    Scotland's NRR is 2.164.

    If England chase this target in:

    - exactly 8 overs, their NRR will be ~1.400
    - exactly 7 overs, their NRR will be ~1.700 
    - exactly 6 overs, their NRR will be ~2.000
    - exactly 5 overs, their NRR will be ~2.300

    A bit farcical when qualification depends on smashing the minnows to get the best NRR, and rain can remove the chance to do that.

    Of course we need Australia to beat Scotland which will mean their final NRR will be lower if it happens.

    Barmy Army says 5.2 overs to get above Scotland’s NRR.

    You have to add the runs from all the innings faced or bowled together so Australia & Oman together scored 248 from 40 overs against us (RR 6.200). Oman’s innings count for 20 overs since we bowled them out.

    We have to be above Scotland’s 2.164 in net. Meaning our run rate from overs faced has to be 8.364 or higher.

    We managed 8.250 against Australia so we have to be almost 9.0 runs per over in this chase to bump that figure up above 8.364.

    Agreed but best to assume the Aussies will do it in the most annoying way possible. Scotland will probably lose 0.001 in run rate from them!

    You woud expect us to be able to do it comfortably in 5 at most.

    I’m assuming he hasn’t accounted for Oman’s innings counting for a full 20 overs.

    I couldn’t work out what on earth he’d done for the maths there, sounded like he didn’t believe it either
