  • What do we make of Ten Hag as the next Man Utd Manager.

Looks like its going to happen

Feel their problems go beyond the Manager - A bit like here at Charlton, but based on what he's achieved with Ajax, think he could be the sort of appointment they need.
he'll do well IF he is allowed to make a clean sweep of the dead wood players (perhaps a bonfire more than a clean sweep) .. thing is, for  a club like Man U, to rebuild the team will cost LOTS as it seems that the pool of talent from the youth system is not as deep as it once was .. there have been some silly signings/re-signings .. Jones, Martial, too many old geezers like Ronaldo and Cavani, 'name players' proved to be a waste of money like Varane, van de Beek

Whoever goes there it will take a couple of years minimum to sort out the mess, though of course 'mess' with a club like Man U is a relative term.

Also, the new man would be well advised to insist that the increasingly senile one time genius Fergie, is kept well away from the players and the dressing room
  • At least he appears to be a manager who puts a lot of effort into coaching himself rather than delegating.

They badly need that, whoever is taking first team training etc under the last couple of managers is failing badly.
  • Dyche sacked by Burnley.

    That's a shocker.

Seen Allardyce mentioned as a potential replacement, which would be absolutely laughable.

ten Hag will fail there for the same reason previous Ajax managers fail in the PL. They come from a one or two team league that out-spends their rivals 5-1 and thus are never really tested much. Also they play one style and the PL does not play that way, as teams are more practical and thus struggle to adjust. Ajax has a great Academy while most PL clubs just buy the players they want. Ten Hag would be great if the goal is to change the culture at ManU from top to bottom and he has a 3-4 years runway. But it never is that way, especially there.
Let's see how previous Ajax managers did once they left Ajax for the PL....
Frank de Boer... lasted  6 matches at Palace before sacked, LOL.
Ronald Koeman.... lasted a bit more than one season at Everton before sacked
Louis Van Gaal... made it almost three seasons at ManU and had a 52% winning percentage and one FA cup.
I give him somewhere between 30-70 matches before he fails.
  • Phil Brown .. the first win for Barrow  under his management , they gave leaders FGR a serious mauling yesterday

An interesting result, but the FGR boys seem to have been on the beach for a couple of weeks now.

They're stuttering to promotion having looked imperious for most of the season. Indeed Matt Taylor's Exeter could pip them for the title

De boer i'll give you but Koeman was at Ajax about a decade before he came to the premier league. And he got the Everton job after 2 top 7 finishes with Southampton.

Van Gaal is a brilliant manager, after Ajax he won league titles in 3 countries before arriving at Man U, including winning the Dutch league with unfancied AZ.
  • Jody Brown has been sacked by Billericay.

That'll give Welling a bit more hope in terms of survival - I know that Billericay arent owned by that nut job anymore, but still a surprise, less than a week after winning some silverware

I think given the remaining games, Welling need a miracle. Billericay play 2 of the bottom 4 so will surely pick up more points than Welling.
  • Does only one team go down?
  • Does only one team go down?
Yes as they want to get the league back up to 24 teams.

  • Manchester United have appointed Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as their next manager.

The Dutchman, 52, will take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of this season on a three-year deal which can be extended by a year.

Rangnick, who replaced the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, is set to move into a consultancy role.

  • Think he could do very well given time, and backing to restructure the team etc.

Probably won't be though as they're a mess....

Will he last the 3 years of the contract? I doubt it...

Same, it's got "lost the dressing room" written all over it when they sulk at him dropping crap players and trying to make other ones work hard.

    Didn't see that coming.

I think he'll do quite well, as players will now know they can't get away with downing tools and it's his way or they're out of the door. Characters like Pogba, Martial etc will be gone, along with as much dead wood as they can shift.

He's going to be given (according to reports) as much as 200m to spend + what he makes from sales, so he'll clearly bring in players who suit his way of playing. Wouldn't be surprised to see 2-3 Ajax players follow him.

Imagine 2 seasons would get them back in the top 4. Would probably have to spend £800m to compete with the top 2. City are going to get Haaland who can United get is anywhere near that quality?
  • I guess he will want to keep Van Der Beek now, since he was his star at Ajax.

They need to go back to getting younger players who will get better.

Again Liverpool are a good example, Mane, Firmino and Salah weren't cheap but they weren't megastar record singings either, cost only a bit more for all 3 than United spent on Pogba.

That's the type of signing needed, whether they have the scouts for it, who knows?

From what I've seen he's one of their better players. The likes of Pogba & Martial could leave & nobody would notice.

    Is Simon Church still playing?

If they want to get back to anywhere near where they were, they need to keep him and get a bit of stability. They have made a complete hash of the managerial appointments since Ferguson
