I wonder if any of those contract "triggers" are to get a fee, no matter how small?

A shocking decision if we didn't offer a contract at all imo.  Even if plan A is 433 he can do a job wide and gives you a plan B.

Some other club is going to get a right little tickle there.

I don't think we could keep Stockley, Aneke, Washington and sign at least one other first team striker capable of starting and scoring goals.

Unfortunately Conor is a victim of the entirely ridiculous decision to bring back Aneke in January.

I would've kept him on but I don't think it fits.

One assumes the new manager has sanctioned all this? Announce Martin immediately! “ I’ve been completely blown away etc. etc.”

If we could keep this thread Conor Washington related, and the retained list thread for all the other players please

I'm so much happier to see Charlton show faith in flawed, monstrous masters like Inniss than hard-working ineffectual drones like Washington. We want to be dominant, we want players who dominate and create decisive moments

Surprised but agree that we need to be stronger up front and in my view that means Conor being third or even fourth choice. I doubt he’s willing to accept that. Always worked his nuts off unlike most of all the others. Good luck Conor. I can see him back in Scotland.

In my opinion it's one of 3 scenarios with Connor,
    1. He didn't want to stay amid the sacking of Jacko and uncertainty over who would be coming in.
    2. He wanted more money than we were prepared to pay him.
    3. TS was pissed after he allegedly started rumours of replacing Jacko and decided he didn't want him in the squad
    4. Charlton decided they would try for someone who could stick the ball in the net more often.

I’m absolutely certain his replacement will show more effort and score more goals.
Only a fool would think otherwise right?

Well that’s a shame, I was a massive fan of Conor, and on the whole felt we tended to play better as a team with him in it.

His ability to run into spaces, stretch defences, and control a difficult ball whilst under pressure was second to none at this level.

However that being said, with no idea what’s going on with the contract negotiations, something has to give after the last couple of seasons.

So will wait to see who we get in, and how we look to set up before being to distraught by this.

All this talk of 'effort' I find misleading. You won't find many professional footballers who don't try, who don't run and run. Yes, Washington put in a shift - his replacement will too, and perhaps more subtly too. There's such a thing as timing a run

Be interesting to see who we get in going forward. Always gave it his all and scored important goals.

    Good to luck to him.

Is that a joke?  Not one that any cafc fans will enjoy
It's been quoted elsewhere from somebody self-identifying as a journalist.

Marquis is a joke of a player at whom we've been laughing for years
My pompey supporting mate thinks he's a donkey, a slow thick donkey who shoulda retired from the beach years ago

Washington was always a tricky one, he was probably worth a new contract based on last season, I'd have liked to have seen him given a new deal but on the other hand he wouldn't have gotten into either of Powell or Bowyer's promotion teams and maybe he didn't want to potentially sit on the bench next season which would have been his place if we're serious about getting promoted next season.

Means that once again we'll be looking for a marquee signing up front. To let Washington leave we need a proven upgrade at this level, not a Josh Parker or unproven Premier League youngster.

You can have players who hide (Gilbey) while also running around for 90 minutes. Hiding from the play is not the same as not putting in effort

Screams of a change of formation and no longer playing 2 up top    myopic idiocy by the "recruitment" team

Really don't understand this decision. We knew we would have to bring in another mobile forward over the summer in addition to the one we had in Washington. Of the three strikers on the books he was the most mobile, now we are left with two strong forwards who can't play together and you wouldn't want them up front on their own. So we now have to bring in 2 more strikers?

Meh, my natural reaction is that this isn't good.

I'm fine with this IF we bring in another pacey, intelligent striker that makes similar runs, can play all season and scores 15+ goals. He was the only striker last season that stretched defences and gave opposing defenders something to think about. His finishing was poor, but that's why he's a L1 player.

Add a decent L1+ second striker to the shopping list, alongside the new gaffer and other squad players. Hope TS' wallet is ready.

Good move if we're serious about strengthening and promotion. If Marquis is the replacement it's a terrible decision.

Bad decision that will come back to bite us. His absence is always notable. We have been a much worse team without him.

Now looking for two strikers in the Conor mold. Don’t think we’ll find them at a reasonable price.

The love-in for Washington is strange.

A better Simon Church but we could do a lot lot better.

People just looking for something to get upset about now. Not one person wants him to be in our first 11 next season and I'm sure someone was saying he was looking for a pay rise.
I think he's a good backup yes, but this is obviously a sign that we'll bring in another first 11 striker, and I'm happy to put faith in Kanu as a backup.

Plus, it was a snidey move for Washington to spread the rumor that TS was going to fire Jackson. There's no positive influence from doing that.

Fuck whoever's making the decisions. Look at the stats, he improved us no end every game he played, scoring or not.

Good luck to the black box finding someone better that's actually willing to come to this dumpster fire of a club
