If I lived in the UK still, Alfie would have had my vote. Because I actually know what he's achieved and have followed his career.

I don’t even think snooker or darts are sports but if one of those types won SPOTY I wouldn’t bother myself by commenting on a forum that I’d never heard of them because it’s a little bit demeaning to those who do like those types of things.
There have been a lot of famous paraolympians, Tania Grey-Thompson was and still is an icon of sport, recently David Weir and Ellie Simmonds (among others) have become equally widely known. Nobody is know everything about every sport or competitor. For my sins I genuinely only like football and cricket, I don't enjoy watching women's football but do watch the England ladies cricket team. Does that make me a fragile man, maybe but we enjoy what we enjoy. Plenty of people like other stuff, which is fine by me.

I do think SPOTY is taken a bit too seriously and should be treated for what it really is, a look back on the years highlights, a chance to remember the ones that have past away and a bit of recognition for some outstanding people. Entertainment. There is no real vote, its text and online. On the weeks leading up and on the night heavily influenced by the BBC.
CL is so predictable on the subject of women playing football, and the usual suspects get their digs in on Women playing a man's game like football and earning money at it as well 😂
Last year Beth Mead won and for the elderly who have forgotten ( it was the lead story on the news!), she was the Golden boot winner and part of the winning England team 😀
Mary Earp's was part of a losing team in a final (good achievement without several players including Mead and Captain Williamson) But it's a public vote and Mary gained a lot of support after the keeper's shirt fiasco before the U-turn.
I only watched the last 5 minutes as I was watching live Cricket and award shows on sport or show business are tiresome and go on too long.

The issue I have is with the media coverage that is forcing the opinion that we ALL love it. The WSL scores are put ahead of the EFL on their websites and sports pages. The BBC will focus on their games and ignore the Championship. MASSIVE BREAKING NEWS some girl iv never heard of has signed for Arsenal ladies. It’s not massive it’s of interest to a very small minority.

I wanted Frankie Detori to win it. I don’t watch horse racing, never been horse racing but I know he’s very, very good at being a jockey, has won loads and loads of races and has never won SPOTY.
I think the reason this has a lot of posts is because for most of us growing up, it was quite a big event, the family sat together, watching the review of the year , with a few funnies or silly challenges thrown in.
It seems to have changed over last decade, whether that is due to less sport on BBC or perceived box ticking in the nominations ( remember the uproar when there was an all male list 5 years ago or so?).
I posted earlier in the thread why I thought it was a poor selection and none of it was because some of the nominees were women or disabled.
It is fine to think what has Earps done to win it over KJT and also fine to think what the hell is Dettori doing on The list as well or why others didn’t make the cut.
But the mindset of “doesn’t like the winner , must be sexist” , is not fine.
