Summer 2022 transfer rumours (Gilbey loan confirmed p513, a signing falls through last minute p541)

Biggest issue with Morgan last season was the fact he suddenly ended with the most assists than anyone else - Said it at the time, and I'll say it again... that spoke volumes for the rest of our Midfield compared to him.
Hopefully the likes of Fraser and McGrandles can step up and produce better figures in that regard, as being top assist created with seven is still nothing to shout out about - If no one can though, it would be as ludicrous to get rid of Albie over Alex, as it would to get rid of Stockley and keep Davison as our first choice Striker, because the latter runs better for example.1 -

To get the best out of Albie you need to put him in tandem with a midfielder who does most of his defensive work for him.Chunes said:

Agree, but he’s 22. I’d have him nowhere near the XI currently, but 22 year olds have much room for improvement.Chunes said:We've said the same about Morgan every time we've got a new manager
More worrying is that Albie has made seemingly zero progress in recent years. Every manager has seen fit not to make him a consistent starter, he's the only constant there.
Don't know why he's not given a season out on loan, although I know we tried before and there were no takers in league football.

I, and many others were convinced until 1 minute to 11 on deadline day we would have done that last season and up popped papa smurf a few weeks later.ShootersHillGuru said:
Agree with this although I’m thinking that our LWB will inevitably be a young PL loan. We’ll use the loan system like all other lower league teams and hopefully better than last season.Cafc43v3r said:
I think the signings we have made so far have been evolution, add a couple of left backs, a left sided center back and a foward and you probably replaced everyone worth replacing who left. And reached the squad cap.ShootersHillGuru said:I’ll be disappointed if Payne chooses Portsmouth or another league one club over us, that’s if we are seriously interested. He would be a key component of what Garner wants and would have the advantage of on arrival knowing exactly what’s expected of him and already have several ex teammates in the squad. Almost guaranteed play time with a manager that really knows him and wants him in the team. We haven’t splashed any cash yet and a goal scoring midfielder is essential and hard to find. I’d be surprised if we can come up with someone that fits our requirements more than Payne or any cheaper.
I think already we will look more pleasing on the eye but unless 3 of those players are really top draw we won't be right up there.
To me this summer will be made, or broken, on how much apitite there is for revolution or do they give it another 12 months to build the squad they want?
I would try and do it this summer, with a bit of fine tuning in January, but it's not my money and I didn't sign some of the players that would have to go.2 -

Albie hasn't improved in nearing 4 seasons of men's football. Maybe his fitness has but not his overall contribution. He might this season, he probably won't. To expect it to is blind faith.Chunes said:5 -

A bloke I used to work with is coupled up with the aunt of Johnny Williams.
He has text me out the blue this morning to say a return could be on the cards, this bloke has no interest in football and mentioned Johnny could be joining a couple of weeks before he joined the first time so have no reason to disbelieve him.
He said Johnny wants to come back as he really likes Garner but the fact he's under contract is making it more difficult, I asked if there had actually been talks and his reply was "agent is on the case".9 -
Didnt Jonny only sign a one year deal with Swindon?Belv said:A bloke I used to work with is coupled up with the aunt of Johnny Williams.

Contract length wasn't revealed at the time, but he was involved with the photoshoot for the new kit so assume he has at least another yearForeverAddickted said:

Not sure. The BBC report when he signed says "The League Two club have not disclosed details of Williams' contract." Doesn't mention length of contract on their official site either.ForeverAddickted said:

Said it before that I wouldn’t be distraught if JW returned. He was completely unsuited to the football Bowyer and Jackson required and in a team on the front foot with quick passing football he could still be a very effective player. Perhaps not a regular starter but certainly I’d rather Williams as an option than another PL kid with no chance of starting.11

Several Clubs want Payne in the window, but we can I'll afford another player made of glass. Has Cawley confirmed Payne to Crawley? 🤔Dave Rudd said:

A JW that doesn’t trip over a blade of grass I would always give a chance. Last time he ended up frustrating me because he is very good when he stays on his feet.ShootersHillGuru said:Said it before that I wouldn’t be distraught if JW returned. Williams is a great player to have coming from the bench.
People staring at the goals stat didn't realise how effective he was sometimes during our League One play-off run. Guaranteed free-kicks in their half and decent playmaking skills too.14 -

The concern is with a squad cap is it sensible to sign Williams when we already have two players who usually can’t play 90 minutes (never mind twice a week) in Inniss and Aneke? He’s not the only option out there.SELR_addicks said:Williams is a great player to have coming from the bench.

If you go down the premiership youngsters, not championship fringe route with your loans that's less of an issue.Scoham said:

There are conditions that I would actively want Johnny back but I don't think they exist at the moment.1 -

If he goes to Crawley, what is all this crap about Championship clubs wanting him? I would respectfully suggest they don't.Dave Rudd said:
