Not entirely clear what is happening to TV revenues - if they are frozen Chelsea will have problems paying their primadonnas, so they may have to rely on cheaper options like Mason and Juan. Of course, insolvency and a points deduction may be the way to go - but rules only allow registering of a new entity in the same league where all football creditors are honoured. This may be the most sensible way to go, unless some better deal can be arranged with our Oligarch friendly govt, but it would probably mean no Champions League football next year.

very tough situation to be honest. This isn’t an asset like a mansion or a sports car. It’s a community asset supported by hundreds of thousands of UK citizens and employees hundreds of people.Very hard to determine what is right and fair in this instance10

Would say it's a bit harsh on the club and their supporters, but the way they've acted and come out the woodwork since the dough come in, a bit like Citeh, has been questionable. Could they appeal and still be allowed to operate, with any proceeds destined for Abro's pockets being seized? Or suppose that's too complicated.....45 -

"To ensure the club can continue to compete and operate we are issuing a special licence that will allow fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket holders to attend matches while, crucially, depriving Abramovich of benefiting from his ownership of the club."
"I know this brings some uncertainty, but the Government will work with the league & clubs to keep football being played while ensuring sanctions hit those intended. Football clubs are cultural assets and the bedrock of our communities. We're committed to protecting them."
Shame its taken a bit of time to hit Abromavich but in a way good that they've done it now because it really effs up his attempt to sell the club when he must have thought he was going to get away with doing it.
And I'm sorry but questions need to be asked about why this didn't happen at least 10 days ago, re him and the other eight they have named today. For now, doubtless these questions will be submerged in the belated spirit of Western co-operation, but as with our wrong'uns, I will be among the many who will never forgive and never forget.
Agree with you Prague.
You must be so proud of the response of the Czech Republic people and that amazing display on the streets of Prague.
This have been a long time coming and I have made my views clear about my hatred of Chelsea football club and Abramovich since following his career when he was Governor of Chukotka as a young guy after befriending Boris Yeltsin and his family. He knew to survive and carry on printing money he had to jump ship and pay Putin and keep in with the strong men of the Kremlin after getting state power company for a steal.
The Chelsea players should just be paid a basic 1k a week to the end of the season when anyone out of contract can just be free.
The rest can go on the transfer list.
Chelsea are a successful football team because of the money purloined from the Russian people, before it was laundered with the lax rules in the UK.Maybe Charlton will one day play Chelsea again in League 1 or the Championship as we pass like ships in the night.6 -

But I’d like to think a few of us old timers wouldn’t 🙏🏻😞4 -
I would imagine this is easy enough for Chelsea to sidestep. Abramovich already said the proceeds of the sale would go to victims of the war. So something could be done I am sure where this happens and those victims are Ukranian ones. Why? Because the government won't let Chelsea be a casualty in this.
What may have an impact is the difference to Chelsea in the long to medium term in terms of the outlook of their new owner.0 - Sponsored links:

It's good to see the government doing the right thing.4

I still remember abramovich' ugly sad angry face when we beat Chelsea at Stamford bridge on penalties in the Carling cup
C*nt
Thanks for taking Parker off us. Was probably spouting russian bollocks to Putin and having a giggle.
(He obviously probably wasn't and I'm half joking....it's best he should fly home after the police hopefully track and trace him. Maybe search his private property if possible)2 -

Government have done it to be seen to be doing the right thing, but they'll let a sale go through in the summer i'm sure, as obviously the situation can't continue.2 -

And Charlton wondering where to fit Mount and Lukaku into our system next season.2 -
This is brilliant. Like waking up and finding out it's Christmas Day.
I don't really believe it'll stick. My gut feeling is the club will be allowed to weasel out of most of this stuff. And maybe their future will only be as bad as hitting mid-table of the PL. But it's a start. Sportswashing has taken a blow today, and while it's too late for me to start caring about the PL again, I hope it's a step that leads to major change.12 - Sponsored links:

No away fans i assume means at Stamford bridge, but can Chelsea fans buy tickets for their own away games?1

This should have happened 10+ days ago and means any sanctions imposed are a lot less valuable; because we've given the people time to move assets around away from our grasp.
Are Chelsea that affected? They were never a money making operation anyway.
I'm sure Roman won't be too bothered in a months time when everything is dropped and it now looks like he's been 'punished' so people will now stop calling for him to be sanctioned.

Tickets for the Middlesbrough away FA Cup match will not go on sale today as planned.
Further updates will follow in due course.
