Fitting Fodden and Bellingham in is a problem. Bellingham was good vs Serbia and Fodden was shite. Fodden was more involved today and Bellingham, went missing instead. maybe it's either/or and not both.

70% of Rice’s game is driving up the pitch with the ball and/or pressing high. His game is not sitting in front of the defence 24/7.

By putting Bellingham next to Rice you restrict Rice’s best qualities and you restrict Bellingham’s opportunities to get into the box and score like against Serbia as well.
But Ferdinand said so, a man who put club before country with the best England side in recent years, a bloke who has never done any actual coaching... So we have to listen to him!!

Did Kane basically just say they don't know what they're supposed to be doing in certain situations?

Awful. Southgate was hired as a yes man and he still hasn’t beaten a decent team in his time as manager. We’re once again just wasting extremely talented players.

The problem is Southgate’s style of football, like him backwards and boring.

That hatchet job on Kane by Lineker just now was too well structured and lucid not to have been prepared before the tournament started. BBC were just waiting to see when/if it could be deployed. I disagree with him. He is a proven world class goal scorer. He has to start. Just tell him not to keep dropping back . And don't expect him to be the primary presser when the opposition are playing out.

I'd sooner listen to him, an ex-professional footballer, than you.

Kane looked like an AI video with the title 'show me a world class striker playing on velcro'. Bellingham I can't comment on as he seemed to have vanished after the goal, Rice.... ah fuck. I can't be bothered to list this crap.
We looked as if we had taken the Iceland performance as our way to win the Euros. Truely awful display. I doubt any of the other big sides in this tournament will look at us and think 'we need to avoid them if we want to progress'.
As was said above, Southgate needs to finally accept the evidence of his eyes and change things up fundamentally.

Really poor. Other teams will look at England now and think we're very beatable. Ridiculous position to be in for the supposed favourites.

10 goals in total of which just 6 were scored by England players in open play in the last 8 games against Malta, N. Macedonia, Brazil, Belgium, Bosnia, Iceland, Serbia and Denmark. That is a really poor return given the players at our disposal. Something isn't right. The good news is that this game might make Southgate change tactics to get us on the front foot rather than waiting for things to happen.

But he has shown over the years he is incapable of changing. Yes Will get out of the group, yes we will make the semi finals or even finals and most people will be quoting the fact that Southgate gets us to later stages of tournaments. Ignoring the fact that the players we have at his disposal should be winning tournaments. He is a nice guy no doubts but he is a loser end of

We’ve somehow made the player predicted by many in Europe to win the ballon d’or look like a poor man’s Jason Euell in that game.

    Winning tournaments? Plural?

You realise only one country can win every two years? We should be capable of getting one yes, and we very nearly did.

Only Spain 2008-12 have been good enough to win with the regularity you’re asking for.

Arguably the biggest talent pool England football has ever seen and thats what we get. Ffs, IF we get anything out of this, it won't be because of Southgate.

Still back and fully support em, but that was embarrassing....

Reminds me of 2006, we stunk up the tournament then despite having a good team on paper, snuck through, then lost to the first big nation we played.

Expect a QF loss to Italy and Kane to be sent off for stamping on Bastoni's knackers.

Typical England.  Significant amount of skill - no heart.  It has been like this going back to the Lampard/Gerard days.  Underperform at most major tournaments going back years.

Found it interesting that Southgate decided to sub; Kane - Saka - Foden, imagine he's still looking at the Tournament bigger picture, than just these three Group Games.

Its equally frustrating we didnt win and so secure Qualification - But we've never won our first two Euro Group Games, let alone all three, just annoying how we've put ourselves under a slight amount of pressure to get a result against Slovenia

But worst case scenario and we lose (along with a Denmark win), we're still going through in P3, just with a VERY difficult match in the RO16, but lets see what happens on Tuesday first.

Of course it would make everyone feel better if we waltzed these Group Games winning 3-0 / 4-0, but lets get back to reality... Would much rather limp towards the KO Rounds, rather than sprint - Its been a long season for all players at the Tournament, lets not waste energy beyond what's needed in these matches, just because of nothing more than pathetic pride.

Maybe Southgate’s tactic is to rope a dope the opposition. There aren’t any other tactics to be seen. If he can’t get this group of players playing on the front foot he isn’t a coach.

Luke Shaw is arguably the most important player we have. We're stuck in a situation where we cannot attack down the flanks. Every team is just packing the middle of the park and then dominates us in wide positions.

One of the only times we got down the wing, we scored. We needed a left footed player at LB.

    It’s just frustrating isn’t it.
So many quality players in one team.
    Yet they serve that up.
I really feel for all those who have spent a fortune getting there.
It can’t just be on Southgate? Surely you’re playing for your own pride? Take control, get a grip, own it?
Yeah we’re top of the group blah blah blah…..
    But it’s been pony.

Unless we go 352 and play Saka at left wing back, that's not happening!

I think we're a bit unlucky in almost all our left footed left backs are injured (bar maybe Mitchell who I said originally I was surprised he didn't go given Shaw wasn't fully fit), but I think we should at least be playing Gomez there who has played there a lot this season, rather than hoping Trippier will do.
