn’t want him and was forced into the appointment. He’ll sack him in the summer no doubt.
Everyone said TS KPI based contract was a business masterpiece (of course they did) but now we face more months of uncertainty.
Varney said they were talking to new players in March, who signs not knowing the manager? Why would Conor re-sign not knowing JJ’s in charge, remember Adkins bombed him out.
You also appoint somebody new and are then late to get his targets in and end up with fucking Soure & Arter again.
The good news is when you get your wish and JJ gets sacked for finishing 13th instead of 12th we can get a new man in, a bunch of new players in signed by another manager and whole fiasco can start again.
Let’s face it the appointments & Recruitment has been spot on so far hasn’t it.
Back the man, plan early and get some stability
Whilst I don't like the sound of the contract, Jackson signed it and now as he looks unlikely to achieve the goals set out he's speaking out in an unprofessional way to the media.
IF Sandgaard sacks him for not making 6th it's his bed... and when we fail to be promoted... AGAIN it will be indefensible.

People talking about needed experienced managers take a look at the L1 & L2 tables and the coaches in charge.
Those that are succeeding or over-performing are the new inexperienced new breed of modern coaches, coaching is changing right now and JJ is part of that and Adkins is evidence of that.
L1
- Rotherham- Paul Warne - 1st
- Wigan- Leam Richardson - 2nd
- MK - Liam Manning - 3rd
- Plymouth - Schumacher / Lowe - 8th
L2
- Forrest Green - Rob Edwards - 1st
- Sutton Utd - Matt Grey - 4th
- Exeter - Matt Taylor 6th
- Newport - - 7th
I don’t see Bruce, Warnock and the like at clubs or successful

No one knows what the target is, but IF it is to reach 6th this season (from 3rd bottom in later October) then that is the fault of TS who will have to deal with the fall out if Jacko does the job he is currently doing and promptly finds work at a club with more realistic aims/ambitions.0 -

He has shown he is capable of doing the job, whereas TS record so far in terms of staff recruitment on the football side is still unproven (Roddy/Adkins). Surely stability is now required, which is exactly what Jacko has brought us since last October.3 -

Are we all not judged on results?
Now, there may be a few hereditary peers on this site but I suspect TS has been playing in the real world (it's not all air guitar you know) along with all of us.
I hope Jacko knocks it out of the park but he knew his squad when he took the role. Niave he ain't. I also hope he's here next season.4 -
If results were based purely on Jackson's reign we'd be 4th. That's a much fairer way of reviewing how he's done6

If he’s forced into a conversation to make a point then no it’s not professional.
One problem with this contract is when do you make a call on May the whatever? That’s too late for a myriad of of reasons.
We can all say “well he signed the contract” but really what could he do? He’s desperate to manage and to manage us. He’s got a nut ball of owner who will only offer him a KPI’d contract - he either walks or takes a punt. For sure TS won’t get away with this format if he went for a Wilder or Howe as some nutters on here as suggested.5 -

The second phase since he became permanent has been shite let's be honest. We've fluked a few wins unconvincingly but mainly it's been dross. He's got plenty, plenty of games until the end of the season to prove he can make the team perform to even 80% of the first phase and he'd be fine.
The truth is, he's doubting his own ability to get the best out of the team now.4 -
Is is it JJ’s ability or these players?
As 3 managers have now failed to get this bunch of wannabes to perform consistently6 -
Athletico Charlton said:SELR_addicks said:LargeAddick said:we are going to be in League One next season so whether we finish 8th or 13th who cares? Just give Jackson the clarity he needs now and let him rebuild for next season. I'm not convinced he is the answer long term but am willing to give him a bash next season but to do so he needs to build a squad of his players. If he then ultimately fails he can't blame recruitment. He needs clarity now because we should already be talking to players agents now.
Jackson is getting fidgety because he's worried he's not really performing as well as he expected.
Going to the press to whine about an extension, after already going to the press to whine during his interim period doesn't really seem the most professional thing in the world.
As for Jackson (1.74 points a game average, 4th in form table since taking over) getting fidgety because he is not performing as well as expected. Really?
Honestly, we were 2nd bottom, playing dross, more than a win away from safety when he took over. We are not safe with top 4 form. There has been poor games, particularly when the backbone of our team (Stockley, Innis, Lavelle) have been injured but that is hardly surprising.
Those critisising Jackson need to get a sense of realism.
I have no idea of he will be a success long term but the time he has stuck with us, his patience and clear desire to succeed plus his record to date means he gets my 100% support and it would be mental to get rid of him.
If Jackson doesn't meet those expectations then it's down to Sandgaard himself whether he wants to offer an extension or not. If Jackson finishes bottom half but has a clear style of play, a decent run and looks like he's turning the corner of course TS would give him a new contract.
If he's struggling to find consistent form and falls away at the end of the season, does he have the right plan to gain promotion the next year?
Seems fair enough really. So why is Jackson coming out in the press trying to put pressure on Sandgaard to offer him a new contract in February? Clearly he's not confident that he will be getting one.

I think it’s quite easy to blow up what might have just been a passing comment in a wider interview. He hasn’t “gone whining to the press”, he’s just stated a factor that is part of the complex job he is dealing with. Doesn’t mean he is complaining about it or that he needs to “keep quiet” about it.
We, as fans, are the ones who want to amplify every little comment and turn it into a major debate at times. That’s our choice and habit as supporters. Doesn’t mean there is some conspiracy that Jackson is trying to negotiate things publicly.6 -

I think many of them have the ability, but not the gritty drive and determination needed.2 -

In the main most of these players were not performing for Bowyer, then performing for Adkins probably being kept on for the following season motivated them with the new manager. Then they couldn't be arsed and looked unfit etc, they would be here for the rest of the season, (f@ck the manager).
Then they perform to get JJ the job by running their bollocks off for a short period and probably thinking it saves their positions as again a new manger from outside will wield the axe.
Now they can have their rest again because they are only good enough when their working twice as hard, so they revert back to what they are. Average League 1 players.

“We all need to have a little bit of certainty if I’m going to be involved on decision-making on players in the longer term."
“My own future will need addressing before too long."
Doesn't really seem like a passing comment to me. Especially as there's zero other quotes coming out from Jackson today.
The line thrown in about his contract stipulations wasn't really public knowledge before today either was it?

He’s done a very good job so far. You can’t really say otherwise considering where he picked us up from and losing Stockley for so long. The fact he feels his future isn’t secure for next season, a month or so after signing a contract, suggests a real issue behind the scenes.3
-
It is quite simple.
For Jackson to still be manager in the summer all he needs to do is get the team to produce more performances like Ipswich, Plymouth and Portsmouth and less crap performances like we endured against Wycombe, Creme Alexandra and Hartlepool.
Achieve that and he will still have a job.3 -

Would us fans have doubts if we finish second half at the end of the season?
I certainly would. But no idea what I would do.1
