Don't think Stockley suits 1 or 3 upfront either as he's no good at holding the ball up with his back to goalCafc43v3r said:I wonder if we haven't offered Washington a contract because we are looking to go back to 433/4231?
So the priority would be the one to compete with Stockley and use Chuks as an impact sub as a like for like, a second striker or even as a "10" off the bench?
That would bring someone like Stockton back into the conversation and take someone like May out of it.
I really like Washington but he is a bit of a square peg in a 3. Can do a job but.....1 -
No I don't either but the "club" do.East Kent Addick said:

Yeah Sykes would be a coup, both under contract though so would command fees. I’ve really rated Nottingham every time we have played him, especially if we are playing 3 at the back he’s perfect for the central role imo. I imagine both you could get with the right amount, Accrington are a club that can’t refuse reasonable transfer feesCallumcafc said:
Ross Sykes would be a statement of intent but fully expecting him to be in the Championship next year. Not convinced by Nottingham personally, always felt he's liable with the ball at his feet.Braziliance said:The two centre backs I really like are Ross Sykes and Michael Nottingham of Accrington, I genuinely think Nottingham is the best centre back in the league but just getting on a bit. We certainly need two first choice centre backs for next season based on what we have0 -
Nottingham is 33, so can’t really see is going after him.Braziliance said:

As a club we have bought players before we had no Manager in a close season
06/07 Cory Gibbs
16/17 Holmes, Ajose, Novak
Both seasons were disasters.2 -
Not disputing that. What cannot be argued with is the seasons were a mess and that season in particular the Manager did not like the lack of control he had over recruitment.Dazzler21 said:

As long as it was a 2 year deal I’d have no issue. Just do what it takes to get us out of the league and he is certainly good enough and reliable enough in terms of playing enough games.ricky_otto said:

The season before we signed them Ajose got 25 goals and Novak got 15.
Both turned out to be shit but you can see why we signed them.14 -

The dates on Wikipedia are wrong but they all signed after Slade came in other than Yamfam, but he was an u21 signing.Cafc43v3r said:

Russell Slade got the job on 6th June 2016 - So the three mentioned players were signed after he joined.Cafc43v3r said:

To be honest not sure why Wiki says 1st July (maybe to coincide with it being the new season)
If you click on the ref on the far right column there are links to when the announcements were made so the actual dates we signed them were:
Ajose - 27th June 2016
Ricky Holmes: 16th June 2016
Lee Novak: 17th June 2016
Yamfam (only ever a Youth player): Signed in May

1st July is just when players officially join because its the start of the transfer window. Wiki will say 1st July even if you sign a player in the FebruaryForeverAddickted said:

There's part of me that thinks we could do worse than let this forum head up the recruitment process, or at least contribute to it :-) or ;-)
We could certainly do with a player like Ricky Holmes in midfield. He arguably gets overlooked when talking about very good ex Charlton players, perhaps because of the way he left us? Creative, quite quick, direct, with a great shot, plenty of goals, good on free kicks and corners.
I wonder when the first transfer incoming announcement will be made? If they've genuinely been working on it behind the scenes for weeks you'd hope it would be quite soon. I'm guessing Friday 20th May? I always enjoy a transfer window.0 -
More intresting would be what comes in what order, contract renewals, new manager, first signing.JamesSeed said:There's part of me that thinks we could do worse than let this forum head up the recruitment process, or at least contribute to it :-) or ;-)

Not even a 2 year deal, he'd be 35 by the end of that contract and another Ben Watson on the books. Especially with how older players seem to have declined while with us the last few seasons.Braziliance said:
