That's very classy from de Zerbi.Addick Addict said:John Wainwright is someone I played cricket with for a good few years at Sidcup. On Facebook he has posted and asked to share a positive experience (in addition to the win of course) from last night's game:
I just wanted to tell everyone about the penalty shootout between Charlton Athletic and Brighton last night.
I have a handicapped grandson I take in his wheelchair to matches and as the shootout was about to begin we couldn't see a thing where we were because of everybody milling about the dugout areas. I pushed my grandson towards the Brighton dugout/technical area in the hope of a better view. Despite the importance of the moment for the Brighton Manager Roberto de Zerbi he could see that we were Charlton supporters with our red and white hats and scarves and he made sure we joined his management staff in front of the hoardings so that my grandson could see the shootout. Mr Zerbi even crouched down so that my grandson could see the players approaching from the halfway line to take their turn for each penalty.
Brighton fans you have an 'Absolute Gent' in charge of the playing side of the club! I thanked him profusely at the time for his kindness and want to post this to thank him again so THANKS from Grandad Wainwright and Albie Sargent. It is so nice to report on an event so positively when not all football stories read like this one. Please share this as much as you like and hopefully it will make it to Brighton eventually! Happy Christmas everyone9 -
Yep. There's no accounting for c*nts these days. People trying to look cool but making themselves look anything but. But crack on i say....makes me laugh every time. Ray Stewart would be such a killjoy now....killerandflash said:What is it with stuttery runs before taking a penalty? During the World Cup many players missed doing that, and last night was the same. Just run up and give it a whack!0 -
I've been very critical of Stockley this season he's not been good enough at any point really. I'd be looking to replace in Jan.
But, to criticise him for not pressing when clearly (and Hayes said as much in his interview) the game plan was to stay compact, let them have the ball in certain areas, keep our shape and defend our 3rd of the pitch. I.e. not press.
If you press with that game plan when you're defending fairly deep all it does is give space for teams with the quality of Brighton to exploit. You can't criticise a man for following the game plan.
I actually think despite not moving as freely as he has in previous seasons stocky was exactly what we needed for that last 20 mins or so arial ability to help us win the ball up the pitch (he even won us a couple free kicks) and aerial ability in our own box.14 -
How are you even pronouncing this? So glad you edited this post, must have been a nightmare originally? 😁cantersaddick said:I've been very critical of Syocley this season he's not been good enough at any point really. I'd be looking to replace in Jan.

What a great story. Albie is a great kid and a very vocal supporter.Addick Addict said:John Wainwright is someone I played cricket with for a good few years at Sidcup. On Facebook he has posted and asked to share a positive experience (in addition to the win of course) from last night's game:

He's not good enough but he did about the best he is capable of. He probably wasn't even expecting to come on.1 -
I hear you but I don't think he would have come on if Aneke hadn't been injured five mins after coming on.cantersaddick said:I've been very critical of Stockley this season he's not been good enough at any point really. I'd be looking to replace in Jan.

Hats off to you , Sir3 -
A small part of me is pissed off with this performance, as it does make me question why the can't seem to put even 50% of this effort into a league match and despite all the positives to come from this, the squad still needs a complete rebuild in the summer2
-
I agree so far as the effort is concerned and the re-build. Let's face it, we got lucky against Brighton. In fact, we've had a bit of a charmed life in getting where we have to in the EFL - three wins on penalty shoot outs including against Stevenage and beating another League 2 side, Walsall, by a single goal. In fact, we've only scored three goals in the whole competition.tangoflash said:A small part of me is pissed off with this performance, as it does make me question why the can't seem to put even 50% of this effort into a league match and despite all the positives to come from this, the squad still needs a complete rebuild in the summer0 -
Poor against Walsall and Stevenage too, but we're in the QF which means our name is on the cupAddick Addict said:

I don't disagree but I think it actually lends a lot of credence to the stories of low morale and bad management of the club (not Hayes, at the executive level).tangoflash said:A small part of me is pissed off with this performance, as it does make me question why the can't seem to put even 50% of this effort into a league match and despite all the positives to come from this, the squad still needs a complete rebuild in the summer
I don't know anyone "ITK" but enough stories from people who do have come out that I fully believe that the whole club is (was?) rotten and the players will know it. As much as we say they should be professional etc and it shouldn't affect them, it absolutely will.
It may be coincidence that we get a performance of effort and enthusiasm just when there looks like being a change behind the scenes, but I doubt its COMPLETELY unrelated.1 -
Well deserved for the pair of them too…well done 👏👏ForeverAddickted said:3 -
Has the not manager even been manager of the round?ForeverAddickted said:1 -
From the marks thread: “Referee: 7 thought he did ok but Brighton should have had a penalty for a clumsy challenge from Lavelle”.
Anyone else see this clumsy challenge?2 -
Yes ball got played inside from the left and lavelle and another defender sandwiched the Brighton player. Couldn’t really see at the time but watching highlights it was very clumsy.AddicksAddict said:From the marks thread: “Referee: 7 thought he did ok but Brighton should have had a penalty for a clumsy challenge from Lavelle”.

Surprised Dunk was in the team of the round. Of course he played well, and scored his penalty, but keeping a clean sheet against a 3rd tier team concentrating on keeping it tight is hardly a major achievement!ForeverAddickted said:5 -
Ashley Maynard-Brewer is up for player of the round if you cast your vote...

"Clumsy" maybe, but to say "Should have had a pen", may be a bit strong, they may have been given a pen, but judging from the shoot out, Ashley would have saved it anyway...🤷♂️ValleyGary said:

Look, we won, talk of playing up Brighton's reliance on a dodgy penalty not being given is not needed, let's just relish the result and look forward to Old Trafford..👍4 -
Tommy will be thinking the same and using it to prove the quality/ cost of the squad he has assembled - but he also assembled the managers so that won’t stack uptangoflash said:A small part of me is pissed off with this performance, as it does make me question why the can't seem to put even 50% of this effort into a league match and despite all the positives to come from this, the squad still needs a complete rebuild in the summer0 -
Worth remembering that it’s the first time this season that we’ve set up purely to stop a team. I think?tangoflash said:A small part of me is pissed off with this performance, as it does make me question why the can't seem to put even 50% of this effort into a league match and despite all the positives to come from this, the squad still needs a complete rebuild in the summer
Zero pressing of their back four, and keeping a good shape behind the ball. I don’t actually think it was so much about effort as about tactics.2 -
Anybody know of any organised travel from the West Country to Old Trafford?0
-
Yes a definite plan which worked very well. Which also involved us kicking long much more than normal and allowing Brighton a lot of the ball.JamesSeed said:

The players put in a massive shift, a number of them were out of legs by 80 minutes.0 -
I was just answering the man’s question mate. We thoroughly deserved to win just for our work rate alone.eastterrace6168 said:
