I’ll keep this simple.
First half.
Lots of injuries and forced changes.
We started brightly and went ahead.
We strike the crossbar.
Wigan frustrated and pressured the officials.
A stupid, soft foul resulted in a penalty.
Wigan equalised.
Grating goal music.
Second half.
We took some time to get going.
We never actually got going again.
Wigan sub comes on.
Wigan fashion a few opportunities that McGuiness fails to capitalise on.
We gift Wigan a corner through poor defending.
Wigan’s lump of a sub scores.
We don’t mount much resistance.
Kanu makes his senior debut.
Wigan 2 Charlton 1
Over to you.

Injuries unfortunate but typical. That’s all I have on the game.
I know I’m a string for repeating this every week but without a doubt the most depressing season following us IMO.
You watch this current lot I bet around April they’ll turn it on when the pressures off and win our last 5 or sumin and finish 10th and be all happy with themselves.

Getting to the stage where I hope Laurence Bassini succeeds tbh /s37

I would say Thank You to all those who contributed to the match thread but you lot writing it meant I had to read it and no one deserves that.8

Why when we're trying to find another striker to solve an injury issue, do we sign a striker with an injury/fitness issue?
Days like today were always going to happen.6 -
A left back at centre back.A midfielder at centre back.A right back at right wing back.A right winger at left wing back.A forward, or whatever Leko is, as striker.
That’s 50% of our outfield players playing out of position/not their preferred position. All to make sure we can play this sacred 352.
This 352, which uses players out of position for the centre back and wing backs, has given us 1 clean sheet out of the past 9 matches. We had 4 centre backs fit for today (5 including Elerewe), but we played 2 non CB’s for the 3 CB positions. We had more CB’s on the bench than on the pitch.
We could have easily played a 433 or 442 diamond, with players generally in their right positions.
Sorry, but its just stubbornness at this point. The loyalty to the 352 is baffling, we just don’t have the personnel for it. Too many individual errors and players not knowing their roles defensively. We need to stop leaking goals.
Our team sheet is just a mess whenever the lineup changes. Alan Turing couldn't work out whose meant to be playing where.43 -
Repeat of Tuesday... On the face of it (given the First Half) we probably didnt deserve to lose
Wigan got the two goals though, thats all that matters - Dont remember Macca having much else to do today
Unfortunately it was a repeat of the referee "correcting" his mistakes from Tuesday
One highlight today was seeing Daniel Kanu in what'll be a collectors item of Charlton appearances before he moves to Chelsea.
I know I come across at times on the Match Thread as a proper whingy bastard, especially towards the Referee
But I wouldn't have issue with yellow cards being dished out to our players, PROVIDED there was consistency with the opposition - Once again today, there were bookings given out to our players, whilst the opposition (supposedly "tough" Northern opponents), get to flop around and do whatever the hell they want.10 -
We’re capable of playing really well going forward, but always have a mistake or lapse in judgment at the back.
Whilst we’re capable of quality, we’re frustratingly inconsistent.
Poor teams can beat us.0 -
Started well scored a decent goal, then went to shit and never recovered.0

Can we end the season now?10

Missed out on the play offs last season on goal difference.
A little bit of fine tuning was required.
Two transfer window's later and we are ten times worse.
Expect the same this summer as Sandgaard does not have the right people advising him.
Pile off shite.15 -
Same shit different day.
The majority of this team need changing in the summer. The defence in particular, inc GK, is the worst I can remember.
Jacko is the right man at the wrong time. New blood needed.6 -
No blood-letting from me today. When I saw that line up I thought we were in for quite a pasting. But, in fact, we started very well, scoring a tremendous goal and almost doubling the lead. We were disappointing in the second half but with our three best strikers all injured it was hardly surprising we struggled to compete.
Sean Clare has been brilliant for us in an unfamiliar centre back role but he was poor last time out and struggled again today. Perhaps time to bring Sam Lavelle back in next week?13 -
If Bolton put the final nail in the coffin then Wigan were the ones to gently lay our season into the six foot hole.
Major squad overhaul needed. Recruitment has been piss poor the last 18 months and with the exception of one or two, I wouldn’t be upset if none of these players aren’t here next season. I reckon we have some of the worst footballing brains in the league. It’s just all rancid.None of these lot have what it takes to string a 46 game season together to get out of this league and we need a Wigan style summer. Done properly. Or it’s going to be another wasted season in 22/23.15 -
Yeah but those posting had to watch it... So quit your whingingAddicksAddict said:I would say Thank You to all those who contributed to the match thread but you lot writing it meant I had to read it and no one deserves that.

God please just hurry up and finish this steaming dog turd of a season.Actually sick and tired of what feels like 3/4 changes every game cos players pick up injuries. Too many weak, gutless pro’s on the downward trend of their career.I honestly think 90% of this squad don’t give a fuck about the result by 5pm (some of them could even be before that).Fuck Leko back off to Birmingham please, he’s utter dog shit and slows every single rare attack down cos he wants too many touches or his first one isn’t good enough. Even when he does manage to find a bit of space he panics. The only two again coming out with any positives is Dobson and Innis, and even one of those will probably end up doubtful for the next game.Wake me up when it’s over.11

A genuine question rather than a snarky comment: how does the comp work with JJs contract, if he was paid off before the season ends would he be owed what was due until the extension kicks in, or until the end of the contract?0
-
So despertely dull I kept drifting away from the action it was such a boring game. We are a very grey mediocre side. Just want to finish the season still in League 1. Don't want an exciting relegation battle.0
-
Stinker from Clare, Matthews poor when it mattered. Leko is a waste of time and Burstow doesn't offer enough. Don't rate MacGillivray like some do.7
-
Jackson not good enough subs to late again and 6 or 7 of that starting team are so bad football players we are a bad side1

I’ll tell you one thing it ain’t: the formation. These players wouldn’t be good enough in a 352, a 442, a 433 or whatever else you want to dream up.

Painful to say that I never expect us to not get bat even after going 1-0 up. Bench was non existent with those injuries.
Two tough away matches against two good sides and we’ve ended up with 0 points. Jacko and TS need to review these two matches as you need to win these types of games if you are serious about top two and promotion.
Sooner this season is over the better.0 -
It's frustrating, Charlton are not a bad side, I don't rate the goalkeeper but apart from that it's a strong squad. Jacko manages to steady the ship and we go on a run with teams starting to look at us getting back into the play off picture and not being the soft touch we were under Adkins, then like some cruel joke Jacko gets appointed and we haven't been able to put our first choice front pairing since, then today we lose all three forwards and our most costly signing, nobody's fault but our luck is poxed.7
-
Going to a slog for the final few months. Roll on next season0
-
Losing 3 strikers and our new midfielder is going to make things difficult, but, much to everyone's surprise, we took the lead and then hit the crossbar, so I was thinking perhaps we can win this one......and then we just run out of ideas, steam and footballing nounce!
Set piece defending is absolutely shit! The second half was just pathetic...League 1 again next season, oh deep fucking joy.....NOT!

Funny how this quote wasn't rolled out when it was Adkins as manager.Callumcafc said:I’ll tell you one thing it ain’t: the formation. These players wouldn’t be good enough in a 352, a 442, a 433 or whatever else you want to dream up.

14th. We are an embarrassment3

Just end it now. If we were a dog you'd put it down.3
